Tottenham attacker Brennan Johnson has earned high praise from former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson for his impressive performances, particularly after overcoming early season criticism.
Johnson faced harsh online comments after his performance against Arsenal, which led him to deactivate his social media account.
However, he has responded brilliantly, scoring six goals in his last six appearances across all competitions.
Robinson commended Johnson’s mentality, emphasising the Welshman’s ability to bounce back from adversity.
He noted that, while he doesn’t engage much with social media, he admires how the young Welshman has shown the strength of character to move past the negativity and let his football do the talking.
The pundit also stressed that the true supporters—the ones attending the matches—have witnessed Johnson’s remarkable improvement on the pitch.
Robinson believes Johnson has quickly become one of Tottenham’s key players.
He praised the winger for thriving in his role on the right flank under Ange Postecoglou’s attack-minded system.
Speaking to Tottenham News, Robinson said:
“I’m not active on social media very much as it’s not a world I want to dip into, exactly for this reason. I don’t want to expose myself to those kinds of people.”
“The paying fans that go to the stadium have a right to voice their opinions, not the keyboard warriors who don’t sit and watch them every week. When it becomes personal, and it’s not constructive, it’s a dangerous world.”
“It’s not policed how it should be. He has shown a very strong character and let’s talk about his football. He’s been outstanding, with six goals in six games. He’s absolutely flying and is Tottenham’s best player right now.”
“He’s been given a new lease of life down that right-hand side and he looks productive every time he gets the ball. You have to give a lot of credit for his strength of character as he’s matured very quickly.”
Signed from Nottingham Forest for £47.5 million last year, Johnson is now beginning to justify his transfer fee with consistent and impactful performances fully.
The attacker’s recent form is a clear reflection of his hard work and dedication, qualities that Postecoglou himself has highlighted in past interviews. After contributing five goals and ten assists in his debut campaign, Johnson has already surpassed last season’s goal tally.
