Watching Spurs Like Watching The US Midterms

By The Boy -

Watching Spurs is much like watching US politics, you’re constantly aware that lots of other people haven’t got a clue what they are looking at.

Last night Trump achieved about the norm in the midterms in fact, he did better than Obama.

Yet the narrative from the Dumb Dumbs is the Democrats rocked the Kasbah.

Last night Spurs took what felt like 4 hours to eventually beat a PSV side that were about as gifted as Huddersfield Town.

As a result, we’re going to be embroiled in even more games – probably now across two competitions to zero good purpose.

If you think Spurs are going to win the Champions League with this fatigued squad you perhaps need to have a friendly chat with a psychiatric nurse.

If you believe Spurs could now go on and win the Europa Cup, I would hope that for your own wellbeing you are sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

Great news for Levy, he’s lucked into another revenue stream.

A burdening fixture schedule is precise opposite of what the club needed.

The Democrats took the House Of Represenatives and Spurs drew a short straw.

Hurrah.

Ha – fans have no power, unless you are willing to walk away you have no power. I didn’t say you were stupid for enjoying the ride.

Correction, we need to be Inter 2-0 not 3 to put ourselves safely in 2nd before the last game.

So you would rather knacker out our team fighting a battle that cant be won? Even if we beat Inter (not likely) we need PSV to beat them too just to stand a chance. Unless we spank Inter 3-0, then we just need to match their PSV result. Which lets face it, will be a win. I have not done all the maths but my little brain says we need to over come a 2 goal goal difference, and beat Inter to be level on points. Then we need to do more than just match there PSV result. So unless PSV decide that they want to have some pride, and Barca are happy losing as they are top of the group. I would rather we lost last night and ended it so we can save some players. I am happy to fight at Barca, but the Inter game is between two VERY hard London derbies. This season, like it or not is almost a write off, best case for me is actually getting back into the top 4, and maybe, hopefully winning a domestic cup. However, the Europa and Champs league are not winnable, any progression is for money only.

Let’s just enjoy each game as it comes.

The definition of stupidity.

Seriously? “Worst result possible”? For years we dreamed of being a top 4 club playing in the champions league, and now we are in that privileged position battling Europe’s finest teams, you are wishing us to drop out to focus on the winter schedule at home.

We did well to persevere last night, showed some good mental strength to get the win, and now we have highly competitive games against Inter and Barca to look forward to. As fans, isn’t this what we want? Let’s just enjoy each game as it comes.

in most seasons I would agree with you. However, this is one season where less is more. We have Chelsea, Inter, Arsenal… talk about getting stiched up. The Barca game was going to be one to look forward to, but will kick us in the teeth just before a very tough winter schedule.

Agree 100% about the subjective. My obvious fear is that most of our squad didn’t get a rest in the summer. Adrenalin only carrots you so far and Christmas will be busy enough, without the allure of the Europa to left hooks us again in February.

But you’re right. Winning counts for plenty.

We’re going to the N camp. To play Barcelona. In the champions league. The game we used to dream about. Any circumstances. I cant see a negative.

There are objective realities and there are subjective situations. Most people struggle to understand the link between the two. Objectively, nearly all of what HH says is correct: We don’t need the extra games; we’re loads off being good enough to win the Europa or win a CL elimination game; the team would be better served devoting its limited (and declining) physical resources to an achievable task.

But the subjective factor, speaking as someone who played sport at a quasi-professional (that is, we trained as pros but were not paid, as is the way in American universities) level, is that winning games affects your attitude and your attitude affects your fatigue levels. Winning is contagious and so is losing. So by winning yesterday, Spurs pick up a narrative of tenacity and possibility during a run of fixtures against Chelsea and Arsenal. That’s important, even if objectively it would have been better to exit at the bottom and avoid the venomous effects of playing on thursdays.

Last night was possibly the worse result possible. Even if Inter beat Barca at least we would have known we were done with the CL. We now have to compete at Inter. Lets say we win that, we have to compete against Barca almost knowing for sure Inter will beat PSV so we are in the Europa anyway, but with MAXIMUM expenditure.

There’s an election on? European football experience will be great providing its not to the detriment of our on shore realistically can win something team. Any player who wont be at spurs next season (except toby) we should not waste the experience of Europe football on. The teams is winning. I reckon we’ll get maximum points in December then anything is possible with momentum.
