Pochettino is doing a good impression of a man disappearing down rabbit holes.

If you’re asked a question that will fuel a narrative you do not wish to flame, then there are a number of ways you respond in order to redirect the traffic.

I cannot help but think Poch is still in full Guillem Balagué mode and thinks he has to share his most detailed thoughts.

“Harry is so special. Because he loves Tottenham and he has always been at Tottenham. But we need to be clever how we manage him. The player needs to choose to stay here, you cannot force the player to stay here.

“Our job is to try to work together and try to achieve everything we want at the club and of course Harry is such a special player. I told him only a few special players can spend all their career in one club.

“I think Harry is this type of a player who can stay all his career at Tottenham because he loves Tottenham, but in football you cannot be sure.

“It is today, the present. Tomorrow and after tomorrow you need to doubt. That is why it is so important to work together and try to achieve all that you want.”

I’m not going to second guess what the true dynamic is between Kane and Spurs, however there’s more than enough in Poch’s quotes there to suggest significant doubt.

In which case, Poch really should zip it.

24hrs ago, the manager of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club had NOT said ‘you cannot force the player to stay here’ .  Force is a strong word with negative associations.

Buying players for the EPL is a lottery, and I can understand Levy’s reluctance to pay top dollar when you cannot guarantee what you are getting.

However, why not go after some of the so called top players on a loan with option to buy basis? You might pay more than you would like if you do eventually buy, but at least you’ll have a better idea if the player is suited to you / the EPL.

    Please fuck off.

    Loaning top players.

You were binned for ITK bothering and yet you break your balls to creep back in to come up with this abject shite.

75 million for van Dijk means Toby is of equivalent value at least. He has performed at a much higher level.

I imagine the difference lies between actual value and what a club is willing to pay.

Pocho And Kaneinho have cleverly painted Levy into a corner for the first time.If he doesnt match their ambitions eventually they will both have to go but they dont want to.Looks likw they will give him at least 1 season in the new Lane and see what happens.Praps they will walk off holding hands together some where. They are both winners without having won anything.

CIES Football Observatory research team has calculated the transfer values of players in the five top European leagues. The top two are Neymar, valued at £188m with his former Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi in second at £178.5m.

    Spurs players on the list:

    3rd: Harry Kane £172m.
    6th: Dele Alli £151m
    29th: Christian Eriksen £87m
    35th: Eric Dier £82m
    56th: Heung-Min Son £64m

I think Poch would be much better off thinking of how to improve his own performance of game changes during matches and how not to but deadwood in the transfer market again.

    • gloster1861 January 8, 2018 at 3:01 pm

Poch removed the previous bundle of deadwood at the club he found on his arrival, but seems incapable now. Because he won’t admit culpability?

    • 1882 January 8, 2018 at 3:05 pm

I think Poch’s in game management would improve if he trusted the players on his bench. Right now his subs have the least time to make an impact out of any other teams (on average) so therefore make some of the least contributions. I just want to see us buy some players Poch trusts, only time he has a player he trusts on the bench is when they were not fit enough to start!

    • MysteriousStranger January 8, 2018 at 2:49 pm

Why? What would be the point? Didn’t work when AVB and Levy said Bale wasn’t for sale. You’d rather the manager or the chairman says something he cannot guarantee/doesn’t mean (Levy), to feed the gullible fans bollocks before Levy sells him from under him?

Ripping off music has a long history. I recall listening to a piece of classical music by Borodin, and realised his melody in Prince Igor had been shamelessly ‘recycled’ for the song Stranger in Paradise.

It’s ok, Uncle Joe will surprise us all and open his pockets and pay the stadium off in full ( after all what’s a little scope creep cost on any project). He’ll then give Poch £500 million to buy players and the price of the cheese will be massively subsidised in the new stadium.

Erm nurse, think it might be time for my drugs again…

  • Camus January 8, 2018 at 2:02 pm

I think you make a valid point, H.
Poch’s grasp of English is strong enough that he could easily keep a straight bat with something like “The club is in a great place with a new stadium on the way, and we’re looking forward to an exciting future which Harry is a massive part of.”

Even the old cliche “He’s not for sale” would suffice.

I’m not suggesting he’ll go any time soon, but, with Poch, you end up in more doubt than you’d be were he to say nothing at all.

    • gloster1861 January 8, 2018 at 2:18 pm

Poch will get ripped apart for saying meaningless shit too, what he needs to do is talk about Kane in a way that avoids talking about staying or going, and in a direct questions you just say “he is unsellable at the moment”.

Rose actually said the opposite in his radio interview last spring – he said he could understand why Harry would have many personal reasons and motivations for staying that he’d never share

This is embarrassing. What reasons? He promised his dying Auntie he’d never leave?

Danny Rose is a moron, so I’ll wait for someone who isn’t to explain the mysterious and complex shrouds of this one.

    • mattspurs January 8, 2018 at 2:23 pm

From Rose’s interview in May – on leaving… and Kane thinking differently to Rose perhaps. Illustrating that their mindsets are different.

“A player might feel that he’s done enough at Tottenham, and he might fancy a change. You might feel that Tottenham is a nearly club, we ‘nearly’ go close to winning the league, we ‘nearly’ go close to winning the semifinal of the FA Cup, and he might choose to move on.

“I think a lot of it’s going to be down to the individual. I don’t want to speak on behalf of anyone, but working with someone like Harry Kane, I can tell you that his mindset will be now, ‘I’m staying at Tottenham, I’m going to break every single record … I’m going to set new records, I’m going to get as close to [Premier League record scorer] Alan Shearer as possible, I’m going to captain this club into the new stadium.’

