New dawn, or no new dawn? That is the question.

The answer to all questions is no more mediocrity (not winning) and trying to pass it off as achievement (winning).

The news broke this week that Poch is staying. Five more years will come as a welcome relief to smiley smiley chairman Daniel Levy after Mauricio appeared to cast doubt on his future at the end of the season. The gaffer challenged the club quite practically to match his own ambition. To take risks.

How much of departure from the Net Spend Nihilism we actually get remains to be seen.

All will be revealed not by talk but by deed in the transfer market.

I always said we would sign a marquee player for the stadium opening.
Maybe Bale will be that player.
Not sure where he would play…we have so many forwards.

If Bale signs it will difficult o buy a ticket for Tottenham.

  • ronwol196061 May 25, 2018 at 12:42 pm

Bale really is a luxury. We really need to spend on a CM. Its possible Poch thinks he could use Poch for his game which is all about the counter but we need another way to beat teams as well when the counter isnt on. So will Poch play him as a CM?

    • 89Spurs πŸ‘ May 25, 2018 at 12:47 pm

Ron, how many Pochettino are you going to play?
      Give Bale a game, please!

    • TopOfThePochs May 25, 2018 at 12:48 pm

Could he g in for Modric too, who’s recently said he regrets the way he left.
His experience would benefit this team. Modric would provide that pass and him with Eriksen would be class.
Winks could learn ALOT from him.

      • ronwol196061 May 25, 2018 at 12:50 pm

You cant teach that. You have to have an eye for it

        • TopOfThePochs May 25, 2018 at 12:57 pm

Cant teach it but you can learn from watching it and soaking up the experience to build your own. Winks would thrive playing with someone of Modrics quality.
Modric would be like when we bought in Davids to an extent.
I’d pay to watch Modric and Eriksen linking up in midfield.

If you were Bale and your leaving Madrid this summer where would you wanna go??
Manure and poison Jose’s anti football?
Why do we all think he won’t mind a pay cut? How much money does he need and why would he not put happiness before money πŸ’°πŸ’°??

    • Harry Hotspur May 25, 2018 at 12:39 pm

      ah bless x πŸ˜‚

    • TopOfThePochs May 25, 2018 at 12:54 pm

Bale may have to take a pay cut wherever he goes, a significant one is a different story.
His stock isn’t what it was.
However he has the remainder of his contract and would still command a large wage.
If anyone can work a way around it financially it’s Levy – that is if he doesn’t ostrisise everyone involved in the process.

The thing Spurs have financially say against other clubs is that Bales commercial stock would be higher at Spurs than anywhere else due to his history and standing with the club vs how his star has wained to everyone else the last two seasons or so.
I believed its achievable financially if Levy really is going to up the ante and IF Bale can negotiate a parting gift from Real.

Whether its a move that’d work for us on the football field is another matter – which is down to Poch and the medical staff.

      • chrism090861 May 25, 2018 at 1:11 pm

True.. But has anyone considered that he could negotiate a massive ‘Signing on Fee’ with us, then take a lower weekly salary??

        • TopOfThePochs May 25, 2018 at 2:18 pm

Like I say theres more than one way to break an egg.
Commercially Levy should be salivating at the prospect.
A team with Bale and Kane in is quite a commercial feast – a fit Bale in support would take Kane to another level.

If he could get players like Bale, Zaha, Sessegnon in with Moura then that pace we lacked last year would be back – frightening.

That’s a hell of a lot of stars aligning for that little lot to happen…

  • Randy Lee May 25, 2018 at 11:52 am

really not sure why people think a bale return is on the cards? am i missing something…

    • Wig May 25, 2018 at 12:05 pm

It’s thought that Spurs have first refusal on Bale should Real be open to sell. He has been in and out of the Real team (not helped by terrible injury record), and he is too valuable an asset to not be playing, so if Real decide they want someone else in the squad Bale would be looked at as one to cash in to make room

  • TopOfThePochs May 25, 2018 at 11:40 am

Most of those mentioned can do the proverbial ‘sling ya hook’

Bales obvious sticking point is that of MONEY.
No matter what his sentimentality is – he’s not going to do himself out of a large chunk f change – especially on his last big contract.
Could a season long loan with a price to buy be done?
Subsided wages with a signing on fee meeting us halfway?
    Adebayor-esque?

    Who knows!

However the moneys he’d hopefully bring in would help facilitate his wages.

He would be the big signing craved for in some quarters.

the real sticking point has got to be quite simply is he fit enough to endure the Premiership?

  • Wig May 25, 2018 at 11:35 am

Whilst we can debate the many pros and cons of Bale returning (costs, injury record, age etc), think what it would do to the rest of the spurs squad if we did bring back a player of his standing. It’s been an eternity since Spurs recruited an already world class player, and the rest of our players would surely take notice and think “wow, this club has some real ambition now”. Though probably at the same time as thinking “wow, how much is he earning? I want a new double-money contract”

    • TopOfThePochs May 25, 2018 at 11:43 am

I don’t think the money envy thing would kick in with Bales case.
The curt answer is – when you’ve won 3 (maybe 4) Champions Leagues come back to the table and we’ll be happy to talk…
The top players will be given better contracts I don’t doubt that. Its been the theme the last few years.
As we grow so do their earnings.

  • Caveman May 25, 2018 at 11:29 am

If we allow seriously good players to arrive, ready to hit the pitch playing, Poch has my vote to polish them into his system.

    • TopOfThePochs May 25, 2018 at 11:44 am
