Riyad Mahrez has promised to do his best for Leicester despite admitting he is still keen to discuss a potential move to Serie A side Roma.

The 26-year-old winger, who won the Premier League with the Foxes in 2015-16, first expressed a desire to leave in May and boss Craig Shakespeare has said a July bid from Roma was rejected.

Algeria international Mahrez – the PFA players’ player of the year in 2016 – is eager to speak to “great club” Roma, but until he is given permission to do so he will continue to fight for the Leicester cause.

“I know Roma came in, but nothing was accepted so there is little I can do,” he told Sky Sports News HQ. “They are a great club who I would like to talk to but I can’t until Leicester accept a deal.

“Leicester know my thoughts, but I will continue to give my best for the club as I always have.

“Clearly it is flattering whenever you get linked with any big clubs but, as it stands, I have not talked to anyone as nobody has had a bid accepted but we nearly have a month left of the transfer window so we will see what happens.”

France-born Mahrez scored 17 league goals as Leicester stole an unlikely march to the title 15 months ago but his levels dipped as the Foxes slipped to 12th in the table last season.

HI Baba. We need two midfielders & a RB more than a third choice striker, think Janssen is being given this season. 25 mil is a lot, seems Giovanni Simeone is on the radar for a lot less money too.

  • BabaSpurs🎱 August 6, 2017 at 9:59 am

Why we didn’t go in for Iheanacho as part of the Bonzo deal is still beyond me. He would have been less of a punt compared to the other names we’re supposedly in for.

Correct, Juve have reached two Champions League finals in the last 3 years while City have floundered considering the talent they have.
Pep and his Harlem Globetrotter style will NOT win the league, that is my opinion. 👍

Want and Preparing, but no varifiable bids.

  • BabaSpurs🎱 August 6, 2017 at 9:02 am

    Positive takeaways:
I thought the lads played well yesterday, much, much better than against Citeh that’s for sure. They seemed more “at home” and played with a higher level of assurance.
The academy players weren’t short of confidence and KWP did a competent job imho. Kane, Eriksen, Delboy looked sharp as did Tobes and Verts.
Winks will play an important role in midfield this season I feel – the best is yet to come from this lad.
    Not-so positive takeaways:
Dier looked strangely out of sorts yesterday and I’m not just talking about his performance either.
Sissoko is NOT part of the team. One season on and he still looks totally disengaged. I still wouldn’t want him next to me in the trenches.
As feared, the lack of a proper backup for Tripps is going to cost us if it doesn’t get sorted this window. Dier can slot in when we go 3 at the back but he isn’t a RB.
The academy players are NOT ready for the league yet.
    Verdict:
No way are we going to be able to compete effectively on 4 fronts this season. Something will have to give.
I hope we prioritize the league cup or FA cup (preferred) whilst playing for a top 4 place in the league. Foolish thinking I know.

      • BabaSpurs🎱 August 6, 2017 at 9:33 am

Defo, Nilly but I wasn’t trying to make comparisons between Juve and Citeh, rather that the lads played more like the Spurs we know from last season. I couldn’t recognise the team against Citeh. Heads were high and we played with confidence yesterday. That, to me, is far more important, at this time, because we all know what the lads are capable of on the field.

    • AccringtonSpurs August 6, 2017 at 9:14 am

Agree they seemed more comfortable – Yet thought Juve looked lethargic. No intensity to their game, no pressing.

Winks needs time to get back to his best.

Sissoko will not save his Spurs career by hitting the post. Thought he made a bunch of errors and looked shite again after 1 or 2 pieces of constructive play that lead some to believe he was playing well – not my observation at all.

I believe we’ll bring in 3 or 4, so not too worried about the academy.

      • BabaSpurs🎱 August 6, 2017 at 9:20 am

The slow start last season cost us. I fear it’ll be the same this time as the new recruits will need time to bed in and meld. We’ll be playing catch up once again. I just hope we don’t leave too wide a gap this season.

        • AccringtonSpurs August 6, 2017 at 9:22 am

New recruits won’t be starters anyway. We can put out an 80% full strength team for first few games. Think we’ll be alright, tho expect Chelsea to batter us.

