The Mirror are confident that the next names to be invited over the tannoy at Hotspur Way to ‘kindly report to the HR Dept’ are that of Dele all and Christian Eriksen. Unless ENIC are planning upon upping their wages x turnover percentage then they will have done well to get in so quickly.

Because my back of a cigarette packets maths says that there isn’t enough for everyone to get double bubble.  Of course, it is possible to create more money by selling players – Moussa Sissoko has been busily hoovering up £95,000 a week since he got here – which is quite astonishing when one pictures that amount as a discount if one were to buy someone who was actually good. If ENIC are to be brave, as Harry Kane’s pay rise suggests, the jig is now well and truly up as far as discussing pay with new signings.

You might be able to fend off deadbeats like Sissooko with ‘only’ £95,000 pwk, but truly coveted players won’t accept Levy’s buttons. This leads me to ponder Alderweireld’s situation – for the umpteenth time.

How much was he really asking for? If it was parity with the sort of raise Kane got, then he wasn’t being unreasonable. You’d expect your two Champions League grade centre backs to be earning market rate. Walker expected market rate. He won the league.

Potentially exciting times – the first time I’ve genuinely felt that way since I don’t know when – but the devil is always in the detail and it so it will be fascinating to see what Daniel does next. Or is this a Trojan Horse for more of the same endless ‘building’ as ENIC scamper towards balancing the books?

For Dilly—Shelvey is full of fight but a thug. He is not worthy of wearing the chicken badge.

Agreed, I met him briefly at Melwood a few years back.

If he wasn’t playing football he’d be a doorman who liked thumping drunks for no reason.

      Not a nice man.

Playing in the championship. He did nowt in the premiership except get relegated.

One fundamental difference is that the local natives will probably confirm that he is a better player now than he was then and will be raging if he is sold on the cheap!
    Over and out.

    • caveman June 10, 2018 at 11:51 am

He might be a better player, but he’s simply not good enough for Spurs except that he’s full of shit about himself, just like Marcus Edwards that you shouted about all last season for a starting berth and where is he now, on his way up Tottenham High Road with his boots under his arm.
Shelvey and Grealish have been problem people and one thing Poch will insist on is good character. Neither of these players qualify on that basis alone.

  • Cabspur June 10, 2018 at 10:24 am

Just read on that hitc wank that Ericsson had a good game against Mexico[assist and goal] ,be nice to get him nailed down before the W.C starts.

      Very wistful name

  • Matt June 10, 2018 at 10:14 am

Re Toby, the assumption is he wants to stay and Poch wants him. Seems to me Toby wants to go to a “bigger club” (per the ITK on the previous blog) and that Poch is prepared to let him go and spend his cash elsewhere. Toby’s career before us was OK but not stellar (struggled at Atletico) so now he’s got that shot because of a season with us and wants out. This one may not be down to Levy.

    • dilly June 10, 2018 at 10:17 am

Fair point but IMO our defence looks stronger with Toby in the side than without him!

      • Matt June 10, 2018 at 10:21 am

+1. A fit Toby is class though he’s not not fit often enough for my liking.

        • Gus June 10, 2018 at 11:32 am

If we have more depth we can afford to rest him from time to time. Extend his career

  • Gloster1861 June 10, 2018 at 9:52 am

I see Tony Adams has been saying the Spurs contingent of the England team will be responsible for any failure in Russia.

Makes a change for the drunk driving expert to produce verbal puke instead of the normal vomit.

I wonder if he can tell us what he achieved in an England shirt, together with Semen in goal, and his other mates Dixon, Winteburn, Keown, Parlour etc etc?

    • dilly June 10, 2018 at 9:55 am

Whilst I think we shall do better than expected, on current form IMO one of Southgate’s baffling omissions is the omission of Jonjo Shelvey from the squad?

      • Matt June 10, 2018 at 9:58 am

I agree though it may be based on his extreme ugliness.

        • dilly June 10, 2018 at 10:00 am

As mentioned previously making him (Shelvey) captain we should sign both Shelvey and Grealish in the summer.

          • Matt June 10, 2018 at 10:07 am

Like shelvey; not convinced by Grealish. He’s nearly 23 and actually done very little; less than Winks. For example….

            • dilly June 10, 2018 at 10:12 am

Already talented, by Poch harnessing his skills plus surrounded by better players Grealish could come of age at Spurs but if Daniel thinks he can get Grealish on the cheap for an insulting derisory £15M forget it!!

              • Caveman June 10, 2018 at 10:18 am

Dilly, how come you are impressed by a shower of deadbeats?

                • dilly June 10, 2018 at 10:49 am

Why deadbeats? Grealish is direct and roll up your sleeves box to box spreading the ball around Shelvey is one for the trenches when when the going gets tough!

Disagree here as whilst both have had well documented attitude problems in the past they have both matured of late!!

                  • Caveman June 10, 2018 at 10:52 am

Grealish has never done anything in his football career except refused to wear shinpads.

  • Matt June 10, 2018 at 9:51 am

Two things make a business valuable; growth and profit. If you’re growing you can reduce or accept no profit. Look at or Twitter. Never posted a profit; worth £billions. We have to hope the additional money comes from Levy accepting a lower or negative profit based on growth value. He may well do, with the new stadium, commercial strategy etc.

    • Gloster1861 June 10, 2018 at 9:58 am

Has Levy ever issued any dividends from THFC, or the multiple other companies with TH in the name?

