Home » That Good Vibe

While Bonzo and Danny Rose are receiving plaudits for their improvement, lest we forget this season’s latest superstar at The Lane, a bloke by the name of Mousa Dembélé.

“Sometimes it is more difficult to do that for these games than the ones like on Sunday against Chelsea. Nobody had to give a speech to get us up for that. But we have to remember all the games in the Premier League are difficult.

“It does not matter whether they are the big clubs or the ‘smaller’ ones. As we have seen, anyone can win against anyone. We have a lot of respect for everyone but we know we must win the games against the ‘smaller’ clubs if we are to achieve our ambition of finishing high in the league. We cannot underestimate anyone, but I have every confidence we are going to be sharp. We are a big group with a lot of qualities. Maybe in the past it was different. But at the moment, if somebody is not at his best, anybody can come in and play.”

“I think we are accomplished enough to say now we can win any game. If we have the same mentality we have now, of course we can. We want to end up first but I don’t try to think that far ahead.

The next game is important and then after that every week will be a challenge. Before, maybe, we might have been happy to draw with Chelsea but now we are disappointed, and that is a positive thing.

We have grown so much in so many different departments and we know we could have beaten Chelsea. But it wasn’t a negative day. There is such a positive vibe in the group. It is very important now to continue that good vibe.”

Spending on agents rises as Premier League clubs approach £130million in fees

Premier League clubs paid out nearly £130million to agents last year – a £15million increase on the year before.

Liverpool spent the most of any club, £14.3million, followed by Manchester United (£13.8m) and Manchester City (£12.4m) with the total reaching £129.86million for the year ending September 30. Chelsea and Arsenal both spent £11.9million while at the other end of the scale newcomers Watford spent £1.6million.

The total spent in the Championship was £26.1million, £3.2million in League One and just £1million in League Two.

Fees are not just paid to agents when transfers happen, but also when players sign new contracts.

During the period in question, there were 172 inbound transfers and loans in the Premier League, 542 new or improved contracts and 573 outbound transfers and loans – a total of 1,287 transactions, all of which could have led to an agent’s fee being paid.

The biggest payers in the Championship were Cardiff (£2.8m), Fulham (£2.7m), QPR and Reading (both £2.3m).

Further down the pyramid, League One club Bury and League Two’s Accrington Stanley Hartlepool did not pay anything at all in to agents.

Well done them.
