Storm in a D Cup.

The Football Association has apologised to Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and Manchester United Football Club after the official FA Cup Twitter account posted a joke mocking Harry Kane’s performance against Chris Smalling in the semi-final at Wembley on Saturday.

The tweet, which was later deleted, read: “What’s that in your pocket Chris?” and linked to an obviously unrelated video of the Manchester United defender saying “Harry Kane”.

“We have written to both clubs to apologise for any offence caused,” said an FA spokesman.

Yes, one can only imagine that…

So in the wake of one stupid piece of PR from Spurs, namely Harry Kane being allowed to hound the FA for a goal that frankly was someone else’s work, we then have Mauricio Botchettino debasing the FA cup before our valiant lads had even a chance to kick a ball in anger, swiftly followed by Tottenham snarling that they want an apology over a Tweet.

This is Spurs tripling down.

Daftness upon daftness upon daftness.

I’m waiting to hear the news that a some disabled fan is having their season ticket suspended because their stick was partially obstructing a stairway.

C’mon Donna Cullen, push on and give us all a Top Four of self inflicted fiascos!

What some Spurs supporters need to realise is that Poch was stumbled upon by Levy and attractive to him as a coach because of his willingness too work with and improve obscure younger players. He was at Southampton and not difficult to prise away either.

The plan all along was to do things like sell players like Walker to the highest bidder and attempt to replace him with garbage like Aurier, he’ll also hope that Poch can transform a player like Aurier from garbage into yet another big profit margin.

Toby not being kept on, Walker being sold, Sanchez and Foyth being signed in the summer is all deliberate. It’s about a conveyor belt business model that Poch is intrinsic to. Before Poch it was the DOF structure, just another attempt to do the same thing.

Poch was not brought in to win trophies, he was brought in to assist with the business model already in place but he has done better that anyone expected.
To now expect him to be a’ tactical wiz’ against the likes of Allegri and Maureen in crunch games also with a budget utterly dwarfed by the ones they work with is completely missing the point. It was never in his job description.

Everything you see before you at Spurs is the creation of ENIC and Levy, they are totally in control of everything.

Poch is deflecting criticism and playing down the importance of the FA Cup because it’s just he reality under Levy. He’s talking about the league and C.L because with the scant resources Levy provides him with, the improvement in our league position and C.L participation is all we have to shout about.

Some fans are imagining Poch as someone else, someone with a different job description and with a different budget and transfer policy. This is what Poch goes on about in almost EVERY presser but some fans just don’t get it or more likely don’t want to face up the the reality.

Comparisons with Klopp at Liverpool are way off the mark and laughable really, Liverpool have signed several players from under our noses in the last few windows purely because they pay the going rate. They sold Coutinho under duress and spent 85 million of that on one defender.

Klopp isn’t better than Poch but he’s given more of the tools to do the job of trying to win something that Poch will ever seen under Levy. In fact I regard Klopp as bang average compared to Poch personally but that’s not the point.

Some people need to separate fantasy from reality more often…

    • Freund or Foe April 24, 2018 at 9:40 am

      Fantasy and reality?
‘Gaffer, I’ve been at Tottenham for nine years. I’ve thought about it and my heart isn’t here any more. Nor is my head. I’ve given all I have to give. I wanted to tell you before I tell my agent that I want to leave this summer.’

      • East Stand April 24, 2018 at 9:42 am

The reality of selling him to a rival and replacing him with Aurier is what I’m on about…

      • Ronan April 24, 2018 at 10:06 am

That was after Walker had been benched for Trippier, despite performing at the peak of his powers. Could Poch have bent a little Walker’s way at that moment so we didn’t end up weakening one of our key positions, strengthening Man City and unsettling people like Toby and Rose?

At that time we seemed invulnerable and the consensus was Walker that was dispensable, even if he was the league’s best RB and guardiola didn’t have any RBs. Now looks like one of those sliding doors moments.

