“a top-priority signing” – Pete O’Rourke makes exciting claim about Tottenham’s summer transfer plans

Tottenham Hotspur’s search for a left-sided centre-back continues as Antonio Conte is reportedly not “entirely convinced” by Clement Lenglet, who is currently on loan from Barcelona.

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke’s column for Football Insider, Tottenham have identified a left-sided defender as their top priority for the summer transfer window.

Lenglet joined Tottenham on loan from Barcelona in the summer as a stop-gap signing after the club failed to acquire Conte’s primary centre-back targets. However, the Frenchman has failed to impress since his move to North London, and Tottenham are reportedly not keen on signing him permanently.

Conte is yet to make a final decision on Lenglet’s future, but O’Rourke suggests that the Italian coach is not convinced by the 27-year-old.

He wrote:

“In terms of summer activity, Tottenham have highlighted a left-sided defender as a top-priority signing.

Conte is not entirely convinced by Barcelona loanee Clement Lenglet and is yet to make a final decision on whether to sign the Frenchman permanently.”

This uncertainty surrounding Lenglet’s future has opened up the possibility of a return to Sevilla, with the Spanish club reportedly interested in signing him to bolster their defence.

With Lenglet’s future at Tottenham and Barcelona uncertain, it remains to be seen where he will be playing next season. However, Tottenham’s pursuit of a top class centre-back is well documented, and they have been linked with several options ahead of the summer transfer window.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie and Jonathan Tah, as well as Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni, are among the names that have been recently mentioned as potential targets for Tottenham. The club will be hoping to secure the services of a top-quality centre-back to strengthen their defence and improve their chances of challenging for silverware in the coming seasons.
