The Mirror are running with what we’d all worked out some while ago – which is that Danny Rose will not be wearing a Manchester United shirt next season.
A combination of mental health issues, injuries and general daftness ended what was in truth a prolonged attempt by Rose to get himself poached by a bigger Premier League rival (as his close pal Kyle Walker had been).
Rose’s overtures were blunt and self defeating; leaving him marginalised and it may be here that we find a source of his turmoil.
Ben Davies did a better than admirable job as an understudy stepping out of the wing and if Rose is serious about competing for Spurs, then his first task is to prove he’s worth his starting place.
I’d like to see Rose given a chance, but for the umpteenth time, one wingback isn’t much use to anyone.
Question is, at his age will he have the willingness to both knuckle down and adapt?
Tottenham need all hands on deck ahead of a mother season of change.
Player retention appears to be under way, but one gets the feeling we’ll be seeing a lot of familiar faces next term.
