Ajax is a club renowned for its style of play and producing some great players. Tottenham is fully aware of this and that is why they were monitoring Nicolas Tagliafico just last summer (The Sun).
The left-back has been highly coveted ever since the Dutch sides remarkable run to the Champions League semi-finals last season and according to his own coach, he is very likely to be sold this summer.
Erik ten Hag has been speaking to Dutch media outlet Het Parool and this is what he specifically had to say about Tagliafico,
‘The transfer market will start in August – the top leagues are now being played out, so the money flows are maintained,’
‘The market value of players will be slightly depressed, but not much. Based on their performance and ambition, a number of our players also want to make the move abroad.
‘Agreements have been made with Andre Onana, Donny van de Beek and Nicolas Tagliafico, but it remains to be seen whether the market is indeed breaking loose.
‘For Onana and Van de Beek, another year of Ajax could certainly be an option, for Tagliafico it is slightly different because of his age.’
Tagliafico is 27 and while his age may be a problem for Ajax is certainly will not be for Spurs and let’s be honest, we are hardly well served at left-back right.
As for his cost, the Sun priced him at just £15 million last summer and Transfermarkt values him at 28 million Euros.
So, what we have is a player that would suit Tottenham perfectly, that we know all about, that we have scouted, that his club has accepted will likely be sold this summer and that will be available at a reasonable price between £15 million and £25 million.
This is an opportunity for Tottenham and one they really should seriously consider taking.
