Winks Is Back | Great Training Snaps

Winks Is Back | Great Training Snaps
The great white hope himself has returned to training and by all photographic accounts the boy Winks is raring to get to it.

Whist we’re all braced for the ‘just like a new signing’ cobblers, Winks will be given  a genuinely warm welcome.

It was an ankle ligament injury sustained against Burnley on April 1st last season that caused the 21 year old to be taken off on a stretcher and miss the rest of the season.

Harry has been pretty upbeat his progress and told the club site:

“I’m obviously still rehabbing and I’ll be in a good 10 days or so before everyone, just getting myself fit, testing my ankle and making sure it’s okay to go back into full training.

I’ve almost got a pre-season before a pre-season just to get myself fit so hopefully I can come back in the best shape I can possibly be in.”

I’m playing in a friendly match this afternoon back in my old home town of Sutton Coldfield. We then take on the Aston Villa ‘Legends’ in a charity match in September. This week, I was informed that 1, possibly 2 of the players that feature in the team we’re playing today have been ‘inside’ for a few years… Wish me luck!

That is great news. Hoped he wouldn’t be out too long, meaning the club sign someone for his position and then he finds others blocking his way back to the first team and had to move on to get a chance elsewhere.

A few more starts this season hopefully.

I liked Walker (the player) and I didn’t want him to leave, but now he has I have zero interest in him. I don’t wish him ill for the future but, now his future isn’t at Spurs, I wish him no more good than I would any other schmuck I might’ve seen from afar, but never known.

Changing the subject: Does anyone know if tax is payable on transfers? Maybe that’s (one of the reasons) why fees are paid in instalments?

  • Ufluckinplic July 15, 2017 at 2:27 am

If Pep can get Walker to cross a ball then he can be rightly judged the world’s best coach. Citeh have to have a contingent of home grown players, they’ve paid over the odds for Walker, Sterling & Stones but they have at least bought players raised in the physical blood and thunder of the English domestic league and (ahem) England players. Walker caused chaos in opponents half with his pace and on occasions in our half! Not interested in why he went as it was his choice and good luck to him. However I would say to those suggesting it was down to money, if you were offered a pay rise doubling your current salary knowing you probably have 5-7 years left in your chosen career would you not take it?

  • East Stand July 15, 2017 at 12:14 am

I’m not getting into this “Walker was shit anyway, better off with the cash” nonsense.

It just so happens a good right back leaving a team that is fully functional and full of decent players isn’t going to disrupt things much.

I’m not 100% sure that Bonzo was switched on enough to fully buy into the Poch way, he’s had a few bad injuries, he’s 27 so his value is set to decline from here, 50m was good business etc etc

However, this is essentially a senior first team player demanding to move to double his salary.

Whatever you think of Walker and his lack of certain attributes that may justify such a hefty fee, the fact is his head was turned and his wages doubled.

Let’s hope replaceable Bonzo doesn’t become the trail blazer for more in the team we can’t replac

  • TheCincinnatiYid July 14, 2017 at 11:53 pm

Sneijder is 33. Not the Porky profile. I still hope there will be at least one quality signing [not talking about new boys Rose, Coco, Winks] but fear that we will be treated to avatars of Clinto Cards, Faz, Sissy–DL substitutes instead of useful footballers. This syndrome goes back to Saha and Nelson, if not further.

I invite DD to compile a list of all the pitiful substitutes we have been treated to through the DL years.

Some good football there, hope he continues to play like that…pre season starts next Saturday I believe, need some new blood…

  • Lilywhite July 14, 2017 at 9:27 pm

I recognize the practical issues that likely allowed the move, but still think there a few issues w us selling Walker: 1) despite being an idiot going forward w very little end product, he is still over all, a very good full back. Leaving. Making us thinner; 2) There has to be a psychological effect on others when a starter leaves for greener pastures; 3) he’s getting paid way more, see no. 2.

Fortunately, we’ve received a huge fee and have Trippier, a much smarter footballer, vastly better going forward (who could really help Vinny this year w good crossing) albiet IMO a full back at about the same overall level as Walker w different strengths and weaknesses.

So now what? We need cover and more attacking players. FFS.

  • Matt July 14, 2017 at 9:13 pm

Make or break year for Onomah, shone for country, not for club by comparison, he either steps up giving a credible option in Att/Mid or goes i think, Winks the example to follow. Seeing as the transfer room is locked and no one really wants to find the key, which will be pissing the gaffer off coz he hasnt quite mastered moonwalking on water just yet and could need a bit of a boost….only following up our most successful premier league season and the champions league as our reward, why wouldnt a paper thin squad be able to fight on all fronts…and at f**kin’ wembley…fills me with dread and cringe everytime i think about it 😨

  • Matt July 14, 2017 at 8:56 pm

On Walker, Trippier proved far superior at the end and his distribution was outrageously good. You can have all the pace in the world but a footballing brain is priceless and Trippier has one…Walker…not so much, just very good at what he could do well. (Just my opinion is all 😉). Trippier will shine, giving effort everytime i see him

    • Harry Hotspur July 14, 2017 at 8:58 pm
