Tonight’s game isn’t the be all and end all of this completion, let alone this season, however it would be frankly nuts for the mental wellbeing of all concerned if we lost another yet game. On top of which, it would undo all the good work of the earlier and arguably tougher tie in Spain if Spurs took this game less than seriously.

A late fitness test for the boy Kane, Lamela is still wrestling with his identity and Victor Wanyama is suddenly listed as having no return date.

This is the best starting XI to my mind, the only hesitation I had was over not selecting Winks, which reflects the fact I’ve gone for the XI I think Poch will chose.

I wouldn’t have selected Dele or Dier by the way, but the pair appear undroppable.

Elsewhere, Sergio Ramos has called on Real Madrid to stick together and share the blame for poor performances collectively rather than individually.

Zinedine Zidane’s side’s defeat at Girona on Sunday left them floundering in the title race as they drifted eight points off league leaders Barcelona.

“Nobody is to blame,” Ramos said. “Everybody can do more, that is always the case. When you win, you do that as a team and it is the same when you lose. Had we have taken our chances in the first half it would have been a different game but maybe our intensity did drop.”

We lost on weekend 1-0 real lost on weekend 2-1 which is the same score of 1-0 in other words, who will continue to lose? both teams have same points same goals in CL and both lost their domestic leagues same ratio of goals mind boggoling?

Team for Tonight? It won’t be the A Team.

  • gloster1861 November 1, 2017 at 6:29 pm

Dilly, remember in addition to the double, we were the first club to win European silverware. Also I believe we were the first to win a second European trophy.

    • gloster1861 November 1, 2017 at 6:32 pm

Sadly we were robbed of the European Cup by a bent Russian referee in 62.

      • David Dillenberg November 1, 2017 at 6:36 pm

Totally unconnected but Tony Galvin has a Degree in Russian!

  • David Dillenberg November 1, 2017 at 6:28 pm

Cautionary note: Presumably lashed by the spannish press, having lost to minnows the weekend and 8pts behind Barcelona in La Liga we are playing a wounded animal this eve.

    • gloster1861 November 1, 2017 at 6:30 pm

Or do they need to concentrate on La Liga?

      • David Dillenberg November 1, 2017 at 6:32 pm

Yes but cut adrift from Barca in La Liga will take some catching. Hence prioritising the CL.

    • SpurAndy 🍒π November 1, 2017 at 6:38 pm

A wounded animal doesn’t always return to health straight away. Getting back to form is easier said than done, it’s not like turning a tap on and off. I think we’ve got a better chance after their last loss than before.

      • David Dillenberg November 1, 2017 at 6:42 pm

Agreed and think we shall quickly detect from the early exchanges RM mood!

  • caveman November 1, 2017 at 6:12 pm

The Sky and BBC better get used to Spurs being a big club again because we’re here to stay. Never mind trying to belittle the club by attempting to sell our best players, just fucking ccept that we’re here on merit and we’re not going away.

    • David Dillenberg November 1, 2017 at 6:18 pm

Being the first team to win the double Spurs are and will always be a big club. End of.

      • David Dillenberg November 1, 2017 at 6:23 pm

If the lads can replicate the tempo of the first 20 mins we played against Liverpool when a similar performance is required against RM this eve, this will be one exciting match.

      • MiT November 1, 2017 at 6:23 pm

They lost their way and have had a few false dawns since then, but the history is certainly there.

    • MiT November 1, 2017 at 6:20 pm

      +1

I think this is the real dawn as well, Caveman. Kane and Lloris seem to lead a core of players who truly play in the interest of building into winners for the badge. A few may leave for big bucks here and there, but Kane will continue to stretch the fabric of the existing wage structure enough to keep the core into the cause.

  • MiT November 1, 2017 at 6:10 pm

Poxy, Antspurs, Happy Birthday to you fellas, and best wishes for many more.

  • Mad Carew November 1, 2017 at 6:02 pm

Some people in the far flung corners of the World had never heard of Harry Winks before tonight.

  • gloster1861 November 1, 2017 at 5:57 pm

Tonight should be a celebration of mixing with the footballing elite again. As we are constantly being told by the media, our best players should be playing in the CL for a big club. Well, tonight proves they already are.

    • MiT November 1, 2017 at 6:03 pm

  • Jean Victor de Silva November 1, 2017 at 5:38 pm

I don’t think he will pick Dier over Winks. Winks is the better midfielder. Dembele may be the man out. I am just amazed at Winks’ passing and forward movement. IMHO he must be on the field.

    • caveman November 1, 2017 at 6:09 pm

Agreed but he must pass the ball faster to become really dangerous.

    • Yiddo November 1, 2017 at 6:21 pm

IMHO, I am yet to see anything from Winks that has lead to me expecting him to be a better player than any of our previous young stars in that position. I.e Bentaleb, Livermore, Mason.
He does seem to be very mature though, who knows, maybe we won’t just sell him on for 15 mil to Burnley or Watford or whoever in a couple years time.

What would Trump do.Make Tottenham Great Again .I say go for Victory not the draw

  • Not a Real Fan. November 1, 2017 at 5:21 pm

Giving up possessionwhej we are wide open will kill us in this game. Wonder if Poch will play it quite cautious, so no pressing with a high line, hit them in the break, a little bit like 2 weeks ago in Madrid.