When Llorente leaves this summer, as he surely will after being badly utilised by Pochettino, we’ll be back to looking around for another cut price back up to Kane. Any suggestions?

      • AntSpurs April 23, 2018 at 10:22 pm

That was horrific Mel, was it intentional? I had only read about the driver being over the limit and losing control.

        • East Stand April 23, 2018 at 10:25 pm

I heard he was just pissed, was there another motivation then? Terrible.

        • melcyid April 23, 2018 at 10:29 pm

he was over the limit and had cannabis in his blood stream but his plea deal of an accident. none of the police statements add up and he never touched the brakes but continued to accelerate over them 1 by 1.

          • East Stand April 23, 2018 at 10:35 pm

So why did the court hearing also say he was also two and a half times over the drink drive limit? Are you saying the court made it up?

            • AntSpurs April 23, 2018 at 10:42 pm

Sometimes the police cock up the evidence, maybe they had good reason to stop him before the event, who knows just a couple of examples. The courts only sentence based on the charges and evidence the porosecution supply.

              • gloster1861 April 23, 2018 at 10:47 pm

This Chudasama character had been convicted of assault and also of possessing cannabis. Three previous run ins with the police.

      • gloster1861 April 23, 2018 at 10:22 pm

Didn’t they catch and prosecute the driver? I’m sure it was in the news.

        • East Stand April 23, 2018 at 10:30 pm

Prosecutor Crispin Aylett QC said it was estimated Chudasama was more than two-and-a-half times the legal drink-drive limit when his Audi mounted the pavement at about 20:40 GMT.

“In the course of over-taking another vehicle, the defendant lost control of his car,” Mr Aylett said.

“The vehicle struck and fatally injured three boys who were walking along the pavement.”

He hit them at 70mph drunk overtaking another car. Not sure where Melc has got this other stuff from.

          • East Stand April 23, 2018 at 10:32 pm

Perhaps something else is at foot but the court hearing sounds fairly thorough to me.

          • AntSpurs April 23, 2018 at 10:32 pm

He’s saying it’s a cover up. It’s his grandsons mates.

            • AntSpurs April 23, 2018 at 10:35 pm

              What deals been offered Mel?

            • East Stand April 23, 2018 at 10:37 pm

I understand what you’re saying but why would they cover it up? The press perhaps but a court?

          • melcyid April 23, 2018 at 10:46 pm

This is exactly the cover up , police statement .the driver was in a car park prior to the carnage waiting, any way wait until it comes out it is not over yet, This was rushed through the courts.none of the statements that the police took were made public and ones that were were fabricated.

            • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? April 23, 2018 at 11:39 pm

Certainly sounds strange. The form for the terrorist events on the news dictates the guy would declare it. For Allah etc. Must be another reason the case has been so dodgey.

              • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? April 23, 2018 at 11:42 pm

Some do, they found loads of weed and drink at the apartment of some of the Paris attackers.

Having said that I think you could be right, this guy is obviously a complete arsehole who’s been in several run ins with the Old Bill but any Islamist motivation seems a bit sketchy to me. He’s been doing the ‘gangsta’ thing and as with many of these people it leads to somebody getting hurt or killed.

That’s how you can tell the bullshit. If your martyring yourself for Islam against “infidels” you ain’t boozing and weeding. It doesn’t even make sense. We really got to step back and consider what’s being put out by the media.

                  • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? April 24, 2018 at 12:40 pm

And , yeah agree, the guy is clearly a problem mentally. Interesting one article said a police officer turned up to the scene and went straight to help him!? One of the kids had to say “what are you doing?! My friends are dying or dead, help them?!. Odd shit. Something not right. Not terror related though.

