The Daily Mail Nail It

By The Boy -

Good afternoon fight fans.

Let’s start with this piffle from The Daily Mail.

I’ve read it twice, just win case I suffered a stroke in the night and the problem actually lies with me.

But no. Spurs are preparing to break the bank for when they have to renew Dele Alli’s contract which expires in 6 years time.

There then follows some mumbo jumbo (500 words or so about our wage ceiling, with the conclusion being that if we stay in Europe and secure lots of sponsorship cash, then we’ll be able to retain the services of our best players.

6 years is a long time in show business.

What I’m saying here is that you don’t build a successful team by threatening to eventually reward them financially.

At this point, some of you will adopt the foetal position under your kitchen table whilst screaming ‘what the hell are we supposed to do?!!!’

Footballers are here for a good time, not a long time.

There are exceptions of course, and it’s no surprise that THFC has been a magnet for cash limpets. Huddlestone, Jeans, Lennon, Adebayor, Benny The Racist (this is not an exhaustive list).

The ‘trick’ is to create a scenario whereby your players are so proud/happy playing for you that they become reluctant to leave.

Players in great sides tend not to be in a hurry to scatter into the four winds.

Again, the ridiculously notable exception was at THFC, when we won our single trophy under Levy. That team dissolved quicker than an own brand digestive in a cup of hot tea. There were players calling their agents wanting to cash in, cut and and run on the coach as it pulled out of Wembley.

So here I am once more in the playground of the broken hearts… telling you that we are simply hoping, wishing, praying that someone can both improve the squad we have (because there are zero exciting signings on the horizon) and then retain their services.

Right now, Levy is banking upon this squad to tread water.

Is he not banking upon it improving? Absolutely not, that defies logic. That’s like going into a casino with the belief that you can beat the House and that thought would never cross Daniel’s mind in a million years.

And so the idea that Levy would give someone else his money to play at the casino on his behalf is beyond ridiculous. Just ask Paul Mitchell.

So it dawns on me what the Daily Mail bless ’em have unwittingly stumbled upon here  , is the Levy recipe. One that has yet to produce a decent meal…

While we wait to see how things pan out, across London Chelsea have prepared a team that is more than fit to play both at Wembley and in a 60,000 seater Stamford Bridge.
