Stop Twitching & Get Spending, Sunshine

“Today marks yet another historic milestone in our continued progress to deliver our world-class new stadium,” …Levy told the club’s official website.

“It is also a sombre occasion upon which the club formally hands over its home of 118 years – one filled with so many special memories.”

One man who isn’t feeling the chairman’s vibe is Bonzo. The Daily Mail (among many) have Manchester City as the club tipped to sign the only creature ever born to a human and a sea-lion.

Should Walker quit, then it will be interesting to see what Levy does in terms of reinvesting what will be a sizeable lump of cash.

Trippier is a more than able alternative, but the squad is light light light.

For Levy to begin what is likely to be a volatile period mumbling about escalated stadium costs and simply trouser the loot would be the opposite of the right thing this to do.

Mousa Dembele is 48 next birthday and Son is a flake. Those are two immediate areas of concern that aren’t up for discussion.

Anyone believing that we can afford to stand still in terms of squad acquisitions is nuts. Anyone thinking that rival sides will also stand still is double nuts with raspberry sauce on top.

Why highlight this particular situation? Because all the elements coincide against Levy doing nothing. The summer window is ahead of us. Wembley is a pig. We finished second and all eyes are on compounding that, not viewing it as a one – off.

Stop twitching and get spending, sunshine.

I’ve just had a look back at Arcane’s recent contributions and it had escaped my short term memory that there had been a scuffle over politics the other week.

The only blessing from today’s outburst was it was brief.

It was pretty dickhead-like to tell us we weren’t;t getting a link to an ink tale. But I’ve seen worse crimes committed online.

Arcane’s got a busy few weeks ahead of him now, delivering leaflets for the Green Party.

Read somewhere that Paul said being around the festivities wouldn’t help him. Steve Perryman had to attend an Exeter playoff game. Jurgen Klinsman appeared at Tottenham, Arsenal derby game. One person, whose name cannot be spoken by Spurs fans ,did not get an invitation, but Sky Andrews his ex agent still had a go at Spurs on his behalf. I suppose loads of people could have been invited but the line had to be drawn somewhere. But the big miss to me was Gareth Bale. Gary Lineker sent his best regards, but I saw nothing from Bale. Maybe somebody saw a tweet. I’m not aware of any bad feeling. Strange. Oh, and Bill Nicholson’s family were represented.

In yesterday’s Daily Telegraph there are photos of the blue seats that have been removed and stacked at the side of the pitch awaiting delivery to their purchasers. Large parts of the turf have been cut away, and the turf is going into boxes of gin for sale to the box owners, corporate mob I take it. The photos are probably still on the online site if you can stand seeing the dismemberment .

  • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? May 16, 2017 at 4:11 pm

Did I hear it right? Guardiola has called city a small club?….not only has he woefully underachieved to the point of failure with the best squad and embarrassment of resources and proved himself to be a myth, made a ludicrous decision with the goalkeepers which he still defends, now he’s taking swipes at the club who pays him a kings wage to bring them success. Wow. That worked out city didn’t it?😮

    • McG ⚽⚽ May 16, 2017 at 4:59 pm

Maybe Walks will have second thoughts..

      • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? May 16, 2017 at 5:09 pm

Well, he’s a defender so he’ll get zero coaching/progress under that overrated jackass….

      • MiT May 16, 2017 at 5:41 pm

He is going, as long as Levy tactics don’t allow the deal to string out for too long, pushing City to sign someone else. That would be a disaster.

That deal won’t be done as long as United is showing her garters. This is Levy, after all.

Think about it. Walker couldn’t get much above 75k a week at Spurs without upsetting the balance within the other recent extensions. He would at best share time with Trippier as tactics dictate.

However, he could get well above the 100k/wk mark at City, with Sagne to compete. City will definitely designate a number 1 and a number 2.

He and Poch both understood this after both expressed the situation to the other with candor and honesty. Otherwise, Pochettino would not have called upon Walker since then as both a starter and as a sub. That’s not Pochettino’s history at all with a player at odds.

