ENIC’s Soul Harvesting Device or The New Destination™ as branding supremo Daniel Levy prefers it to be known, may have claimed another victim.
Toby Alderweireld’s latest quotes are in full with the Telegraph:
Asked if he could stay at Tottenham, Alderweireld said: “Yeah, why not? I have two years left on my contract. I don’t know what is going to happen. I have been in the Premier League for four years and something is different with England now. They are young lads, there is a lot of desire.”
Whilst this is less than a ringing endorsement of Tottenham, ‘why not?’ is more positive than ‘I don’t know’ or ‘no comment’.
In fact for those who thrive on hope, this is manna from heaven.
Has Toby and his father who represents him been bad people?
It’s difficult to complain about someone’s moral compass being broken when you’re in a den of thieves.
Nobody could have predicted that ENIC would begin doubling player wages, yet for whatever reason (it was not out of kindness) they have – and Spurs would do we’ll to pour oil over any troubled waters and embrace one of best players wanting to stay.
Anyone who thought replacing him with an 18 year old with just one full season behind him may leave the room quietly.
