27.6 Million Reasons Why Spurs Could End Up With No Striker Signing This Summer

By The Boy -

The collapse of of the alleged interest in Daka came as no surprise here, my source close to the club was unaware of any move for Daka when we spoke yesterday. As I wrote then, gossip is a movable feast and it looks like this one moved by the time Football London had hit the publish button.

Quite what Steve Hitchen is playing at, getting such brutal knock-backs just days before the season starts, is anyone’s guess. If the Tottenham board was running Harrods, they’d start recruiting for a Father Christmas on December the 23rd.

Elsewhere the language of the reporting only serves to emphasize the last-minute-dot-com vibe emanating from Hotspur Way. Spurs continue to ‘look at‘, ‘have become increasingly interested in…‘ I suggest you take a look at the business activity of all the other Premier League teams. Every damn season, THFC wander in late, looking confused and disparate, having had a troublesome window.

“Napoli’s Arkadiusz Milik is also on Spurs’ radar”, (no laughing at the back) according to The Evening Standard. Except the Italians want €30million, which is unlikely to be found by a club that is still trying to offload Danny Rose, and is issuing rallying cries on social media from the long time underachiever, Erik Lamela.

Today’s Mourinho presser will be fun – we’ve got that coming up shortly for you.

Aye we need another striker, and a left back to replace rose… Hitchens an ex blackburn defender, been talent scouting for nearly 20 years since he stopped playing… His golden signings were modric for us and Suerez for the Scouse.. Since he came back to us replacing paul mitchell I would say we have gone backwards each and every year.

That’s a big ask for somebody as I stated earlier today that inspires no confidence.I’d love to know what his qualifications are for such a lofty position.
Surely his priority is a backup for Kane with no time lost.

I read somewhere recently (maybe a week ago) that there has been an all round change at the top.. Steve Hitchen has been promoted from chief scout to ‘technical director’… Which I presume is a sporting director which manages and oversees all transfers and youth. Levy still at the top. The other two is that fat guy and that old bird with glasses we saw on the doc.. Those two seemed clueless just nodding their heads and agreeing with Baldy… Hitchen is responsible for alot now if he’s sporting director.. Important job. Crucial to our success.

Article on Tottenham’s prospects for the new season in the Guardian and it described Levy’s style as cautious and the Covid crisis is only going to make him more so.

All his moves now are as risk free as he can make them. No big money moves like N’Dombele, all solid low cost like Hojbjerg, Doherty proven performers, low risk of going wrong like Tanguy but no big upside either like Tanguy.

A few low cost gambles like Alfie Devine but I don’t think you will see a punt like Jack Clark for a long time. It says the reason they didn’t pursue Norwich’s Max Arrons is that Mourinho is in win now mode and can’t invest two years in getting him up to the standard required.

Levy is a cautious man for cautious times. And the group verdict of the Guardian pundits is they have Spurs finishing sixth.

I didn’t know anything about this Steve Hitchens before I watched the Amazon soap opera.I couldn’t imagine anyone else inspiring less confidence, except perhaps Levy. They deserve each other, but THFC don’t.I don’t think he will be joining the after dinner speaking circuit.

It’s because Danny’s a shorty that he keeps going for the low hanging fruit.

Hypothetically, if you had Levy over a barrel, what would you do?

Indeed H! Unfortunately the phrase ‘don’t hold your breath’ comes to mind, on an automatic basis, regarding the machinations of our beloved ‘anchor tenant’s’ incoming transfer dealings!

The only silver lining under the current regime, is that Levy had few qualms about stiffing Poch on the player acquisition front, whereas he will be rather more wary about shafting Mourinho.

Mourinho has made it quite clear, just re-iterated in his presser, that he needs a striker and stated that the club (read Levy) agrees. That is a (not so!) subtle way of holding our diminutive supremo over a barrel, if said striker fails to materialise!

Doesn’t look like Rose is leaving. Messing about late into the transfer window is how you end up panicking and buying the damaged fruit that’s left after everyone has picked over everything.
