Spurs step out of England’s footballing blackout which was cast upon the nation by the Premier League, which as this Substack piece outlines, gets everything wrong, and their reaction to the passing of the United Kingdom’s monarch was no exception. Just when one felt for certain that the domestic fixture list couldn’t become more complicated for fans and more damaging to those competing in it.
The Champions League exempts us from a considerable wait to see our boys play again, and as the game won’t be free to air, it makes sense to bookmark Tottenham live scores in order to keep completely up to date with the game, action by action. The question is, what sort of action might one expect? The game against Marseille was frankly turgid, and had it not been for Richarlison’s superb brace against the French, Spurs would have been amply rewarded with a single point so far in this competition.
It is a conversation about the Brazilian’s promise that dominates the prematch discussion of this game, as it feels as if Heung Min-Son’s miserable form could earn the South Korean an unwelcome spin in one of Antonio Conte’s rotation classes. The Mail Online has described Sonny as ‘no longer untouchable’ which certainly feels at least a touch previous.
For me, there’s little benefit to be gained in seeking to punish the attacker, I’d let what is after all a proven player play his way through his slump. That may require a degree of tolerance from all concerned, but Tottenham is doing well in the Premier League and won last time out in this tournament, so what on earth might all the fuss and panic about? Given that Conte’s next starting XI won’t have to play again until Saturday teatime, there’s surely no urgency, just yet.
When it comes to the betting, Sporting Lisbon is about 5/2, Spurs are 23/20 and the draw is 23/10 which heavily reflects the visitor’s form. Based purely upon the Marseille game, I can see Tottenham being far more vulnerable than these prices might suggest if we get a repeat performance – minus the divine intervention of Richarlison.
Spurs will be without Luca Moura this evening and for a good while afterwards, Antonio Conte said recently, ‘Lucas is not available. His recovery is going well, but we will have to wait until after the international break; we will try to exploit [those] two weeks, then we will have him available for the squad.’
Prediction? Spurs to win by a single goal.
Made 1 sub then tried to hang on for 0-0 from 75 mins.
I love Conte, but we had both our CMs on a yellow, along with a couple of others, so the “tactical foul” became impossible. If the plan was to close out and take the draw (not unreasonable away from home in CL) then then we needed Bente and Hoj off at 70mins and a bit more of that legendary shithousery from Ritchie.
Also, it’s a team game. If you constantly allow the opponent to have so much of the ball they’re going to create chances. Unless you’re happy to stick 9 players behind the ball.
It’s hard to work out exactly why we can be so poor, I feel it’s because Conte’s tactics without the right players will always be a lesser version than the ones he’s had at other clubs. Gold has been up to his usual PR business on behalf of ENIC and claimed that Spence was 100% a player for Conte. I just don’t see how a young Championship kid fits the bill, regardless of his playing position. Conte has said already that Spence is a good signing for ‘the club’, he’s basically said that he’s nowhere near ready to start games at this level.
While this transfer window may have improved some aspects of our squad depth, the first eleven just isn’t improved on last season…
They are flying now 2 games 2 wins 5 goals 0 against we look like chancers.
I have said for ages what we lack is a beast at the back someone like (I wont dignify him by putting his name on here and I dont mean Judas) who will dominate the back line “oi ‘arry I see that long streak of p*ss is up he is mine”. No way will he get to that ball as he would make sure he didnt. Dier was marking air again but no-one came out of that with any credit so I will not single him out but it highlights our need for a beast/leader at the back. Somebody in the past on here has mentioned Mike England he was a big unit.
p.s. to even things up Romero has lost form as well
He isn’t, basically…
… questions he was unable to answer. Turgid.
Dear Antonio
Do you know the English term “mixing it up?”
We were very Paverage against OM but you just dont seem very good in Europe
Nobody cares. It’s Spurs being Spursy
Your heading was spot on H
a massive fail for Conte
Oh FFS
It was 0-0 when I turned on………..lolzzzz
If only we had a set piece specialist to teach our defenders how to outmuscle opponents
Best move & chance of the first half made by a player we sold coz he wasn’t good enough for us.
Says it all.
Can someone explain the offside rule to Charli please.
Another pub side showing us the way to go FFS.
That.
They could be forgiven. It is a yawnfest.
Is there another Live blog or has everyone else fallen asleep?
We really need to sharpen our act up if we want to proceed in this gig.
I think the linesman could’ve at least waited til half time to raise his flag.
Did I just see a Clockwork Orange character on a Sporting Lisbon flag in the stands??!!
Don’t tell me. As a mark of respect for Lizzy, no doubt.
3rd pass back to the keeper from Emerson, from 2 yards out.
Oh, and the old lady across the road has put some more flower boxes on the edge of her front garden. Nice.
Did anyone see that Succession got 5 Emmys?
2 crosses into the box so far; each one essentially a pass back to the keeper.
I’m not judging.
So far so typical of our 1st half performances this season. No quality anywhere on the pitch.
Ben has the ball taken off him on the edge of their area like a toddler being dispossessed by his unloving psycho dad.
Benching Son wouldn’t be a punishment… it’d be taking the pressure off him, and giving Richy and Kulu a go on both flanks.
Kula not starting ,Davies back for lenglet . Gagging for a game of footie!! Coys
Would be a lot happier if we had a creative midfield player who could unlock a very tight, well organised defence. We don’t have that luxury so let’s hope we put on a performance and get a result COYS
From what I have seen , similar strategy /tactics used by both sides , so an interesting match up.
According to player ratings we are probably stronger man for man and with confidence running through the team I’m expecting a 2-0 win and an outstanding start to our CL Campaign continues !!!!!!!!!!! C O Y S !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