International play does allow players to make introductions and have conversations they normally would not.

        • McG ⚽⚽ May 16, 2017 at 6:13 pm

We could afford to bring him up to around 90k, if that’s what we pay Sissy. He’s served us for long enough, established himself as poss the top RB in the prem, but I think that’s blown out the water by his behaviour. Also, Poch may see the payday & using that to strengthen as more beneficial. We’ll see soon enough…

          • MiT May 16, 2017 at 6:31 pm

            What behaviour ?

He should have just saved the whole episode for end of season, not brought it up during a title run in was my main issue.

      • David Dillenberg May 16, 2017 at 6:11 pm

Unlikely as I suspect a deal for Walker is already done and we are simply going through the motions before an official announcement actually made.

    • David Dillenberg May 16, 2017 at 5:43 pm

What Guardiola actually said is that he would have been sacked at a “big club” like former teams Barcelona and Bayern Munich if he had ended a season without a trophy. Clearly he is skirting on thin ice!

      • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? May 16, 2017 at 5:46 pm

    Ian Brady DEAD.

I remember reading about ‘The Moors Murderers’ in the newspaper as an 11/12 year old. The details published (toned down for decency, no doubt) affected me deeply. I cried my eyes out; sobbing for hours. That was probably the first time I was exposed to just how wicked some people can be.

The authorities still don’t know where the last child was buried.

    • Gloster1861 May 16, 2017 at 3:34 pm

    Arcane

My phlegm is all still in my possession. If you want to have a go at me H, then come out in the open with it. Don’t just snipe. What decision do you want to make, may I ask?

    No sniping, dick head.

If there’s something to share, then fucking share it.

How complicated do you want to make this?

The decision is (you may ask, thank you for asking) for READERS to make.

    • Arcane May 16, 2017 at 2:24 pm

I wish someone could indeed explain wtf Is bothering you so much that you choose to make this grounds for calling me dick head. But if you’re just inviting the usual gang to cheer you on, then you needn’t repeat yourself. They don’t need that much encouragement.

The ‘decision’ as to whether you need to take the itk seriously? This was described clearly as 3rd hand itk, with no more substance behind it than that could ever have. I was clearly making no claims about it – just offering thoughts on it as a possible scenario. And would of course have offered the link if available.

I trust the readers here to have enough sense to understand that and not feel the need to make any decisions on unsubstantiated itk.

I’m not going to flatter your ego with reciprocal insults. It is what it is.

      • Harry Hotspur May 16, 2017 at 2:34 pm

You’re deliberately missing the point and seeking to obfuscate by throwing too many words into your response.

You proffered a (still) unknown source and when asked to share so we could make our minds up you unilaterally declared that ‘no decisions’ were required.

The link was/still is available, its you that cannot be bothered to go fetch it.

ALL its is unsubstantiated, however people are entitled to know where at the very least the ink has come from, be it here, Spur Community or elsewhere.

I withdraw calling you a dickhead and instead wish to now call you a pompous dickhead.

        • Arcane May 16, 2017 at 2:50 pm

Well I think that’s enough of that. Thank you – at last a coherent reply and pompous dickhead is much more agreeable to me – there’s at least a grain of truth in that.

          • Harry Hotspur May 16, 2017 at 3:42 pm

Next time you find something you don’t want share – don’t share it with the apes on Spurs Community – and give this place a miss.

  • richspurs May 16, 2017 at 2:05 pm

I think we have enough creativity in young Winks and Erikson, even Wayams is using the outside of his boot nowadays, to brilliant effect. Any new players we bring in must be able to complement them, fill in the gaps, provide long term leadership, play cerebrally (new word), know when to slow down, step up, kick the opposition, change tactics whenever necessary, on the pitch, not next game!!! I like the idea of the Sanchez type player.

