Adam Johnson has been sacked by Sunderland Football Club.
Johnson’s situation was off limits at manager Sam Allardyce’s press conference on Thursday afternoon, although he did confirm the player would not be part of his squad against the Manchester United.
Allardyce said: “He’ll not be available for this weekend.”
Asked if Johnson’s absence would extend beyond that, with the trial scheduled to last more than two weeks, the 61-year-old said: “We will see how it goes after that.”
The 28-year-old Sunderland winger pleaded guilty to one count of grooming, and one count of sexual activity with a 15-year-old schoolgirl on the first day of his trial at Bradford crown court.
He will stand trial on Friday on two further counts of sexual activity with a child, which he denies.
Adidas have cancelled their contract with the midfielder with immediate effect.
Hopefully, football will not only turn their back completely on this arsehole, but continue to make a point of reminding other footballers the difference between right and wrong.