    • Not a Real Fan. November 1, 2017 at 5:22 pm

      *when

    • gloster1861 November 1, 2017 at 5:52 pm

That will only work with Kane playing. Can’t see the others scoring on the break.

  • AntSpurs November 1, 2017 at 5:21 pm

Afternoon you wonderful lot, thank you for all your kind words and birthday wishes, much appreciated. Just heard my sis has a little girl today – what’s the chances. Another yid on the scene. • Yiddo November 1, 2017 at 5:06 pm

My team would be: Hugo, Serge, Toby, Sanchez, Jan, Davies, Dembele, Winks, Son, Christian, Kane.
Bench: Sissoko, Tripps, Rose, Dier, Dele, Llorente.

  • Mad Carew November 1, 2017 at 5:03 pm

    Tottenham U19 3-2 Real Madrid U19
Edwards scored our second (47mins) to go 2-1 in front, Calderon equalised but Sterling grabbed the winner for Spurs.
    Hopefully a good omen…..COYS
Oh and Real Madrid have never played at Wembley !

    • Yiddo November 1, 2017 at 5:11 pm

Edwards is clearly superman. Surely he needs no time to recover and can comfortably slot in to tonight’s team as well. If only we had 11 of him, we’d be the best team in the world…

    • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? November 1, 2017 at 5:29 pm

      Calderon. Ramon’s Grandson?

  • Yiddo November 1, 2017 at 5:02 pm

Can’t see Rose starting. I’d have anyone or anything over Dier and Dele. Dier is by far the weakest link of our team, even after taking Sissoko and Dele into account.
Got to feel bad for Son; he’s been amazing in the CL and he’s to be dropped for someone I can already visualise pathetically attempting to school Ramos instead of playing the shrewd pass that would unlock the defence for Kane.

    • gloster1861 November 1, 2017 at 5:54 pm

Dier worse than Sissoko? You cannot be serious!

    • MiT November 1, 2017 at 6:09 pm

I think Dier is just the Scapegoat flavour of the month. This fickle group will choose another soon enough.

      • Yiddo November 1, 2017 at 6:15 pm

He’s been my flavour of the month ever since we signed Wanyama, I fail to see what the fuss is about. Ok he’s passionate and hard working. Well so am I. Doesn’t mean I can play football.
With regards to Dele, I never jumped on a bandwagon, I’ve been calling him an exciting fraud for months.
I’d love for them both to prove me wrong!

        • MiT November 1, 2017 at 6:40 pm

Wanyama is one who can hold the defensive fabric in place by himself in the DM. Spurs miss him right now offensively as well, as more players can surge forward with him in.

Dier is fiery and versatile. He has served Spurs well in several spots of need, and he has an intensity within his mantra of taking no crap from the opposition that IMO spread throughout a squad that was once frail in that regard.

Dele Alli pushes the squad in the technical department. He is technically very strong, and is slowly discovering that he can continue to get better. Spurs have become much more clinical in finishing, due in no small part to being pushed in training by Dele’s natural ability. He’s young at heart and in age, and will sometimes err in stubborn habits, but Dele is a thinker and a lockpicker, and is vital to Spurs’ growth as a squad.

          • Yiddo November 1, 2017 at 6:55 pm

Well argued. I could probably be a little more optimistic, but I maintain that they are not the future of our team.

  • WitTank November 1, 2017 at 5:01 pm

Pretty much pick that side except Davies for Rose as He is not quite upto speed yet.
I’d also have Son instead of Ali

  • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? November 1, 2017 at 4:54 pm

    Marcus Edwards?

    In goal?

  • Willie! November 1, 2017 at 4:46 pm

I’d sit “but what does he actually DO?” Dier on the bench, and play a Mousa-Moussa pairing in mf.

  • Aussie in Switzerland November 1, 2017 at 4:44 pm

Play Llorente, same as we did in Madrid

  • Mad Carew November 1, 2017 at 4:28 pm

Davies in place of 5 Bellies, we can draw this.
Game is live on RTE 2/BT Sport 2

  • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? November 1, 2017 at 4:21 pm

That’s a good strong ,well balanced team. The problem, as always, is options off the bench should we need to change things.

    • Totspurs November 1, 2017 at 4:24 pm

Dembele Llorente Winks Aurier few decent options off the bench id say!

      • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? November 1, 2017 at 4:28 pm

H had Mousa and Andre 3000 starting. Winks, as much as I want him too, is not going to cone on and grab a match by the scruff of the neck. Son of the bench is OK but we lack quality. Real game changers. Llorente? Come on now….

        • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? November 1, 2017 at 4:29 pm

          *not going to come on

        • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? November 1, 2017 at 4:34 pm

          We need Lamela available.

  • Totspurs November 1, 2017 at 4:19 pm

    —————–Loris—————–
    ——Toby–Sanchez—Jan——-
    Tripps–Eriksen-Dier–Alli–Rose

would be my starting 11 nothing to lose lets go for at them

  • BARD November 1, 2017 at 4:16 pm

Son needs to play – we need the threat of pace.

  • FGZ November 1, 2017 at 4:15 pm

    Son starts for me.

  • richspurs November 1, 2017 at 4:13 pm