        • melcyid April 23, 2018 at 10:41 pm

plea deal was done .they only caught the driver and friend as they ran away because 2 of the boys friends jumped on them,There was no trial only a soft sentence handed down. witness accounts were not allowed at the court. These families handed in 2 petitions to get the trial over 200,000 people responded and they ignored them. This is going to be a huge slap in the face for the media and hirearchy they are not protecting the people. I hope to god nothing ever happens to the bloggers on here loved ones in a similar situation you will be hit with double despair,This will come out eventually these poor distraught families are fighting for justice for their sons. They are ordinary families with ordinary boys that had been to see spurs together at wembley during this season.

I dont really want to say more and i dont want to argue with anyone over it. everything that anyone has mentioned on here about the case has been carefully crafted by the establishment and the media reports what they are given and then we are all supposed to move along please nothing to see here.

            • AntSpurs April 23, 2018 at 11:52 pm

That’s understandable mate. Sorry to hear this as the suffering from such young losses in this way is enough. I hope for a fair trial so that the families and friends can find some peace. Best wishes Mel.

I agree, the point I’m making is the stadium has seen them winning less than they did at Library.

We are winning sod all even before we move!

Broadly I agree with Poch, winning a domestic cup would be nice but it’s a side issue.

  • Tom from the East Upper April 23, 2018 at 8:42 pm

MARMALADE TODAY by Tom, formally of the East Upper

So, Saturday came.. another FA Cup semi final. I can’t get excited about these anymore. Being in my mid thirties I have yet to experience Tottenham reach an FA Cup final. Legend has it we were traditionally a great cup side. I was too young to enjoy the ‘91 Cup run, when Gazza ‘had a crack’, then broke his leg in the final, with it all ending in a blaze of glory with Gary Mabbutt bringing the trophy back home.

History. As is this years cup campaign. The hard work was done. Just one more win and I’d at last see this thing of legend but once again, it wasn’t to be..

I can’t get excited for these semi finals because I’ve been disappointed so many times. 8 times in total in be exact. My Arsenal supporting mates have seen their team lift the cup as many times as I’ve been left crying into my beer. EIGHT TIMES! That’s not all down to the manager who has been in charge for just 2 of these, and it’s not all down to luck, either.

Maybe it’s the way the majority of players still perceive us as a football club? A chance for groups of young footballers who’s careers have barely started to put themselves firmly in the front of the shop window? Maybe their attitudes are, ‘medal after my big move’? Maybe the time has come to call ourselves Tottenham Hotspur Shop Window, rather than Tottenham Hotspur Football Club?

Whatever the truth of the matter is, losing these games hurts. It’s a beating that we as supporters have taken regularly over the years, regularly under the watch of one man, Mr Daniel Levy… 6 out of 8 FA Cup semi finals to be accurate. A man who has rewarded himself this year for such achievements with wheelbarrows full of bits of paper with the Queen’s head on, to the tune of 6 million. He may be adding to the club’s legacy by building the finest outdoor arena ever to be seen on Planet Earth, but also a legacy of failing to win trophies, based on results on the football pitch, rather than actually winning them. Better leave that bit out of next season’s glossy brochures eh!? Together with the photos of our oh-so-dusty trophy cabinet.

So, Levy is the common factor in all of this. The statistics don’t lie, but I don’t see Pochettino as completely blameless either. Don’t get me wrong, I love Poch, and cannot praise his work to date as anything other than miraculous, he is changing things for the better, but he needs to shoulder some of the responsibility with where we are now.

I personally don’t buy rumours of him being disinterested in winning domestic cups. What person would manage a club not to win trophies? He regularly juggles the team for cup games as our squad is simply wafer thin. You cannot compare our squad to the likes of Mercenary City and Manure – it’s apples and oranges territory. Needs must – Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup are the rigours of the day. As we are, something has to give somewhere. His uncharacteristic, enthusiastic celebrations after Dele’s opening goal, the hand to the forehead when United scored their eventual winner, his comments to the press after the game to my eyes tell us all you need to know. He was devastated.. prickly, but devastated.

