Two Tales & A Tap In

By The Boy -

The Mirror say we’ve sent scouts to watch Ben Yedder, or to give him his full name, Wissam Ben Yedder. Who is he? He’s Toulouse’s 23 year old striker who so far has scored 6 goals in 9 Ligue 1 games. In the past two seasons, he’s notched up a grand total of 31 league goals.

It would be unkind to call Yedder an uninspiring choice, primarily because I don’t think the provinance of any players is as important as whether Pochettino thinks they will fit the type of team that he wants to build.

Bild say that Spurs have also scouted Julian Weigl, a right sided midfielder who currently plies his trade for 1860 München, in 2. Bundesliga, which is the Second Division of professional football in Germany.

This seems a quare one. You’d think that an up and coming star would move to the top flight in his own country, rather than seek to step up his career abroad. Perhaps he’s moving over here anyway. Or perhaps his agent wants to buy his nan a bungalow.

The Yedlin to the rescue story may not be as much of a foregone conclusion as it might’ve first appeared.

Ham& High Broadway are asking if the Sounder’s secret weapon could be “the next Lewis Holtby?”, quoting the player talking to the MLS’s official website:

It depends on the situation. I think, if I’m still playing a lot with Seattle, then it’s something I have to think about, there’s no reason to have me go in.

Ultimately it comes down to what [Pochettino] wants. He’s making the decision on when I come. Obviously he has confidence in me but these guys have experience at this level.

It’s going to take me time to adjust. I’m not expecting to go in right away first day and start so, if I’m playing [here], there’s no reason to take me out of that environment.”

Which makes sense.
