The England starting XI is as follows: Pickford; 2Walker 5Stones 6Maguire 8Henderson 12Trippier 21Loftus-Cheek 7Lingard 18Young 10Sterling 9Kane which only confirms the point I made on a previous blog.

Getting selected to play for your country is a big deal and if you don’t play, then there’s a reason for that.

Either there are some sensational players ahead of you, or your stock is a bit faded.

Rose, Dier and Alli are eminently placed Internationally as second raters – this isn’t my opinion – this is a simple analysis based upon the junk that is keeping them out of today’s starting line up.

Young, Lingard and Sterling are 9 times out of 10 –  time wasters.

Yet still ahead of Alli.

Bonzo brain-farted on cue in the Tunisia game, and Maguire was unconvincing.

Yet still ahead of Dier.

Harry Kane has made no secret of his ambition in this tournament.

Belgium made Tunisia look a pretty cheap and rather pointless operation.

Can Kane play catch up with Lukaku & Co.,?

Fingers crossed.

Just Lloking at these latest snaps of the stadium – The inside is magnificent whilst the outside is aesthetically atrocious. If the rumours are true that Haringey council had a say on what the outside looked like, it’s a real shame. Design by committee to the tune of $1bn.

As long as the football is good on the inside! It will look lovely on European nights 🙂

Can you imagine how many goals Kane will score when the team pass to him?

    • Harry Hotspur June 25, 2018 at 10:02 am

Yes, once this ‘Sent to Coventry’ business is dropped, the boy will do good.

  • Matt June 25, 2018 at 9:25 am

Am I watching a different Sterling to the media? According to most reports his last two games have been OK; apparently with a good first half in the first game. He’s been anonymous at best and embarrassing at worst. Rashford and Alli back for Belgium I hope.

    • Gloster1861 June 25, 2018 at 9:35 am

I frankly didn’t notice him yesterday.

Apart from the one-two for Lingard’s goal, he just ran about a bit to no visible effect.

      Sterling is incredibly overrated

  • East Stand June 25, 2018 at 9:14 am

Thought Loftus-Cheek looked way off Alli’s level. Alli can be frustrating but looks up to the task, L.C gave the ball away time and time and time again against a pub team. Too soon for him at this level.

    • Matt June 25, 2018 at 9:23 am

You’re right; Alli looked pretty bright till he was injured. If the key is getting Kane chances; and it is; we need Alli.

  • Gloster1861 June 25, 2018 at 8:57 am

It is claimed that Mateo Kovacic has a buy out clause of 50 million euros. If so, I expect Levy to lodge a bid at that level, even if we get out bid at a higher amount.

No low balling and screwing up for a class player in demand, Mr Jerk.

Have to say I’d retain young at LB. His delivery and defending is better than Rose IMO. In his pomp he’d have been a shoo in but I don’t see the robust defending and defenders beaten at the moment. Pains me to say it.

    • Gloster1861 June 25, 2018 at 8:39 am

It’s a sad thing to say, but Rose simply didn’t look like he had a clue yesterday. He didn’t fit in.

        He was completely lost.

        • East Stand June 25, 2018 at 9:17 am

Rose is overrated, as is Walker. As was Lalana etc at Saints, it’s the Poch effect on younger English players. Without him they look lost…

  • Camus June 25, 2018 at 8:12 am

Just catching up after a busy weekend.
    ‘Pléa’ from Nice, hey…?
Hold me back if I get too excited…

In other news, a great win for the Three Lions yesterday, on the surface of it.
Clinical, clinical and then lucky from Kane.
    What a man though.

It’s all looking good and the pundits are getting carried away, but if I were Gareth I’d be getting a bit worried about a few things:-

    – We haven’t carved out *any* chances from open play for our world-class striker Kane
    – As Glos said, Walker, Stones and Maguire will get carved to bits by a team with actual strikers and attackers who can play
    – Trippier’s strapping looks a concern – without his deadly deliveries, where are most of the goals coming from?
    – How is Sterling still stealing appearances in the starting line-up? – based on what we’ve seen so far, I’d probably play any of Rashford, Vardy or even Welbeck before him…
    – Can anyone explain Ashley Young at left-back to me because I’m just not getting it…?

    • Gloster1861 June 25, 2018 at 8:41 am

At left back Rose simply isn’t competing or showing anything. Southgate is currently choosing the least worst of the two.

      • Camus June 25, 2018 at 8:43 am

        Yes, you’re probably right.
At least Young looks switched on, even if he’s a square peg in a round hole.

Heathrow expansion vote in the Commons today. Boris Johnson has very conveniently flown overseas to avoid the vote, the massive twat. The man who declared to the people of Hillingdon as their MP he would fight the plans, has run away on the vital day.

What an empty, vacuous windbag that man is.

    • Gloster1861 June 25, 2018 at 7:57 am

Dilly, it wasn’t perfect. Our defence let us down badly. Panama could easily have banged in three goals second half.

Going forward we look good, but someone is going to cut us to bits. Maguire, Stones and Walker aren’t a good back three.

      • dilly June 24, 2018 at 11:19 pm

Glos fair point but at least England are playing an exciting brand of football which may ultimately come to nothing against better opposition but the team is giving it a go.