I’m hoping that in light of our season so far, he stops pleading public poverty and gives the board an ultimatum – “Pay my players the going rate and buy me players that will turn us into real contenders, or I leave.” At the moment, Pochettino is giving the impression in public that he’s about to be sold ‘jam tomorrow’, only to discover that his pantry is choc full with marmalade that’s on the turn, and that he’s lost the receipt for the jam! He must use this situation as leverage to help us make the next step. Failing to do this would be doing a disservice to the football club, the supporters, and himself. Levy will be the next one to plead poverty to the manager, lamenting the cost of the new stadium etc, but in a world of record breaking revenue streams, investment in the actual football team is a mere drop in the ocean. In 4 years, Pochettino has taken us from mid table mediocrity to a team almost riding the crest of a wave, but just recently has plateaued due to the quality of his surfboard. We’re not far away, but far enough. When Dier hit the post just before half time.. it’s fine margins, but it’s these fine margins that matter in the final analysis – winners and losers.

I think the penny may now have finally dropped with him (quick, Daniel might pick it up!) with a sudden thud but he must be brave enough to do something about it, as opposed to spit his dummy out and say that he’ll play the kids next year. Using the ‘philosophy’ in 4 years time butters no parsnips either.. does he really think our other contenders won’t have progressed further in that time? Who will be left then when the other players have looked above their heads to see the Kyle Walker’s of this world’s mixture of medals and money gleaming in the distance beforehand? He’s made mistakes, but he’s a relatively young manager, he’ll make mistakes – verbal, tactical and otherwise.

As I said earlier, I love Pochettino, he’s the best manager I’ve witnessed first hand at the club, but he must be proactive if he is to achieve his ambitious objectives otherwise everyone may as well pack up and go home. A home where winning trophies is a regular thing for future generations of football supporters.. think of that potential profit loss, Mr Levy!

Challenge Daniel, Mauricio! Take him down like you did Michael Owen! Make history – glorious history.

      Cri de Coeur.

I feel your pain. That you were not there at a time when Gazza and Lineker broke Arsenal in that semifinal. When Ricky came back from substitution in the final to score his masterly goal in the replay. Days when Spurs and cup runs meant victory, not defeat.

Apologies to the casual observers for the length..

Freund or Foe April 23, 2018 at 6:38 pm

Your question was, does anyone think we have a realistic chance of finishing above City, Manure and Pooh, and my answer was yes, I think we have a realistic chance. The problem with predictions, which is what you and many others are giving, is that you’ve nailed your colours to definitive things happening, not chance. I’ve read predictions all season on here.
Wembley will be an unmitigated disaster.
    We’ll never finish top four.
We’ll never get out of the CL group stages.
We won’t buy anyone in January, and Kane/Tobes/Rose/every fucker will leave in January.
According to your concerns and issues with Poch/Levy, which haven’t been any different over the past few years, there’s no way we should have finished about City, Manure and Pooh in the last two seasons, yet we have.
No, we haven’t got quite as many points as last season, yet as Camus quite rightfully pointed out, we had to get used to a new home, and yet we are still up there in the top 4, above last seasons champs, and had a memorable CL run.
The overreaction to one game of football on here is quite remarkable.

    <>

    FOF
I think your ‘realistic’ is very different from mine so we’re into subjective opinions about next season’s league position, which is fine – it was a throw-away question at the end of a much longer post which i still hope you will address.

My current concerns regarding Poch/Levy are actually very different from any concerns i might have had a few years ago -so i’m not sure where you got that from – and are borne out of the experience of those last few years. I certainly never said we wouldn’t or shouldn’t finish above Shitty or Manure last two seasons so on both counts you’re twisting inaccurate subjective memories of my concerns to fit retro-active hypothetical prophecies i never made – but i did make it very clear, very early this season that i thought we would not finish above them and that has panned out to be the case.

