£20m Tottenham ace to complete his medical tomorrow ahead of January exit

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur defender Djed Spence is set to complete a loan move away from the club this month.

The 22-year-old right-back joined Tottenham in a deal worth around £20 million at the start of the season but he has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot under Antonio Conte. The talented defender has had just 41 minutes of first-team football across all competitions and he needs to play regularly in order to continue his development and fulfil his tremendous potential.

A loan move during the second half of the season could be ideal for the young defender as he looks to get his career back on track.

Apparently, the player is joining French club Rennes, where he will link up with his Spurs teammate Joe Rodon for the remainder of the season. According to a report from Football London, the 22-year-old Tottenham full-back will complete his medical in France tomorrow and finalise the transfer.

Rennes will not have the option to sign the player permanently at the end of the season and Spurs believe that Spence has a future at the club. Furthermore, the report adds that the defender was not keen on joining the French club permanently either and he believes that he has a long-term future at the London club.

Spence was on loan at Nottingham Forest last season and he helped them secure promotion to the Premier League. His performances earned him a move to the Premier League this season but the transfer has clearly not gone according to plan. That said, the 22-year-old remains a prodigious talent with a big future ahead of him and there is no reason why he cannot succeed at Tottenham in the long run.
