THFC XI v Manchester United

By The Boy -

Danger Man? For club and country in all competitions, Manchester United’s Alexis Sanchez has been directly involved in nine goals in his nine appearances at Wembley Stadium, scoring eight and assisting one.

Wembley Jitters? Manchester United have lost two of their last three matches at Wembley in all competitions (including this exact fixture last season), as many as they had in their last 15 at the ground (W8 D5 L2).

Ropey On The Road Man Utd have failed to score in 20% of their last 20 away games. The Red Devils have kept a clean sheet in 30% of their last 20 away games.

Manchester United have scored 1 goal or less in 8 of their last 20 away games, going on to win 1, draw 1 and lose 6 of these matches.

City Limits Manchester United have won just four of their last 17 away Premier League matches in London (D4 L9).

Lloris (C), Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies, Winks, Sissoko, Eriksen, Dele, Son, Kane.

I would’v given KWP the 2nd half since tripp was back to he’s self destruct mode and offered nothing forward and yes chasing 1-0 behind it wouldn’t be a bad idea in bringing liorente earlier on, he did make an impression in that small cameo in fairness to him.

Poch is a driven, decent football maniac who brings the best out of his players.

ENIC are dull venture capitalists with no place at a top football club employing people with such different aspirations to theirs.

Usually optimistic for Arsenal dilly – what’s happened? They’ve been dropped too

This United team haven’t put in a truly great performance since they brought in OGS – this was a great result, not performance. How long can the honeymoon last? I’m thinking Spurs just about hang onto 3rd place, the other three in the running are very up and down.

If Chelsea don’t sign a ‘ready to hit the ground running’ forward then I see them maybe dropping out for Arsenal or United. Anyway, that squad with their two best players injured (say Hazard and maybe Kante) – that wouldn’t be pretty.

Levy and ENIC do not speculate to accumulate, they just accumulate slowly at a glacial risk averse rate. Slow slow in fact that the world moves on and leaves them with defunct currency.

The NFL and lots of match day tat and booze to empty your wallet was still relevant in the early noughties, when this gaff was dreamt up…

I’m sorry but are you two completely deluded or what?? Why would you have thrown him on at HT Dilly? When will he score Mars? Aren’t you reading the facts, he has NEVER scored for us in the league when brought on as a substitute. Continually doing something and getting the same non result but continuing to do it in the hope the outcome will be different is the very definition of madness!

Cost of a stadium in what is one of the greatest city’s in the world was always going to be high. I think you give too much credit for anything being staged managed.
Walking in as champions to new stadium would sort a lot of sponsorship out and sales, but levy is like Gordon brown selling off our gold at the lowest price.

The only positive is the level of performance today would be enough to beat 11 or 12 teams in the league.

Mainly some uninspired finishing to blame here – along with United having their tails up and defending with intensity.

You want a team that can take it over the line you need leaders with character and experience and you need quality – that costs money.

SpursGoliath

Trippier is becoming a ‘luxury player’ though – wheeled out for five crosses and a few dead balls. To be fair he could have had a couple of assists today…but the other side of the equation is he’s a luxury player playing in our slightly lead footed rear guard.

Dont disagree. Which is why we need to sign both for long term contracts & mix them in with foyth & Sanchez depending on the opposition. Manu set up to play fast up front. But neither foyth or Sanchez has the positional awareness as toby & van. Plus Van’s first game back after 2 months. Put the speed of those two being taught by the other two……..we have our future in a few years

Our plan B, C and D relies on a 33 year old player who it can be shown beyond any shadow of a doubt has utterly failed by any metric you care to measure him by to be completely unable to do the job for which he collects seventy grand each and every week. He has never done it, he is never going to be do it. Just remember that.

There is just no ‘in fairness’ about it Dilly. He is an utter failure from start to finish from top to bottom, to keep him on and continue to pay him is utter madness. Any sensible business would have cut him, Jansenn and N’doodoo loose with a pay off long ago. Unless of course you’re ENIC and you need to preserve a particularly unpleasant illusion.

It’s all about expectation management, it’s all being stage managed. Levy isn’t interested in the title, if we win the title with no home ground where’s the justification for 1bn of stadium debt?

The whole stadium thing was based around selling a dream to the fans and it was regular Champions League, Poch has delivered that early so the excuses for the stadium shenanigans have almost run out.

Win the title and there are no excuses left…

When will people realise that this team has so much but cant cross the line when they are exhuasted. All of this is down to ENIC. No new signings – and all of this in the blatant lying about the stadium. Fraud, blatant fraud. Who is going to lead the team up front now? Shall we bring that dutch bloke back? Him and Llorente in the league and just Llorente in the champions league. Fuck all of it.

In fairness LLorente was Swans top scorer before he joined Spurs. The fact that he his not suited to our style of play is another story following the likes of Jannsenn and Soldado to have failed to make the grade.
So why not select our starlet Troy Parrott to the first team???

Injuries happen and all teams have key players but it’s the paper thin cover we have and the lack of midfield options.

It’s chronic, but then again if you have owners that would much rather prefer it that you finished a distant 4th than ever entertain the notion that we could win the league, what do you expect?

They rode their luck, they are ‘in a good moment’ as every foreign manager in the league would have it, and they toughed it out.

Really, on the balance of chances and play, we coulda/shoulda edged the game – I see it as the opposite of the Chelsea performance. We were like Chelsea in this game – and we praised Chelsea in the mid week…so we shouldn’t totally destroy the team for this one.

Officially out of the title race/in the mix up for top four again. Ah well. Cups are now the best chance of glory this season…as we all secretly expected from this headfook of a season at Wembley.
