In his first pre-match press conference as Tottenham Hotspur’s interim manager, Ryan Mason, expressed his uncertainty about the fitness of goalkeeper Hugo Lloris ahead of the team’s match against Manchester United.
Lloris, who has had a disappointing season with a number of errors leading directly to goals, was taken off at halftime during Spurs’ 6-1 defeat by Newcastle last weekend, and Mason has revealed that the French goalkeeper is a doubt for the upcoming game.
Despite Lloris’ struggles this season, he has remained an important figure for Tottenham and his potential absence could be a cause for concern.
However, Fraser Forster has performed admirably in the Frenchman’s absence, putting in consistent and error-free displays during Lloris’ injury layoff.
Forster’s performances have been a bright spot for Spurs this season and Mason may opt to stick with him for the match against Manchester United.
Tottenham are currently six points behind Manchester United, who are in fourth place and have two games in hand. A victory against United would go a long way in helping Spurs achieve a top-four finish, although their chances of doing so are slim.
Mason will be hoping for a much-improved performance from his team following their thrashing at the hands of Newcastle United on Sunday.
Mason also confirmed that decisions on Clement Lenglet and Ben Davies’ fitness would be taken after training, adding to the uncertainty surrounding Tottenham’s squad ahead of the match.
