2 Late Fitness Tests And Now 5 Ruled Out Of Man United Clash

By The Boy -

This would ordinarily be a big game, given the mood in the camp things have taken a sinister twist, and so we can expect some strong reactions to the game, whatever the outcome. Tottenham are looking to pull off their first league double against Manchester United since a man called Terry Venables was in charge (this must have been in the dreadful 1990s and so really ought to be stricken from the records, eh?).

Spurs are minus Matt Doherty and Ben Davies, so it will be interesting to see which formation Mourinho goes with at the back – we’ll look for a plausible Xi in due course this afternoon. Davies could be out for some while yet, as could Doherty. A thank you to Ireland and Wales for your support.

Manchester United will be minus Jones and Martial, according to Physio Room. Eric Bailly had tested positive for Covid-19. Pogba and Shaw are both subject to late fitness tests.

Yep. There were a couple of 4th finishes in the 80s. And a 3rd or two. Ah, yes, then there was Poch. Who managed to make Spurs a consistent top 4 team. Four top 4 finishes in a row wasent it? For the first time since the early 60s? Such a shame. Such a waste.

We had top 4 finishes as well as trophys pretty regular. The european ban didn’t help. If you look at 20 years of ENIC v 20 years previous I think under Levy there’s been maybe 2 more top 4 finishes.(thanks to the 3 consistent Poch years)…and 1 League cup. So really we swapped a couple more higher up finishes for everything else. Plus competition back then was fierce. Even Norwich were good?!

Yep, I got it mixed up. My bad. But anyways, it is interesting. One Spurs camp seems to think constant mid-table finishes and a FA or league cup every now and then is a success. Another camp seems to think constant top 4 finishes but no thropies are a success.

And you don’t have to go back too far before Venables for good times either, 85 in the title race top 3 finish, couple years previous UEFA cup, 2 more FA cups….it was about football then….unlike now with Investment inc in charge. No comparison between that and 20 years of nothing under Levy.

We’ll be lucky to get 0 from the next 2 games… Lo no show, Dier & Aurrier all starting today, and with doubts over Son’s fitness….. its fair to say the future isnt bright!

It wasn’t the same season…3rd in 88/89 FA cup in 90/91. The cup season Gazza got injured and we fell away in the league but all in all some great football and a bit of silverware.

Yeah well. Wasent Ardilles a disaster as manager at Spurs? And Klinsmann was a great player, but the team only finished 7th with him.

Who should have been a Spurs player I might add, only Levy went for the cheaper option who is hardly setting the prem on fire. When will he learn that you get what you pay for?

3rd and then the FA Cup was a great. How about the other seasons under El Tel? The harsh mid-table truth: 13th, 6th and 10th.

I certainly do – embarrassing. Fergie used to tell his lads “it’s only Spurs”, even back then we were prone to being Spursy.

Yerp, back then Spurs always went for the big stars, the likes of Ardilles, Klinsmann etc. Then enic took over and now Levy pays for players with cheques connected to his wallet by invisible elastic.
Manager; I want players A,B and C and you’ll get trophies.
Levy; I don’t need trophies just top 4, you’ll get players D,E, and maybe F if I can get the other two for half price.
Manager; What about the fans?
Levy; The gullible fools will keep handing over their cash whatever I do.

“Minus Doherty and Davies”, well that’s a good start, we might stand a chance now.

Remember the match at WHL when seemingly in control home and hosed Spurs were 3-0 up at HT only to lose 5-3?!!! What does a manager tell his players at HT keep it tight lads, don’t give them a sniff. What did we do concede 1 min after HT before that inevitable implosion!

Psychologically if nothing else it’s a must win for Spurs to keep in touch with the chasing pack for top 4 spot. Lose then it’s simply cranks up the pressure on Mourinho before we travel to
Goodison Park Friday eve!

Free of friction and bickering amongst the players and manager, all singing the same tune and heading in the same direction are the Hammers.

Ahhh yes, the late 80’s and early 90’s under El Tel when we played some super passing football with Gazza, Waddle and Lineker involved…..(that’s TOP stars of the day unlike now) and finished 3rd as London’s top side and won the F.A cup.

Thanks Levy for saving us from the dark days…..you twonk.
