The Turks have taken him in.
“Our club has agreed a loan deal in principle for Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur and Holland national team striker Vincent Janssen,” read a Fenerbahce statement.
“The 23-year-old striker will arrive at Istanbul Ataturk Airport at 12.30pm today and negotiations will continue in Istanbul.”
As per Gladys’ recent pronouncements on the boy, Vincent Janssen wasn’t even making the grade in training. You sign for Tottenham Hotspur to train. That’s how the gaffer has it and if you don’t get your head around that then your stay with Mauricio will be a brief one.
Janssen’s record in Holland had been exemplary, yet he couldn’t convert to the rigours of a pressing Premier League outfit. His loss. You could argue that we had the same sob story with Bobby Soldado, but in fairness to the man, he looked doomed no matter how much effort he put in.
And that’s a point to reiterate at this juncture. Soldado was hugely well thought of inside the club during his less than blessed spell.
Janssen hasn’t rubbed anyone top the wrong way, he’s just not put the effort in. Fernando Llorente by contrast is locked, cocked and ready to rock. He might be 32 in his stocking feet, but he knows how to score.
At the end of the day it’s as Poch says, ‘It’s not easy to sign Llorente’s calibre of player’ and regrettably Vinny simply wasn’t of that calibre.