“So when you’ve got a player like him with that mindset, I don’t think Tottenham have to worry in that respect. But I think it just depends where the individual is in the stage of his career.”

He was a good player, a cunt, but a good player – but spare us the bollocks about how he spent a lot of time on the bench at Man U, cos bar his last season there it patently isn’t true.

I never saw Berbatov as a lazy cunt.
The bloke was a fantastic player.
I just looked up the stats and you are about 25% off

              • MysteriousStranger January 8, 2018 at 3:04 pm

25% off what? You can only play in 38 League games in a season. He played over 40 games a season for Man United in all comps bar his last season when he played about half that.

                • ronwol196061🇨🇦 January 8, 2018 at 3:08 pm

In any case I liked Berbatov…his prowness around the goal and his heading ability. Class to me

                  • MysteriousStranger January 8, 2018 at 3:18 pm

                    Anyway, Happy New Year!

You cpuld be right I was looking at the Premier League stats.

                • MysteriousStranger January 8, 2018 at 3:08 pm

                  It’s possible on occasion.

    • mattspurs January 8, 2018 at 1:04 pm

Rose actually said the opposite in his radio interview last spring – he said he could understand why Harry would have many personal reasons and motivations for staying that he’d never share

      • 💋 January 8, 2018 at 1:06 pm

        Yeah, but …

      • Ronan January 8, 2018 at 1:21 pm

Hardly means Kane isn’t equally underwhelmed by the transfer dealings. ‘I’ve always said: keep progressing, keep getting better. We want to start winning trophies’.

        • ronwol196061🇨🇦 January 8, 2018 at 1:38 pm

          Poch is the problem.
He could explain the facts of life to Levy.

  • Horndog 🇺🇸 January 8, 2018 at 12:51 pm

Kane seems level headed but none of us really know him. He doesn’t seem the kind who will get his head turned easily. He will be the one to decide it is TIME to leave, if he ever does. I assume he will be able to assess the progress of the club as it relates to his own ambitions. Seems to me the club still has the opportunity to show him the way to stay or not.

  • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? January 8, 2018 at 12:44 pm

Drip, drip, drip, slow suggestion. We are being managed again. Gradually getting it through to the fans the idea of Harry leaving sooner rather than later. Is the chair gonna turn down 200+ million with an ever spiralling stadium debt? Poch doesn’t seem to think so. At best he’s not at all sure. I said from the start, when it happens, the fans will justify it. Roll out the clichés…..

    • caveman January 8, 2018 at 12:50 pm

Spiralling stadium debt. Why. surely a building project can be kept to programme and budget in this day and age. levy is hiding money, there’s no other explanation for these spiralling rumours. He must be.

      • Alan Hogan January 8, 2018 at 12:56 pm

Only a Sneaky, Robbing Rat would “Hide” Money Caveman……… Oh Now I get your drift.

      • ronwol196061🇨🇦 January 8, 2018 at 1:01 pm

Most of them go over budget

        • caveman January 8, 2018 at 1:04 pm

But not 100% Ron. I worked in construction and if a project went over 15% heads would roll. This one has gone from £450m to £1 billion.

          • ronwol196061🇨🇦 January 8, 2018 at 1:14 pm

            Oh

          • mattspurs January 8, 2018 at 1:16 pm

But the spec has changed massively from the original concept

            • gloster1861 January 8, 2018 at 2:40 pm

And the planning permission too? By such a large degree?

          • McG ⚽️⚽️ January 8, 2018 at 3:59 pm

Cave, not you, but whoever reported 1 billion is talking total bollox. Everyone will crow on about the cost etc, we all know it’s increased a bit, but if we show more than 450 mil debt on the balance sheet I’ll eat a hat, it just won’t happen.

      • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? January 8, 2018 at 1:21 pm

        The old duffel bags….

  • Accy January 8, 2018 at 12:41 pm

Kane, who says he is not in contract talks with Tottenham and has no knowledge of any plans for discussions about a new deal, was then asked what Spurs need to do to keep him at the club long-term.

He replied: “I’ve always said: just keep progressing, keep getting better. We want to start winning trophies so that’s the aim. As long as the club keep doing that then I’m happy here.”

  • Accy January 8, 2018 at 12:27 pm

Basically, create a team worthy of Kane and he stays. Start winning things and he stays.

Continue signing the Sissokos and Nkoudous of the world and he will leave along with the other great players we have.

Kane and Rose look quite tight and I can easily imagine that the two share similar views on our transfer dealings.

  • Mark My Words January 8, 2018 at 12:09 pm

Not sure why I have a pic of Archibald everytime I post. Could be worse tho!

It will be from the Gravatar account that’s been set up using your email address.

    • Limerick AL. January 8, 2018 at 12:28 pm

You can borrow my Avatar anytime. If Kane wants out, I don’t blame him and I could not care less, Levy, Enic, Poch and Co can all Fuck Off, or Go Away, whichever they find the easier.

  • Mark My Words January 8, 2018 at 12:08 pm

It’s the softening up of the fans for the departure of Kane and possibly others this summer or the following season. While 300m for Kane would be welcome his replacement cost isn’t going to be 50m. Poch is just fuelling the fires of the Sky 5 (which we’re not and never will be part of) and their media.

  • mattspurs January 8, 2018 at 12:07 pm

I thought you’d quite like the noises being made about actually trying to win stuff?

  • Dj January 8, 2018 at 12:01 pm

A small matter of 300million with that statement for new players would be nice

  • 61SpursNut🌰 January 8, 2018 at 12:01 pm

    Seconded.
