£19 million Tottenham man could be on the move in January

Tottenham Hotspur defender Djed Spence is expected to leave the club during the January transfer window.

According to a report from ESPN, the 22-year-old defender could leave the club on loan in search of regular game time.

The player signed for Tottenham in a deal worth around £19 million from Middlesborough at the start of the season but he has struggled to hold down a regular starting berth at spurs.

The player has made just five substitute appearances across all competitions and he needs to play more often in order to continue his development.

A move away from Tottenham during the second half of the season would be ideal for all parties and the report from ESPN claims that the player has interest from four Premier League clubs.

Spence needs to continue his development with regular football and if he manages to impress during his loan spell, he might be able to force his way into Antonio Conte’s first-team plans next season.

The 22-year-old was outstanding during his loan spell at Nottingham Forest last season, but the move to Tottenham has simply not worked out for him so far.

The Italian manager has chosen to prefer Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty over the 22-year-old so far this season. Both Royal and Doherty have been largely underwhelming, but the fact that Conte has chosen to stick with them despite their mediocre performances speaks volumes about his opinion of Spence.

The 22-year-old needs to get his career back on track and a loan move seems like the ideal option for him right now.
