30-year-old turns down new deal amid Tottenham links

Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has reportedly turned down the opportunity to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper will be a free agent at the end of the season and a report from the Sun claims that the Blues have offered him a long-term contract that could see him spend the remainder of his career at the Premier League club.

However, the experienced shop stopper has snubbed the opportunity to extend his deal because of low wages, and it will be interesting to see whether he decides to leave the club at the end of the season.

Mendy has lost his first team place to Kepa Arrizabalaga this season and the Senegal international will probably seek game-time assurances before committing his long-term future to the club.

The 30-year-old is at peak of his career right now and he cannot afford to sit on the bench at Chelsea every week.

Since the arrival of Graham Potter, Chelsea have decided to use Kepa as their number-one goalkeeper because of his distribution skills.

Meanwhile, Mendy has been quite inconsistent and he has been criticized for his error-prone performances. Furthermore the Senegal international is not an accomplished passer from the back either.

Back in November 90Min claimed that the player has been offered to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Londoners could definitely use a quality goalkeeper, especially with Hugo Lloris in his twilight years.

However, Mendy would be an underwhelming addition, and it remains to be seen whether Spurs decide to make a move for him in the coming months.