    • AccringtonSpurs May 16, 2017 at 2:32 pm

The way I see it, Sissy, Janssen and Nkoudou should all go. we haven’t got time to wait for them to come good if we are talking about us being a good club. we’re arriving. we need decent players on the bench. That applies to Onomah too. So really, that’s four in attack that need replacing.

      Bring in four decent attackers.

3 from Klaassen, Barkley? Zaha, Lanzini, plus a striker.

      Sell Lamela next January 😉

  • ronwol196061🇨🇦 May 16, 2017 at 1:51 pm

We need a creative force in midfield
I would say an improvement on Dembele and we need Eriksen to be more into the game.More focused.
The corners tell you something about his persona.
I bet he takes fantastic corners during practices. He needs to get past this and get his energy into the game more for longer periods.

These two spots are critical for succee especially at Wembley

    • Gloster1861 May 16, 2017 at 1:56 pm

You haven’t mentioned leverage for a while. Will Poch get the funds for another AM who can compete and push Eriksen? Could be the answer.

      • ronwol196061🇨🇦 May 16, 2017 at 2:00 pm

I think a player who can create from deep would be the answer instead of Dembele.
Then Eriksen will also be ubder pressure as Lamela,Dele and Son will all be fighting with Eriksen for 2 positions

        • Arcane May 16, 2017 at 2:06 pm

Seri please. He fits the bill I think.

      • Gloster1861 May 16, 2017 at 2:01 pm

I have previously hoped we get Klaasen from Ajax. We’ll see him in the Ropey final and also Dolberg who I am hoping will rip United a new one.

        • ronwol196061🇨🇦 May 16, 2017 at 2:04 pm

          Havent watched Klassen yet
          A ‘Fabregas’ type creative player

          • Caspurs♿️ May 16, 2017 at 2:04 pm

            He’s not that.

    • David Dillenberg May 16, 2017 at 2:02 pm

Ron what Spurs need is a Griezman but he wont be joining nor will be shelling out £50M- £100M for such creative midfielders we urgently require post Modric resulting in our securing a £10M player or our scouting network scouring the lower visions for the next Alli 9s)

      • David Dillenberg May 16, 2017 at 2:03 pm

        *divisions

      • ronwol196061🇨🇦 May 16, 2017 at 2:05 pm

He is a mobile striker..no space for him

  • ronwol196061🇨🇦 May 16, 2017 at 1:12 pm

In 1962 Ipswich won the league with Alf Ramsey after coming up from the 2nd division.

They employed their two wingers as creative players
So when we player them in the Community Shield Nicholson had Mackay and Blanchflower (probably Blanflowers idea) to mark the wingers instead of the backs doing it

    We killed them

    • Gloster1861 May 16, 2017 at 1:15 pm

Is that why Alf Ramsey went off the idea of using wingers? Interesting. England were called the wingless wonders in 66 I believe.

      • ronwol196061🇨🇦 May 16, 2017 at 1:46 pm

I didnt add those two things up
But he did use his wingers (Jimmy Leadbetter was one)as the creative players.
So maybe it was a forerunner of the 66 style.

  • McG ⚽⚽ May 16, 2017 at 1:03 pm

A quick analysis of our squad (taken from who scored.com):

    Sticks:
    Hugo – 6.76
    Vorm – 6.52

    Defence:
    Rose – 7.35
    Davies – 7.05
    Verts – 7.32
    Jugs – 6.97
    Wimmer – 6.84 (2015/16)
    Walker – 7.18
Tripps – 6.88 (7.15 in final season with Burnley)

    Midfield:
    Dembele – 7.15
    Dier – 6.87
    Wanyama – 7.12
    Alli – 7.12
    Eriksen – 7.42
    Son – 6.91
    Lamela – 7.15 (2015/16)
    Sissoko – 6.42
    Winks – 6.42
Voodoo – 6.29 based on 136 mins played (7.38, 9 goals 5 assists for Marseille)

    Attack:
    Kane – 7.39
    Vincent – 6.29

    (21 first teamers in total)

I’d call this is out first team squad, we can also add:
    Edwards
    On&on
    CCV
    Pao Lopez
    Kyle Walker Mk2

I’m pretty certain you will not find a team with better averaged Goalkeepers, Defenders or Midfield. The only area that lets us down is backup to Kane.

