26-year-old defender ‘on the radar’ of Tottenham, club scouts watched him last week

Tottenham Hotspur are keen on the Japanese defender Koki Machida from Union SG.

According to VoetbalBelgie, the 26-year-old defender is ‘on the radar’ of Tottenham and it remains to be seen whether the North London outfit decide to make a move for him at the end of the season.

The Japanese defender has established himself as a key player for the Belgian club and Tottenham scouts recently watched him in action against Fenerbahce. The two sides faced each other in the UEFA Europa Conference League last week.

Along with Machida, Tottenham scouts were reportedly watching Mohamed Amoura as well. The Premier League side are keen on both players and it will be interesting to see if they follow up on their interest with a concrete proposal to sign them.

Spurs could certainly use another central defender to complete their defensive unit and Machida would be a superb addition.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has extensive knowledge of the Asian market and he has previously brought in quality Asian players during his time at Celtic. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can get a deal for Machida across the line as well.

The 26-year-old will certainly be tempted to move to the Premier League if there is a concrete proposal from Tottenham on the table. It would be a major step up in his career and he would get to showcase his abilities against the best attackers in the world in England.
