25-year-old Tottenham player likely to have his loan deal terminated

Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon is currently on loan at French club Rennes.

However, the 25-year-old has struggled to hold down regular game time with the French outfit, and he is expected to leave the club in January.

According to a report from GFFN, Rennes are looking to terminate his contract next month and the player is expected to return to Tottenham.

Despite starting for Wales in the World Cup, the 25-year-old has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter at the club level. A return to Tottenham is unlikely to benefit him.

It will be interesting to see if he can force his way into Antonio Conte’s first team plans.

Rodon has a contract at the London club until the summer of 2025 and he will still believe that he can salvage a future at the Premier League club.

The likes of Davinson Sanchez and Clement Lenglet have been quite inconsistent this season and Rodon will feel that he can climb above them in the pecking order.

The player was expected to develop into a key starter for Tottenham when he joined the club from Swansea. However, his development has clearly not progressed as expected.

The Welsh international needs to join a club where he will be given regular game time and it will be interesting to see how things develop over the next few weeks.

Rodon certainly has the potential to develop into a solid Premier League defender. Furthermore, he’s only 25 and he has plenty of time to improve and fulfil his potential.
