A Pleasing Twist In One Spurs Transfer, Which May Surprise A Number of Fans

By The Boy -

I believe that Tottenham’s recent winter window has done this fanbase some good. The white noise of social media has been revealed for what it is, a hotbed of frequently reactionary, aggressive, and uninformed shouting.

There’s a difference between a player being booed during a game, and thousands and thousands of words condemning a player… Tanguy Ndombele’s exit from Spurs was frustrating, of course, it was. A record signing and, bar a few odd flashes of genius, we were all left horribly underwhelmed.

According to L’Equipe, the Frenchman may not be entirely the monster that some may have been quick to paint him as.

Vincent Ponsot, the director of football at Lyon, has told the outlet that on the part of Tanguy, there were not only words. The issue of Tanguy’s wages was always going to be an onerous element of any transfer equation. Whatever the precise amount the player was due, the Ligue 1 side could only afford so much.

What Ponsot described as a supplement was required, to meet the shortfall. It was Ndombele who made up the difference. That’s right, the 25-year-old took a pay cut to facilitate the move.

Tottenham has not always found players quite so amenable, and the name of Emmanuel Adebayor springs to mind.

Maybe, just maybe, Ndombele is preparing himself to take more responsibility for his own actions.

I don’t believe Tanguy will play for Tottenham again and I doubt Lo Celso will. Those aren’t loans because they’re 20 and need to get game time – those are loans to get them out in any way possible because they’re failures.

Gil might play for us again, but loaning him out to Spain doesn’t exactly inspire me with confidence regarding his future in English football. However, we spent 25M and Lamela on him, so I suppose there will be efforts to make him come good here.

Dele simply isn’t a lazy player. It is ironically a lazy racial stereotype. Probably unconscious in most people, but overt in others.

You get some total incompetents nowadays don’t you. Throwing the racism insult around because they disagree with, in my opinion, totally fair treatment of a couple of lazy salary theives who have proven themselves just that, several times over.

So criticism of both players was just based on racism was it? So when fans call LoCelso ‘NoShow’ and accuse him of not trying the way he does for his country, or Gollini can’t catch a cold let alone a football? What label would you put on that?

The last time Ndombele completed 90mins was when he was in Nando’s.

That’s because the owners didn’t care.

Completely disagree ..Alli having the hump with others around him failing to complete passes being acknowledged by 3 coaches .giggling with Winks as we threw the game v Zagreb..make no mistake if Levy hadn’t put been under pressure Delhi would still be at Spurs. His arrogance outweighed his ability. As for NDembele..too overweight to compete, his weight outweighed his ability. A litany of criticisms were aimed at him by previous trainers/ coaches . Could very rarely complete90 minutes .Due diligence would’ve prevented him ever wearing our shirt. Myself I had hoped he would persevere upfront but he couldn’t stay on his feet long enough ..I guess he became unhappy ..glad to see both gone.
Not good enough to wear the shirt nothing to do with skin..

Good players can adapt to any coach. He’s no loss because for all his talent he contributed next to nothing.

When you sign a player you just don’t look at their footballing ability. You investigate their character, background, family life, how they live off the field, how they get on with their team mates, and lots more besides. That’s what Liverpool do.

We don’t. Because we have a football genius resident at Tottenham.

Let’s be honest, a lot of the stick he and Dele received has a touch of the Nick Griffin about it.

Dele got called lazy despite being one of the hardest runners and pressers we had. Backed up by actual numbers.

The vitriol for Ndombele was through the roof. Not been the success his talent promised, but signed for one type of coach and ended up with a fun thief in Mourinho, another pragmatist in Nuno, then Conte who demands an almost robotic following of orders. Got stick when he wanted to leave before.

What makes that worse was the no transfer summer was the start of when the club was looking at a rebuild of the playing staff according to Steve Hitchen. The club knew issues were coming and did nothing.

When he said “I wanted something different”, maybe he meant another menu ?

Shame we couldn’t use our Juve connection to sign Dybala, but given our propensity to sign only crocked Argentinians, maybe that’s a bullet dodged.

As for the satisfaction, I think it stems from our decisive outgoing transfer activity. Conte himself said we won’t reshape the squad in one January window, but getting rid of Dele, Tanguy, and GLC frees up squad space, wages, and also will help the mentality.

These guys simply didn’t contribute, so they won’t be missed anyway.

On paper, it’s four out and two in, but overall – if Bentancur and Kulu are not absolute duds and can at least feature regularly – I think we’re two players to the good.

Since it has been established that Tanguy primarily dines at Nando’s and there aren’t any locations in Lyon he may need to re-think the pay cut.

Meanwhile I remain incredulous that anyone is satisfied with this window as 4 out 2 in does not add to a squad that Conte said and we all know needs reinforcement with the upcoming fixture pileup. I guess we’ll have to wait a few months to see who become available in Series A and B to see who Spursa add to the ranks. Not a typo. Spursa.

The issue now is what happens when this loan deal ends. He’s going to have to really turn it on if we’re to get a decent fee for him.

Shows his desperation to get back to his comfort zone I would say, he blames having to work with five coaches here was the problem but I agree with Graham Roberts’ view.

Good on him. The move hasn’t worked out at all, but at least he is willing to do his part to help us unload this burden.

Let’s hope there is some due diligence ahead of our next record signing, eh?

The chaos at Spurs that ensued after signing nobody for over a year, ahead of him, Gio and Sessingnon’s arrival helped nobody. Not like the other two pulled up any trees either is it.

If that’s true then respect to the lad. It’s a real shame that it didn’t work out for him and us. I was one of those who was very excited at the prospect of him joining. I saw a new player that was like a combination of Dembele and Bale, and there is no doubt that he has a lot of talent. I remember the transfer taking for ever in true Levy fashion as the bald administrator attempted to bamboozle Lyon with the most complicated payment plan on the planet, as he always does to everybody’s frustration.
He won’t be the first or last player from abroad that has flopped in the best league in the world. I hope he is successful in France again and we get our £54m or whatever it is back, and Levy spends it on players too and doesn’t misappropriate it on property.

Shame it didn’t work out, but he’s not got the stamina for the PL.

Great skills can only get you so far. Hopefully he plays well at Lyon and someone pays us for him to move on – anything over £30M we should accept IMHO.

or he couldn’t wait to get away fast enough and would even reduce his astronomical wages by a few quid to make it happen

His ability is not questionable. His attitude, motivation and professionalism is. Taking a pay cut is only for him to justify. There is more to this case than meets the eye. Hopefully a spell away might spark a fuse to ignite his inspiration to become the talented footballer we have seen glimpses of.