        • Gloster1861 June 24, 2018 at 11:24 pm

          High scoring games to come.

Someone pointed out earlier that Kane has five goals and not one of them was with an assist, even the Maguire header was an attempt on goal imho which Harry diverted in.

If they actually pass to Harry he’ll score a bucket load of goals.

          • dilly June 24, 2018 at 11:27 pm

    From Squawka:

Real Madrid‘s Mateo Kovacic has sensationally declared that he wants to leave the club.

In a shocking statement, the Croatian has declared that a lack of playing time has motivated him to make the decision. Kovacic said: “I love football and being on the grass, I want the opportunity to be a starter in another team.”

So it’s not about being unhappy in Madrid, where he has been part of the side that won three consecutive Champions Leagues, but about being a starter.

So where could he go? What are the best options? Squawka investigates!

    Dream: Spurs
Kovacic has just turned 24, so could still be viewed as a ‘young’ player (although he is right on the edge of that bracket). This is when he needs to start producing and probably why he’s decided to push to leave the Santiago Bernabeu.

He’s spent the last three seasons (mostly) on the bench, so he still has plenty of room to grow as a player even though he’s also pretty damn good.

Mauricio Pochettino’s ability to develop young (and youngish) players is legendary. He knows just how to work with them so they can become their best selves, tactically and mentally. After years of being a sub, Kovacic would relish a starring role in the Spurs midfield, which has a ready-made spot for the Croatian as Mousa Dembele’s replacement.

Kovacic’s dribbling combined with his physical power and passing ability make him ideal to step up and replace a clearly declining Dembele. The Belgian’s role in Tottenham’s midfield is essential, so Kovacic would start every game. The thing is, the wages Kovacic would demand and the asking price Madrid would want surely makes this a dream.

Kovacic must have subscribed to Harry Hotspur! He knows we want him.

Just have to cough up the 60 million and the 120k per week. But considering the money Levy pissed away on Sissoko that would be value.

  • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? June 24, 2018 at 8:01 pm

That’s Hills special?? Lebandowski and Falcao to score in 2nd half 12/1!?!
I’d want 1500/1. That is so unlikely its ridiculous. Bookies are a joke.

    • Gloster1861 June 24, 2018 at 8:16 pm

I don’t bet, but even I thought that seemed really poor odds to me.

      • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? June 24, 2018 at 8:22 pm

I’d want those odds for Poland to score a goal!

  • Mikespurs June 24, 2018 at 7:56 pm

Poland came out with energy. Now look slow & cumbersome like last game.

    • Gloster1861 June 24, 2018 at 7:58 pm

This means FIFA will most likely push their ranking UP to 5th.

      🙄

      • Mikespurs June 24, 2018 at 8:02 pm

I think they changed to rules after Poland’s friendly schedule. They played piss poor teams, won a lot & Jensen their fifa ranking. Could be wrong

  • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? June 24, 2018 at 7:42 pm

  • Mikespurs June 24, 2018 at 7:26 pm

    Murphy “It’s Harry Kane”.

  • Matt June 24, 2018 at 5:39 pm

    From sunny Sorrento. We learned 3 things ;

    1. Kane = 5 goals without a single pass to him. World class +
    2. Sterling should be replaced by someone with better touch and judgement. I suggest Tyson Fury
    3. Tripper must take set pieces next season

    • dilly June 24, 2018 at 5:45 pm

      Surely 3) is a cert!

  • Gloster1861 June 24, 2018 at 4:59 pm

Not convinced our defence can stand up to a good attack. Stones Maguire and Walker all have mistakes in them and Young is quite simply not even PL standard nowadays. Trippier will also get exposed pushing forward (as per his instructions).

  • cavey June 24, 2018 at 4:33 pm

Just looking at some U Tube vids of Jacob Rees Mogg. That man should be PM. His knowledge of the laws in the EU are second to none. He should at least be our negotiator instead of the idiot that’s currently doing it.

    • Gloster1861 June 24, 2018 at 4:39 pm

In fact he’s a high level bluffer. He sounds as if he knows stuff, but I’ve seen him made to fall flat on his well pampered face. He has the well polished arrogance of the public school system.

      • Gloster1861 June 24, 2018 at 4:45 pm

He has skeletons in his cupboard. If the Tories were stupid enough to choose him as leader it would be a gift for Labour.

Relating to how he made his millions (e.g. big investments in Russia, whilst he makes speeches about financial sanctions against Russia).

At the moment Labour humour him because he is a shit stirrer on the Tory benches, but that could all change in the twinkling of an eye.

According to WIKI seemingly JRM accumulated his wealth by establishing Somerset Capital Management with others managed via subsidiaries in the tax havens of the Cayman Islands and Singapore. Rees-Mogg has defended offshore tax havens, and his vast wealth (£100,000,000+, with his wife, when she comes into her inheritance, as of November 2016)[32] has left him open to the criticism that he can not understand the lives and concerns of many ordinary people.[33] In 2018, Somerset Capital setup an EU office in Dublin, citing Brexit as a cause of “considerable uncertainty”
amid concerns about being cut off from European investors, and that Brexit “may increase costs or make it more difficult for the Icav to pursue its objectives” [34]; this is contrary to Rees-Moggs public assurances about Brexit to the British public.
