There’s no doubt about it – I was right.

English football fundamentally doesn’t suit big stadiums.

The atmosphere at White Hart Lane and grounds like White Hart Lane may have its critics, but yesterday highlighted that Wembley is for finals and club stadiums are for league games.

Pochettino says that he believes the atmosphere at The Lane is good because the supporters know that it’s the last season in Haringey.

Mauricio said back in November: “‘It’s our responsibility to create the atmosphere, that says ‘okay, it’s an exciting thing to come here and play at Wembley but it will be tougher for you too to play against Tottenham, because you play against 90,000 supporters that are very excited and bring all of their energy to us’.

There’s gulf between the gaffer’s good intentions and what has actually happened.

In fact, the reverse has occurred. Visiting teams aren’t intimidated, they raise their game.

It’s also really difficult for fans to bring the same intensity a league game that would bring to a final.
