Failure doesn’t sit well with some people.
They don’t seek to explain it away and they can’t shrug it off because it eats away at them.
As Bill Nicholson said, “If you don’t win anything, you have had a bad season.”
One man who feels the same way is Manchester United’s Jose Mourinho.
The Mirror believes that the Unpleasant One has already presented Ed Woodward a short list of summer targets, which include our boy Toby Alderweireld.
Other targets include Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred, Jorginho of Napoli and Nice’s Jean Michael Seri a short list, and an expensive one running close to a quarter of a billion pounds.
Based upon what I’ve witnessed in football over the years, you cannot ship in endless recruits without destabilising the squad.
It’s just too much of an overhaul for the group to cope with.
Tottenham’s Magnificent 7 was point in case and Everton manages to sabotage themselves last season by making too many signings.
Spurs are poised to avoid this pitfall if they can strike a balance between player retention and genuinely strengthening the the depth of the squad.
I stress the ‘strengthening’ part there, because mucking about with No’Cluedos et al of this world is such a waste of everyone’s time, it’s just disingenuous.
Do ENIC have a winning mentality?
I assert they don’t, and if you pressed them for an answer they would tell you that they much preferred being rich cowards.
