“A great desire to win the match” Mourinho happy with the resilience shown by Tottenham

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham earned a fine 3-1 win over Newcastle United to boost their chances of ending this season in a European place.

This win follows their 2-1 win over Arsenal, and it is one of three wins that they have recorded in their last four games.

Like all the other Premier League teams, Spurs have been playing under a very hectic schedule with the games coming around three times per week on some occasions.

Jose Mourinho was delighted with the win and revealed that his players were tired even before the game started, but they had resilience which is being driven by their desire to finish in a European spot.

With the Champions League spots basically gone, Spurs have turned their attention towards playing in the Europa League next season.

Mourinho claimed that they were motivated by their desire to end this season in a Europa League place.

He said as quoted by the BBC: “Resilience, the team was tired before we even started. We had resilience and a great desire to win the match and to fight until the last for our objective which is the Europa League.

“Since I started we are fourth in the table. If we cannot get the Champions League than the Europa League is important.

“No doubt the subs were important. I knew they would give us the freshness that we needed.

“Harry Kane knows how important he is, he is incredible. After such a difficult recovery he is playing every minute of every game, this is the fourth game with two days in between, we are the only team to have this, and Harry gave everything.

“I am proud of them and happy with the points. Serge Aurier is a very strong character, every person is different and in his case, he wanted to play.”

It was a very good win and Mourinho has every right to be happy, things are starting to come together for the Portuguese at long last.

Whilst being sorry about Serge’s younger brother, it has to be said that Aurier seemingly gives the opposition a goal every match with his kamikaze defending. How many points has he cost us this season? Enough to have got top 4 I wouldn’t wonder. Jose needs to move him on and get a more reliable RB.
