Why Are Sherwood’s Comments Being Twisted?

By The Boy -

Looking at some of this morning’s headlines and articles. specifically the  Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood puts Europa League glory above top-four place (Metro), it really is depressing that the desire to twist what people say is still so prevalent in our football press.

The stupidity is compounded with embarrassment. Not only is most of the conventional press regarded as completely unreliable, but it’s 2014; any kid with a handheld wireless device can now not only access the truth, they can routinely watch videoed interviews. There will come a time when they will be able to watch pressers etc in a real time stream.

So Tim said he places the Europa above the Premier League then, did he?

No, he didn’t.

Here’s what he actually said:

“What looks best on the CV of a manager is winning trophies. We have seen that down the years, managers who have won this tournament have gone on to bigger and better things.

The priority of the club is to win both, a place in the Champions League and a trophy at the end of the Europa League. I think we have a squad that is big enough to do that.

Certainly, though, anyone who tells you that winning trophies isn’t the best thing to put on your CV would by lying to you.”

This may shock some, as I really don’t care for the man, but all he’s said there is that trophies are important.

Since day #1 in office, Sherwood has been crystal clear about his future. Top 4 or “bye bye Charlie.” Quite what the Metro was up to, is anyone’s guess.

The piece in the Metro was written by Metro’s Rugby Correspondent, Deputy Olympics Editor and sports journalist covering football, tennis and boxing, Richard Hookham.