Secondly, we are not light in any area other than attack. We have 7 top midfielders, 10 in total. Our three lowest points scoring midfielders include Winks, Sissoko & Voodoo (who’s played less than two full games). So, we blew 30 mil on our worst midfield player, & Winks with equal points should still be starting for us according to some?!
Tripper’s rating over a full season with Burnley is encouraging, but if Walker goes, we still need a pacey RB to compliment.

Have rid of Sissy, bring in one major player & thats midfield taken care of. Attack, we need an additonal striker who’s happy to sit most of the season on the bench. So that’s two players required, three if Walker goes.

We are not light in terms of squad depth, we just suffered quite a few injuries to key players at key moments in the season. This cost us the title, & progression in the CL is closer to the truth.

    Some Comparables:
    De Gea – 6.53
    Bailly – 7.12
    Luiz – 7.13
    Cahill – 7.07
    Hazard – 7.81
    Sanchez – 7.74
    Kante – 7.20
    Lukaku – 7.44
    Costa – 7.43

    • Spursy May 16, 2017 at 2:24 pm

      Nice one😉

  • BARD May 16, 2017 at 12:45 pm

    2 other observations of late.
    1) A fit Dembele is key. He’s not getting any younger and his sheer size will increasingly keep him on the treatment table. We have no replacement and we look a weaker team with him out.
    2) What to do with a problem like Eric Dier. Dele’s bestie has been poor for a while. His versatility is counting against him. He was fabulous alongside Dembele last season but looks less so with Wanyama and is fallible in a back 4 or 5. Whisper it quietly but unless he find form again and if the money is right …….

    • mattspurs May 16, 2017 at 12:59 pm

Dier? He’s been key to the way we play this season. He can move position during a game and change our whole formation – he’s played 41 bloody games in our best season in years!

      • Arcane May 16, 2017 at 1:06 pm

Good point, but I suspect Keane would improve us in a back 3, and may actually have the same degree of flexibility, and be developed to play exactly the same role. Probably not Maguire though.

        • mattspurs May 16, 2017 at 3:06 pm

Dier makes us fluid – he’s so bloody key to what we’ve achieved this season and last.
Dier has played 92 games over the last 2 seasons! Mr Consistent. Selling him would be so stupid.

    • Arcane May 16, 2017 at 1:01 pm

Dier’s a great squad asset, and our best option if wham gets injured, but if offered 40m and confident of securing a suitable replacement who’d actually strengthen us, I’d sell.
He’s been a weak point in the back 3, and if we’re further weakened on the right by Walker going then that’s a worry. His potential as a DM is being stunted, so he’s potentially a wasted asset whose price will start to go down if he can’t find room to develop.

His contribution to squad morale, and the amount of upheaval Poch would be prepared to risk will also come into it though, so I’d expect him to stay for another season.

      • Alwaysnextweek May 16, 2017 at 1:12 pm

I suggest that we need to very careful regarding the sales of first teamers. Sell Walker, Dier and Rose(Just a rumour) to the Manc sisters and we basically become Southampton from 2 years back when them seemed to sell everyone. It will be open season with every player thinking the party is over and wanting out. If Walker is going and I hope he isn’t, that that should be it. Sissy of course is not a first teamer.

        • Gloster1861 May 16, 2017 at 1:18 pm

Correct. Break up the gang and they will lose cohesion , different if Bonzo has been mooching around and wants to leave. But don’t sell players who are happy unless you want to flog the lot and start from scratch.