          • BabaSpurs🎱 August 6, 2017 at 9:49 am

No offense, mate but I hope you’re dead wrong. TBH I’m glad we’re playing the racists early. The lads will defo be up for it but should we get battered, hopefully then Levy will break under the pressure. Foolish thinking, once again, I know.

  • digiyid August 6, 2017 at 6:48 am

Remember this name Anderson Talisca of Benfica..Spurs are one of the clubs looking at this player. apparently..25 mil Euros is the price Benfica wants. Only trouble is he is out on 2 year loan deal to another club BUT Benfica claimed that the other club failed to deposit the 2 million Euros per year Loan fee and asked player to return and Benfica is taking the case to FIFA and UEFA to cancel the loan deal so they can sell the player..He is 23 and better player than Mahrez any given day..Big strong player with great shooting ability. Scores a lot of goals for an attacking Midfielder..

    • Ufluckinplic August 6, 2017 at 8:27 am

  • Ufluckinplic August 5, 2017 at 11:26 pm

The lack of pace today and how we were exposed defensively out wide was very disturbing. Even if Tripps is crocked for next week I still can’t see Danny Boy buying. On the plus side driving past the new ground today it was impressive to see how quickly it’s going up.

  • McG ⚽⚽ August 5, 2017 at 11:09 pm

Ligue 1 kicked off today & we beat PSG, Juve kick off one week later than us, so aren’t that far behind us in terms of fitness. We won at Wembley & looked a lot like the team paying at WHL last year, so I took heart from today’s performance. Bench is wafer thin, so we can thank Levy for being our usual achilles heel in terms of starting the season weakened. If Sissy stays, there was a positive to take from today, don’t try sticking him out wide. Another positive was Poch’s use of the word “few” when discussing signings today, so hopefully three to come in, just under 4 weeks left of the window….

  • Lahdedah August 5, 2017 at 10:34 pm

I wasn’t too impressed, but then I rarely am. Happy BLT Day (bacon, lettuce, and tomato).

  • caveman August 5, 2017 at 10:27 pm

Sissoko was only impressive today because he was playing in a friendly and given plenty of time against a team that were playing at half tilt. Newcastle will be up for it and we better be also. KWP did impress me with his defending, he deserves his chance. We’ll probably play with a back three against Newcastle and Chelscum anyway.

You can count on Dele for an assist or goal every 1.5 games or whatever it is…

But there were times last season when I saw him press relentlessly, in addition to games where he didn’t make such of an impact.

    I think he’s currently undroppable.

Few things firstly my fear came true an injury to either Davies or Trippier and were fooked KWP did well considering but don’t be fooled in a proper Pressure game he’d struggle. Secondly how stupid was Trippier going into that second needless challenge. Georgiou is an extremely exciting prospect and one I’d definitely hope we bring through Ginola esque. Alli can do sweet fuck all all game yet produce a sublime bit of skill when needed. Finally we must have the weakest bench of any Champions league team

    • mikespurs August 5, 2017 at 8:40 pm

Agree with most. Delli is just gonna be that floater that is invisible for 90% of the game but still gets that key assist/goal. Makes the poch comment all too real.

Pleasing to hear we did good today, and the Eriksen goal looked class on the clip I’ve seen. Good bit of practice at Wembley, but questions around how fit, ready or up for it Juve were. Concerning to see Trippier on crutches and, even though we all know our first XI plus Son is class, the bench illustrates how non-existent the squad depth is. Perspective.

It wasn’t for want of trying. He was often in advanced positions, hugging the touchline, with acres of space around him but no one saw fit to give him the ball. Defensively he was very solid.

An encouraging performance on the whole.

    • maximumspursman August 5, 2017 at 8:01 pm

Pretty much agree with all of that. I thought we were very pleasing on the eye – admittedly, against a less than full speeed Juve (but they were CL finalists and Serie A winners so still no mugs) and much improved from our last outing. However, does not look good for Tripps and, as many have pointed out the ‘Haircut 100’ bench is not going to do it for us in Premier or CL games. Buy now please!
