6ft 5in Premier League defender is in a position to join Tottenham now reckons pundit

With just under 12 months left on his current Southampton contract, Jannik Vestergaard has put the Saints in a position to sell him this summer amidst interest from Tottenham.

Spurs want to sign the Dane as they continue to bolster their squad ahead of the new campaign.

He has been a target of the Lilywhites before now and The Times reported earlier in the month that they have started talks with Southampton to sign him.

He was a part of the Denmark team that reached the semi-final of Euro 2020 despite losing their top man, Christian Eriksen in their first game of the competition.

Spurs need new defenders as they look to solve the problems that spoilt Jose Mourinho’s time at the club and Vestergaard would be a solid signing.

Former Premier League full-back, Danny Mills is a fan of the defender and says he is worth being pursued by Spurs not just because of his performance at Euro 2020.

He then predicts that Southampton would sell him now as they won’t want to lose him for free next summer.

“I think he’s a good player and that’s not just what he’s done at the Euros. He was a good player before that.” He tells Football Insider.

“Never just buy a player off the back of four or five games at the European Championship. That’s never a wise move.

“But he’s been a good player long before that. Playing in the Euros has confirmed how good he is. Yes, I think it will be a good move.

“Coming from Southampton it will be a step up. With a year left if they get good money for him, they might just be ready to take it.”