          • DC Hotspur May 16, 2017 at 4:24 pm

This narrative that Trippier is superior to Walker is nonsense. One need only look at Sunday’s match…Rooney’s goal was scored when Trippier was skinned alive by Martial while Walker was almost yawning with an eye roll when Martial tried that same move on him. I like Trippier as an option but he leaves us vulnerable. I also think people underrate how much Walker’s pace pins back opposing wingers and marauding full backs on his side as well.

Walker does occasionally make a dumb mistake (far fewer in recent years than earlier in his career) but he is still one of the best full backs in the league (as recognized by his fellow professionals) and I think it would be a mistake to let him go.

        • Harry Hotspur May 16, 2017 at 1:41 pm

Selling Bonzo will 100% see us being labelled ‘a Southampton’.

Trippier is a superior player – but the press will not say that. The press will say Tripiier is stepping up.

          • ronwol196061🇨🇦 May 16, 2017 at 1:46 pm

A fast imbecile. He could well be out of his depth elsewhere if he is expected to contribute offensively.

                40 mil then ok?

                Levys Chauffeur plays right back?

          • BARD May 16, 2017 at 2:09 pm

Except the Guardian who will say Steppier is tripping up. Bonzo is an athlete with no football brain. Trippier has brilliant use of the ball but can get caught by pacy wingers (especially on pitches like Wembley).

    • ronwol196061🇨🇦 May 16, 2017 at 1:02 pm

Dier and Wanyama and Dembele make us strong physically across the middle and goid in some ways for
Pochs system but it diesnt enhance our creativity apart from the press that gains the ball back etc.Its valid but it doesnt give us an option to create.

Wanyama can play both centrally and DM but Wanyama and Dier iften compete for the same space while Dembele is adept with the ball but just moves it on rather than creates some real chances.

So I think we can find a Midfielder who can expand our game more..a Fabregas type (not easy to find) as Wanyama can play two ways and Dier us stead in front of the back 4
So I think Dembele would be the one to drop but only for the right player.

  • Arcane May 16, 2017 at 12:15 pm

A newsnow snippet now off the feed reports a supposedly very reliable man city itk source as tweeting the Walker deal to city is done.
If this proves true, there will be 2 benefits: money available for an early signing, and, presumably a generous amount. Don’t see the little haggler agreeing a sale quickly unless he knows he’s getting over over the odds.

A replacement, or at least an alternative, more defensively secure option to Trippier will surely be needed, but if we go for a cheap low-profile safety like the Bournemouth chap, then there should be 20m extra ready for a more ambitious target elsewhere.

    • ronwol196061 May 16, 2017 at 12:23 pm

It would be clever to get a couple of players from them in return

      • Arcane May 16, 2017 at 12:32 pm

In this case Ron, I think cash is king – they can afford to make it on good terms i.e. not dragged out into too many installments – which would give us maximum flexibility in going after our top priorities.

Unless you are suspecting Levy might do the dirty on us and reluctantly fail to reinvest it in signings after supposedly straining every sinew up to the last minute? Surely not. Personally I don’t expect that this time – it’s whether he’ll come up with any significant net investment I doubt.

  • BARD May 16, 2017 at 12:02 pm

The more I think about it, the more worried I am about the Wembley debacle. The main strength of our team is denying the opposition space and winning the ball back early. Wembley makes this much harder to do. We don’t pass teams to death a la Barca. We will look back at this decision in a few years as a monumentally bad one. With regard to investment, we never strike while the iron’s hot. The during the Bale/Modric years we were a top quality striker away from greatness – did we buy one? Did we fuck. We flirt with doing something special, that’s all we ever do. We need a rich backer willing to plough proper money into an already good quality squad to make the next step.

    • ronwol196061 May 16, 2017 at 12:09 pm

We have problems with teams that park the bus. The wide open spaces are bad for their health.
We also have great pace (one of whom sits on the bench week in and week out) and so we can use the space to our advantage. We just have to adapt a little.Thats what managers get paid for.

