24-year-old World Cup winner’s father reveals Tottenham request

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero helped his country win the World Cup this year, and the 25-year-old is currently in his homeland celebrating the momentous achievement.

Romero was a key player for Argentina as they finally ended their long wait for a World Cup trophy. The player’s father has now revealed that Tottenham have already requested him to return to England.

He said to LaVoz:  “He won’t have much time to enjoy himself. We’ll see how it goes. But they want him back in England already.”

The Premier League is all set to resume later this week, and it is understandable why Spurs want their best defender back at the club. Romero has been a key player for Tottenham since joining the club and his absence will certainly weaken Antonio Conte’s side.

The London club are currently fourth in the league table, and they will be hoping to secure Champions League football for the next season.

It will be interesting to see if Romero decides to return to the London club immediately.

The 24-year-old has been a regular starter for Argentina throughout their World Cup campaign, and he could certainly use some rest before returning to club football.

Tottenham have Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, and Clement Lenglet as the center-backs, but all three players have been inconsistent this season and Conte probably does not feel comfortable relying on them in the coming weeks.

However, the Spurs manager should look to ease Romero back into the side. The Londoners cannot risk the defender picking up an injury because of the excessive workload.