My current concerns, which are the ones to address are thus:

Imho Poch’s project is regressing and needs a fundamental re-think; he says it needs more time but clearly this is predicated on one group of players staying put, being developed and being added to by players of an equal or better skill set/ability, either bought and trained or developed from the academy. But absolutely none of this has come to pass. We sold the epl’s best right back, replaced him with a muppet and there’s been ZERO input from the academy. And now we are set to sell Europes best CB and definitively break up what was the epl’s best defence. So in the instance of player retention, recruitment and development, how is the project on track and how have we evolved or got better?

This season in the epl we have already lost more matches, conceded more goals
and scored dramatically less goals than last season and will finish – who knows where – but it will be lower than last year.

Four years into the project and we still struggle in the exact same way to break down teams that are set up primarily to defend, and generally, tactically, i would argue that Poch is being found out or found to be out to lunch, more and more often. And should we talk about substitutions or big game management?

The Academy has also produced absolutely no-one to write home about in the entirety of his tenure. He has signed off on, agreed to, or not argued against, signing a whole heap of shite players (highlights include Sissoko, N’koudo, Aurier etc)

He talks about ‘competing’ ad nauseam but how does selling or freezing out our best players and throwing cup competitions stack up with that?

One season at Wembley doesn’t cover it.

Poch’s whole schtick seems to have been predicated on other teams around us not improving dramatically, it’s as if he is in shock that shitty slaughtered all before them and look very much as if they will do the same next season.

I think he is lost and ‘the project’ has and will be overtaken by events over which he has no control or current answer to.

    • Camus April 23, 2018 at 8:17 pm

I’m gonna butt in again, Paul, sorry.
You obviously feel Poch is losing his way now.
I understand some of your concerns, but I think the key question is:-

Do you think there is a better manager out there than Poch, who can take us higher, maybe win a trophy, and who is willing to work under Levy’s net spend rules and fairly shit transfer policy?

      I’m not sure there is…

      • paul April 23, 2018 at 8:24 pm

Not at all Cam, it’s not a private conversation!

There’s the rub, is there a better manager for us under current working conditions; i’m not sure there is either. So for me Poch needs to gut-up, and leverage his continuance against changing the working conditions. Otherwise he should clear off and let someone else have a crack – my own opinion is that Simeone wouldn’t be a bad option.

        • paul April 23, 2018 at 8:25 pm

The alternative is a slo-mo car crash of the project especially given that we just choked very publicly for the 8th straight FA cup semi and will win nothing at all, yet again, so it’s not unreasonable to assume that at least one or two of our better players will lose belief in ‘the project’ and coupled with the sub-par wages they’ve been picking up on the promise of better things will now be looking to move on.

      • East Stand April 23, 2018 at 9:12 pm

        I’m sure there isn’t Camus…

    • Freund or Foe April 23, 2018 at 8:41 pm

I’m not twisting anything Paul. Your concerns are the academy not working, not being able to keep players due to the wage structure/lack of winning silverware, and negligence in the transfer market. I can’t see how you can have those concerns now, but haven’t for the past two seasons. What has changed?
Yes, we obviouy have very different opinions, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I could write an essay detailing why I don’t feel the same as you, but I’d only be regurgitating the same shite that I’ve been saying on here forever, and be honest, I really can’t be arsed, especially when you’ve got such set ideas on what you think is wrong and what will happen from now. It would be a pointless exercise, you’re not going to change your view based on what I say, nor would I expect you to.

      • paul April 24, 2018 at 1:43 am

Because i’m a supporter first and foremeost FOF, so it’s been a gradual wearing down of that initial enthusiasm and support and i don’t think i’m the only one who feels this way or has ultimately arrived at the same point. Experience changes perception.

  • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? April 23, 2018 at 7:56 pm

Just heard a Brighton fan on the wireless talking about our “odd” performance vs them last week, and how beating Brighton would’ve been a tonic going into the Utd game with the pyschological edge in the league, as 3 pts would have us on their heels. Identical performances at a crunch time. Odd indeed.