Wembley never hurt,Ricky Villa or Jimmy Greaves or Bobby Moore or Geoff Hurst or the Magnificent Magyars or Stanley Matthews. It shouldnt hurt us.Infact we will be playing there week in and week out so adapting should be easy.

You know you go to a strange town and you dont know where everything is and 3 days later you make it your own

      • Gloster1861 May 16, 2017 at 12:15 pm

Stop this nonsense talking about occasional matches that Ricky and Greavsie played in at Wembley. This is a whole season. I hope we can mark out the pitch to suit ourselves. Common sense says make it the same as the new stadium so there won’t be a transition issue the following season

        • ronwol196061 May 16, 2017 at 12:22 pm

Whole season is all the more reason to rejoice. We have time to study it and create a system for it..an adjustment of what we do now.

      • BARD May 16, 2017 at 12:21 pm

Pace? Aside from Rose and the soon-to-be-sold Walker, pace is the very thing we lack going forwards.

        • ronwol196061 May 16, 2017 at 12:24 pm

Kane has no pace? Dele has no pace?
We need to get them the ball.WEmbley is more open so good longer passes can create from th space it affords

          • BARD May 16, 2017 at 12:35 pm

Neither of those players are particularly quick. And as for a change of philosophy to create instead of press, that’s not Poch’s strength. Hence my huge reservations for next season.

  • DAVID May 16, 2017 at 11:51 am

I’d keep Walker, unless he’s really burnt his bridges.
He’s better than Tripps and Adam Smith defensively, KWP isn’t ready and CCV is a centre back not a full back or wing back.
Yeah, I’m sure we could stick him out there at wing back, same as we did with Son in the cup semi final .
I know Walker does stupid things at times but he’s a major part of the best defence in the league, breaking it up would be bad enough, replacing him with a lesser player whilst at the same time selling him to a competitor and strengthen ing them whilst we become weaker makes no sense.

    • SpurAndy 🍒π May 16, 2017 at 12:54 pm

I am in agreement Big D. If a player wants out fair do’s but I’m still struggling to understand why some on here are so keen to split up the team. It’s taken us 2,000 years to get a decent one and now some can’t wait to start getting rid. If Walker goes to citeh it’s because he’s a good player. Pep isn’t pulling up trees atm so next year is crucial for him and he’s not going to take a chance and get in any old crap.

  • ronwol196061 May 16, 2017 at 11:30 am

We don’t pay good wages because Levy then has his hand forced. Why keep Dier if we can make 40 million profit on him in two years. He’s only on 50 grand and is an England international and potentially England captain. It’s a terrible joke.

Spend 400 mil to get back 150 mil and win a League cup…clever business

Good morning all. Our weak points this season, in my view, brought to me in glorious high defintion by my service provider, has been our inability to win more away from home. We have drawn and lost far too many, so we need that type of player that can help to turn potential losses into draws and potential draws into wins, away from home. This type of player will be invaluable as well in the harsh unforgiving Wembley stadium, which we must regard as away from home until we get used to the mord frequent grind there. Bonzo going should be just the catalyst to start getting in this type of player: a fighter, leader, thinker, energetic, sums up the situational well, a situational leader, leads by example, either in defence or in attack. Three or so more of this type. Pleeezzz Pocho.

I want someone who can turn our potential losses into wins.

      • ronwol196061 May 16, 2017 at 11:36 am

Our losses this year were all winnable

        • mattspurs May 16, 2017 at 11:45 am

Liverpool battered us, not helped by the fact we had Verts and Rose out but we were never looking like winning that one.

          • ronwol196061 May 16, 2017 at 11:49 am

We never came to every game to play. We have a strong team and some of those games were to do with focus not players

            • DAVID May 16, 2017 at 11:55 am

Think we got that game wrong tactically, should have sat deeper instead of giving them space in behind, the first half saw us totally overwhelmed and ended up looking very bad and clueless as they had all the momentum.

