The Wembley Delusion

By The Boy -

My evidence based prediction is that unless Spurs do something rather breathtaking in the transfer market this summer, Wembley will be a disaster.

Even Jermaine Jenas understands the size of the problem: ‘I’d back Spurs for the title – if they were staying at White Hart Lane’.

Here are selection of unintentionally hilarious comments from some first rate clowns on Spurs Community…

“I think it took us a few games to get used to Wembley, but you could see in the semifinal that we weren’t overawed by it anymore. I expect a lot of the visiting teams will suffer from nerves, especially with 90% of the fans cheering us on.”

Er… we’ve lost most of our games there. Chelsea thumped us 4-2 and didn’t our fans bail early even when the tickets were only a fiver?

“There is a chance that other teams get overawed by the occasion, rather than us. Teams that usually come to sit in and try to frustrate, may try to play more in order to get a famous win. That could work massively in our favour.”

Er… yeah, this makes a world of sense. I can see team after team rocking up to Wembley and sh*tting themselves in awe of the occasion.

“Poch wants the title next season, the players want the title next season, we need to be a bit more confident and bullish as fans.”

Oh, I get it. All we have to do is cross our fingers really really hard and shout huzzah at an annoyingly loud volume.

“I think we’ll be fine, eventually. This team has overcome many hurdles before. In the long run it will really work to our advantage in cup finals knowing that we’ve played there so often.”

Hahaha, what finals?

“I see no reason for us to not continue our great form tbh – we should be aiming for top 4 at least and a cup win.”

That makes sense if you’ve been sectioned.

“We’ll be up there. And I do expect us to win the league. The teams ready and the teams good enough. End of.”

Ah the world famous ‘End of.’ Mate, your tinfoil hat needs straightening.

“Starting to think there’s no reason why we can’t do it now at Wembley. It didn’t seem to affect us against Chelsea so why not if we get a couple of players in? We’ve got amazing players and a top manager. A good start will be more crucial than ever though.”

What planet is this moron on?

I’d be interested to hear anyone compose a credible* explanation as to how Wembley won’t be a disaster.

*By credible, you’ll probably want to avoid incorporating hopes, dreams, Spiderman or the Wombles Of Wimbledon Common in your reasoning.
