To Dare Is To Don’t

You only know it’s real when you beat Arsenal. And Chelsea. And Manchester United – though I admit they aren’t much cop theses days and Mourinho’s on a downward spiral of his own volition: he’s so sharp he’s finally cut himself and he’s too clever by a game of two halves.

But enough of Chelsea and Mourin U. Unfortunately we have to measure ourselves, constantly, irrevocably, completely, illogically against the Shamsters from Woolwhich. And no good it does us. Let’s just get on and win the Premier League because if we do… when we do.. then who cares who’s second or third (as David Coleman would have said) or if Arsene Wenger is sacked.

But it’s starting to feel real, isn’t it? Only 3 goals against, all from set pieces, so far this season.

Only unbeaten side after the demolition of the Blue Mooners. And it was a demolition. (My Postman just said: “We were great in the first half but we didn’t do much in the second” Really?!

Perhaps he was thinking of England. Spurs supporters, eh?

In ’67 we thrashed Birmingham in the FA Cup quarter finals. On the way out an old stager said to me, “3 goals in the first ten minutes, 3 goals in the last ten: NOTHING in the middle!!!”

We – or at least I – couldn’t really enjoy the City game while it was happening ’cos there’s always the defensive error, the missed penalty, the late goal revival.

But re-living it, looking back on it, it was a complete demolition. They know it. Pepsi Guardicola knows it; Klopp-O’-the Kop knows it; Arsene knows it. Even Jack Wilshere knows it as he has a lazy smoke on the beach in Bournemouth.

Mourinho ought to know it but he doesn’t give a fuck cos h’e locked in a Rooney-vortex – do you know the way to the San, Jose?

And talking of ex-Chelsea mangers can I just give a shout out to Andre Villas-Boas, please, with his latest revelations in the press? You’re shit and you know you are…

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves … like we did at the end of last season. They say we’ve crept up under the radar. Can we stay there – under the radar? Probably not.

Some bright ex-Spurs player will go and interview El Pocho and put it on the BBC. So people are going to notice that we’re second. In the Premier League. One point behind Man City. Who we just dismantled.

El Pocho is building. He’s building for the future. Not just this season but THE FUTURE. He wants to dominate the league like our extraordinary front players dominated-by-pressing the defence of the top side in the division.

And he he can do it you know. ’Cos he’s magic, y’know. He can do it. He can. They can. We can.

To Dare is to Do. To Dare is to Don’t get hung up on finishing above the team that resides in Corbyn Country, with their shadow trophy cabinet.

It’s just a shame we made the appalling financially-led decision to play our CL games at the pressing-unfriendly, cramp-inducing, energy-sapping stadium they call Wembley.

But that’s another story. Or it will be when we try and win the league there next year. Look at West Ham.

So let’s just get on with believing that this year we can beat Arsenal…. sorry, I mean win the league.