I know there are some posters on here who own a few of the minority shares that eluded ENIC, who hold 85.55%.

    Hi All
Returning home late from a great night out at the main Stratford Upon Avon Theatre us thespians myself and Joyce reflected upon witnessing one of the true greats of the theatre in all his pomp and glory. I am talking about the awesome Sir Antony Sher who fully deserved his standing ovation for an inspiring uplifting long memorable pulsating intense performance of King Lear. Reserved in the halcyon days for the 3 greats Sir Laurence Olivier, Sir John Guilguid and Sir Ralph Richardson plus Richard Burton standing ovations are rare these days but now we have been there when Sir Antony Sher has had two, previously a couple of years ago for his superb rendition of Willy Loman in Arthur Millers Death of a Salesman. The American tourist sitting besides us remarked at the end of the show that we have just witnessed a true genius and who could disagree. Unsurprisingly whilst the other actors all relatively pale into insignificance a lesser mortal the aimiable superb David Troughton (Archers) was equally impressive on the night. Comparable to the likes of a Dame Judy Dench big hitter Sir Antony has the wow factor. Top notch.
Our next production on the agenda on the 16 June is Macbeth. If only Sir Antony could be in all of them but he aint.

    • Lahdedah June 10, 2018 at 6:38 am

Dilly, I am jealous and full of envy. Stratford Upon Avon is beautiful in June. The RST never fails to impress. I just had a pang of homesickness.

      • dilly June 10, 2018 at 8:58 am

The only slight irritant is that being a traditionalist do I prefer the current theme of modern interpretation wearing new costume or old costume. Me old costume but by broadening it’s appeal it’s a sign of the times of always new costume.

    • Gloster1861 June 10, 2018 at 9:35 am

Glad you enjoyed it. Personally I can’t watch King Lear. Of all the Bard’s plays I think it is his foulest. It has scenes of gratuitous cruelty and viciousness. I’ve never understood why he plumbed the depths of depravity. It’s an odd one for me, which detracts from his greatness.

Levy has been stuffing money down the back of the sofa and in the cushions for 18 years now. It’s so stuffed now anyone sitting on it is banging their heads on the ceiling.

    Spurs aren’t poor.

  • John Bogle June 9, 2018 at 11:41 pm

Not too long ago, I posted a comment outlining the fact that Spurs are set to double their turnover from £200m in 2015/2016 to £400m in 2018/2019 season. So therefore could pay more than double wages to the key players and still have funds to recruit. The situation at Spurs will put us in a position to Cement our dominance over Arsenal for years to come. Both Arsenal and Chelsea have the problem of Russian ownership to contend with, so despite Tottenham having the Stadium to pay for, we do have Champions League football at this moment in time.

    • I had a gazza haircut June 9, 2018 at 11:53 pm

We are £1 billion pounds in debt after stadium… we are going to be skint however we look at it,
Don’t fall off the edge flat earther!

      • John Bogle June 10, 2018 at 12:07 am

Add up increased revenues from Nike– Tickets from Wembley Stadium– good run from exploits in the Champions League–more sponsors than we had in previous seasons— impending naming rights for our stadium. The list goes on and will get better in time. As regards to Trophies, the Tin cups aka FA and League cups will come as a bye product of our success.

        • gloster1861 June 10, 2018 at 12:12 am

Three CL runs in three seasons alone is worth 150 million. Harry and the others have financed their own pay rises. This isn’t Levy being generous, this is market rate.

          • I had a gazza haircut June 10, 2018 at 12:26 am

All this would make sense if we did have the new stadium debt hanging over the club…. all this sponsorship and cl money is far short of other clubs…

          • QQ June 10, 2018 at 11:03 am

This may well have happened, but you will not for certain until
the 2017-18 accounts are released next April. Which is far too long
for most ‘Justice against Levy’ warriors to go without being “triggered”
by anything and everything published about the club between now
            and then …

      • Aussie in Switzerland June 10, 2018 at 2:57 am

That won’t be enough to cover Levy’s next payrise

      • Will June 10, 2018 at 6:23 am

400 million in debt. That’s all the club borrowed. Plus interest

        • QQ June 10, 2018 at 10:56 am

Currently for the last financial year : 400m AVAILABLE, 150m TAKEN.

Until next April (2017-18 accounts) we have no idea how much of that
400m was taken in total, extra loans required etc. But fair to assume for
now that all of the 400m has been used.

      • Lord Croker June 10, 2018 at 9:15 am

Its a calculated risk with interest.

  • I had a gazza haircut June 9, 2018 at 11:34 pm

I just don’t understand what is going on…. has ENIC found a pile of cash behind the sofa? Are we just doing the same as arse*** did with Terry Henry? Pay up loads to talisman to keep him and appease the fans…. all the flat earthers are gonna be disappointed I think…..

  • Paddio June 9, 2018 at 11:27 pm

Sissoko is costing us nearly 11mill a season makes Harry seem a snip at 15mill.
Toby is a defender with deminishing sell on value after any new contract, plus defenders do get paid less, with the numbers banded around say he was offered around the 120kpw mark would still put him in the top band of defender wages. As a fan I’d want Toby to stay as he adds more value to the squad than just a good defender. But THFC is a business for Enic and business is business, this also means this could be the last contract extensions some players will get from us this summer (as you mentioned previously our squad are not getting younger)