              • ronwol196061 May 16, 2017 at 11:57 am

You could be right,I just think we can match Liverpool and we didnt. We could have done it with the players we had.We don have to buy any more players to beat Liverpool.
We need to strengthen our bench to the extent that we need to rotate a bit more and keep it solid

                • Gloster1861 May 16, 2017 at 12:10 pm

Our tactics were wrong. Played a high line and gave acres of space for their pace men to run into. Should have Sat deep and frustrated them as lesser sides managed. One of Poch’s failings is to observe and learn what other managers do and take notes. Dyche’s tactics weren’t pretty but were effective against the dippers for instance.

                  • ronwol196061 May 16, 2017 at 12:15 pm

Poch has been getting better this year when it comes to tactics. Yes he can be faulted for making some wrong decisions but at least he got away from the one trick pony trying 3 at the back and succeeding and Son as a wing back and failing. But thats good.It means he is developing

                • DAVID May 16, 2017 at 12:13 pm

How you doing Ron ? Going to be a long wait for the start of the new season.
Are you tempted to come back to see us play at Wembley or going to wait for the new ground to be completed ?
Seems like a long time since you and HD were over here .

                  • ronwol196061 May 16, 2017 at 12:20 pm

David would love to come over but will wait for the new stadium. We are really busy with Rhys on my days off and this summer going for a week with my kids and him to a beach area in Canada and looking forward to it and the wife wants to go somewhere warm next winter.
I really had a great time meeting all you lads and it would be great if we could do the same again when the new stadium is up and running.
I enjoy the comraderie as much as I do Tottenham and both of them together makes for a wonderful trip.
You are all a bunch of characters and it was really special the last trip.

                    • DAVID May 16, 2017 at 12:31 pm

Great pleasure to meet you and HD, hope we can do it again
I’m in Spain with my grandson, Freddie, who is 2 next month and his parents, we fly home tomorrow, after a week chasing him round I’m coming home for a rest!

    • mattspurs May 16, 2017 at 11:39 am

We’ve lost 4! Really what think cost us was a bit of a slow start that then wasn’t helped by injuries to key players. Later on once we hit our groove the injuries were coped with much better.

Dembele’s fitness is a bit of a worry – hopefully a summer free of international tournaments will help him out.

Son can be utterly frustrating but 19 goals from a non striker is pretty impressive.

Both however are currently competing for the 11th place in the team.

Winks, Vorm and Davies are solid deputies

Lamela returning or not will be key – we are still probably a bit light creatively. It’s time for Janssen to step up, Nkoudou to get a run. Wimmer needs to get back on track.

Onomah is still only 20 but needs to start performing. CCV needs games. It will be interesting to see if KWP is the right back reserve option.

If we sell Walker and Sissoko we could generate almost £70m.
If anybody else leaves from the first team we are a bit fooked

There’s talk of Smith returning from Bournemouth (£10m?) so that would leave £60m for a creative duo to bolster our attacking options.

  • ronwol196061 May 16, 2017 at 11:22 am

So far we have upped the wages of all the players we treasure in a bid to keep them.
Or maybe sell them. But have we sold them?

    NO

  • Harry Hotspur May 16, 2017 at 11:19 am

    “Just pay the going rate”

Sadly, this is diametrically opposite to the way Spurs is run.

We don’t pay the going rate. We pay the bare minimum with the threat of jam tomorrow, until the player gets so fucked off they can’t take it anymore.

    • ronwol196061 May 16, 2017 at 11:20 am

Spurs do not pay retail prices. Thats why they must buy 2 of anything.

      • Harry Hotspur May 16, 2017 at 11:22 am

Chelsea pay retail – and they win stuff

I want the club to hire someone who knows what they are doing and can buy well.

I see lots of people people coming out of Harrods looking like total tits. It’s about buying well.
In football, that normally means spending more than bus fare.