Pochettino seems scared to talk like someone fired up for a blistering end of season. He’s become a shrinking violet.

So so calm is not what we want. But it explains why Lloris is captain, because Hugo is zen like during matches. Clearly Poch doesn’t want fire in a leader.

            • Camus April 23, 2018 at 8:11 pm

Probably. He seemed a bit above our general level back then, like we were doing him a favour.
It’s weird that Poch can’t just give it to an outfield player.
Vertonghen was the obvious choice this season.

    PRESS RELEASE:
Whilst hearing that Spurs are currently in crises with a triple down meltdown…news has reached the chairman of Hotspur of Tottening. The part owner of the entertainment fair ground is quick to realise a statement; “I told the builders not to polish the concrete floor, I’ve found extra budget (cough) to install laminate flooring to get over this crises…as with the tunnel club, I told them we needed a two way mirror, not bifold doors and lastly there will be 2 free beers at the 1882 half time show, not the 1 thats reported..I hope that clears everything up.”

  • SeattleSpursGuy April 23, 2018 at 6:59 pm

Just a reminder of some non-doom facts:

We’re 5 points ahead of Chelsea, with a superior GD, so effectively 6 points ahead.

We’re 3 points behind Pool, but with a game in hand.

Pool dropped points in their last game and seem to have an eye the CL. We’re well placed to overtake them.

Chelsea and Pool play each other. One or both will drop points, which is to our advantage.

3 of our remaining 4 games are at home (OK, Wembley), to teams either safe or very nearly so. They will probably have less to play for.

Our away game is to WBA, who could well be relegated by the time we meet them. Again, probably less to play for.

Over to Poch and company to do their bit.

  • Freund or Foe April 23, 2018 at 6:38 pm

    Paul,

    • caveman April 23, 2018 at 6:42 pm

Not if you tailor in Poch’s pre-match press conference regarding the FA Cup.

      • caveman April 23, 2018 at 6:43 pm

and not putting out the best eleven. He (in my eyes) threw the game.

        • Blackfish April 23, 2018 at 6:46 pm

who was absent. Toby! I also want him in the team and reckon we miss him but in the SF sanchez was better and toby not playing was not the issue. more of our first 11 were playing badly as its a trend since city game.

        • Sexy Beast April 23, 2018 at 6:48 pm

Perhaps a gentlemans agreement between MP Hugo and Vorm that Vorm plays Cup games, you’d be ok if he broke it?

        • Freund or Foe April 23, 2018 at 6:55 pm

Those are your opinions Captain, but I don’t agree in the slightest. Think about what you’re saying.
We lost a game because our manager answered a question in a certain way in a press conference.

          Here’s my take.
We lost a a game becuase the other team, and their managers tactics were better than us in the day.

Now look at those two options again.

      • Sexy Beast April 23, 2018 at 6:46 pm

  • Camus April 23, 2018 at 6:29 pm

We do appear to have royally facked our own run-in here.
If we wanted to make ourselves The Banter Club once more after the Goons, Pool and West Ham had all taken that particular mantle on, between Levy, Kane and Poch we couldn’t really have done a better job of it. We’ve snatched that Hat of Turd back and plonked it straight back on our heads.

The fanbases of all the other clubs are revelling in this unexpected new feast of Banter and the Chavs are revving up the Banter Bus to give us the mother of all fist-fucks in the face, if Poch manages to continue his little midlife crisis for another couple of games.

On top of that, we have the World Cup Banter to look forward to…
It’s a toss-up as to which player will get the most backlash from the media and the entire nation this summer.
It won’t be Henderson, it won’t be Sterling, it won’t even be Joe Hart who probably won’t play.
    It’s between Kane and Dele.

    What’s that sound?
That, lads, is the Banter Bus on its way to run us over…