            • ronwol196061 May 16, 2017 at 11:34 am

I would too and Im sure it will come to that but its not happening this year. Next year maybe. I think it will be one more year of frugality and we should be buying a couple of srious players next year
Fill ins more this year I think

Walker has become the litmus test of everything at Tottenham. Meanwhile the brilliant politician Mr Harry uses the term ‘Walker’ instead of the nomme de plume ‘Bonzo’ to describe the man that he has said on numerous occasions had a pea brain..hisreplacement holds the key to our future

  • Legoverlass May 16, 2017 at 11:13 am

Despite everything I do not rate Trippier at the same level as Walker. Walker and Rose together offer us the best attacking wingback combo in the EPL and as three at the back is our best formation if we sell Walker we then weaken the squad and would need to replace him and has already been said that means paying a wage for that quality. I suspect that they don’t want to pay Walker the going rate because of the impact on the other players who would then think they can apply the same pressure. Pooch is probably looking at Carter Walker as a alternative to Trippier. Is he able to play that attacking wingback role. If not then we will fing decent opposition will attack Trippier with pace and destroy him and our defensive set up especially with the space at Wembley. Levy cannot thread water again otherwise this team will fragment before the first match in the new stadium. He needs to man up now for the first time and invest and strengthen. Winning the title next season and taking over the new stadium as champions is the best way to herald in the new era for THFC

    • David Dillenberg May 16, 2017 at 11:17 am

Yes Trippier was badly exposed by Martial.

    • Ronan May 16, 2017 at 11:33 am

Agreed. Hod, Waddle and Clive Allen have all expressed a fear that this brilliant team could split up without ever winning anything, like the 87 team they played in. Can’t see a good reason why Levy shouldn’t borrow to invest in title-winning additions this summer: zero interest rates, long-term future revenue guaranteed from big money-spinning stadium..
Regardless of going to Wembley, with this team we’ve still got every chance of taking the title next season, if Pochy is given a couple more difference-makers. Chelsea benefited from no injuries to important players this season, and no European distractions. They can be overhauled next time if Levy does his bit..

      • ronwol196061 May 16, 2017 at 11:36 am

You think we are going to be able to compete with Chelsea?????
        They will probably buy Messi

        • Ronan May 16, 2017 at 11:38 am

You’re asking for Sanchez, Ron. Do you want Levy to borrow the money necessary to get that kind of player, or not?

          • ronwol196061 May 16, 2017 at 11:54 am

No there is no way to get Sanchez but Sanchez is the type of player we need. He has the drive.
Not easy to find but I cant leave what I do every day to check out You Tube videos to find that bloke. We do have scouts though that could have a look.
Dele has the ability and power and drive but he is not discplined enough yet and may never be.
I think this type of player fits into the system.
The creativity should come from a player talking Dembeles position as much as I like Dembele.

  • Caveman May 16, 2017 at 10:24 am

If Walker is gone he needs replacing with the same level of player. But the same level of player will want a level of payment equal to what he could keep Walker for. The dilemma is Levy, not the players. Just pay the going rate you baldy skinflint.

    • A waddle and a fork May 16, 2017 at 10:32 am

    • David Dillenberg May 16, 2017 at 10:37 am

Seemingly Citeh have several players surplus to requirements, namely:
      Kolorov
      Zabaletta
      + others
+ This Ryan wonde kid at Fulham?

      Over and out.

      • caveman May 16, 2017 at 10:42 am

and the City players would fit neatly into Levy’s pay structure, yeah?

        • David Dillenberg May 16, 2017 at 10:52 am

Living in fantasy land I am sure potential deal (s) could be done both ways with players accepting a reduction in their wages.

    • mattspurs May 16, 2017 at 11:58 am

Walker is almost 27 and quite honestly a bit knackered. His inability to play 3 games over a week makes him less valuable to the team/squad.
His best asset is his pace and that will start to go potentially leaving him exposed as being a bit of a clueless defender whose pace will stop hiding the fact.

It’s a gamble and requires Trippier to really push on but I think much like Rose he’s taking on what he’s being told all the time to become a good defender.
