Interesting quotes emanating from the East End today, if you find unchecked flattery from an opposing manager interesting, of course.

The West Ham gaffer told the press:

“For me, they are the team that plays the most attractive football. They are definitely one of the contenders to win the league. They have energy, they have patterns, they have individual quality, they have got pace and they have got the team that they are building up for three years now.

“They are improving as a team and as a squad with new players – mostly young ones – and that for me, personally, makes them the best team, or the most attractive one definitely.”

It would be foolish of Slaven Bilic to take pot shots at a Spurs side that hasn’t shown much vulnerability away from home this season having beaten Newcastle 0-2 and Everton 0-3 so far.

West Ham have had a diabolical start to their season conceding 10 goals in 5 games.

By stark contrast, Tottenham have conceded just 3 times in as many matches.

“We’ve covered this 3 times now.

Opta is specifically based upon player activity during games you may find this helpful http://www.optasports.com/about/how-we-do-it/the-data-collection-process.aspx it is not subjective in any single respect.

This may add to their credibility http://www.optasports.com/media/94007/gd-274_opta-overview-v3.pdf Clients include the Premier League and all the bookmakers.

You’ll recall I included a performance graph relating to Alli’s naff showing against Burnley (aside from the goal he was too ashamed to celebrate he was about as useful as Sissoko) which you chose to defer in favour of some garbage on WhoScored? which does include subjective opinion.

I haven’t mentioned a ‘performance score’, I have retained my focus on the individual elements of his game that prove he’s a time waster.”

On your previous blog slating Alli:

    http://theboyhotspur.com/dele-alii-was-appalling/

You posted an infographic (or whatever they’re called) from Opta which says Performance Score on the side as a way of ‘proving’ that Dele Alli hadn’t worked hard during the game. (Quote: “If you think a 76% pass accuracy is substandard, which it is, take a look at this week’s activity graph. The boy seriously needs talking to.” And “We essentially got about half an hour out of him, when he felt like joining in.” This is a claim (that Dele doesn’t put a shift in) that you’ve been repeating for a while, alongside the Gangsta stuff.

The links you provide to Opta’s website are exactly the stuff I’ve read, basically a load of marketing guff that gives no information on HOW THEY ACTUALLY COMPILE THEIR DATA (as you say, we’ve been through this 3 times already).

So, in short, you’ve provided some evidence that Dele is lazy without doing any such thing. What would prove your point that Dele is a passenger in the team, other than his goals and assists, is some actual hard data like: miles covered, sprints completed etc, not some nefarious Performance Score, the compilation of which Opta keep as a big secret. What happens if Dele runs his arse off closing down the opposition for 90 mins but hardly ever gets passed the ball in dangerous areas despite making continuous runs to receive those balls? We know he can score, because his stats tell us he can. They’re facts.

I get you don’t like his attitude but questioning his work ethic is unwarranted and you’ve provided no proof to back it up.

Having just watched This Week presented by Andrew Neil his guest Tim Martin founder and Chairman of Wetherspoons has expressed skepticism that Brexit will actually occur. When we voted to come out of Europe it was just that, nothing to do with Hard Brexit or Soft Brexit, staying in the single market and customs union, coming out the single market and customs union plus administering “transitional arrangements” none of which was properly explained during the referendum campaign. It was simply a straight in or out, nothing more nothing less.

Re dele, I think he’s having some demons going on and has for some time in his head.
He’s changed his shirt from Alli to Dele in some kind of personal angst with his dad, he’s changing agents from one of stability to one of a bit of a wanker, plus his on field antics such as petulance and daftnesd re hand gestures, maybe there’s more to his behaviour than is on the surface.
A young man with everything thrown at him in 2 seasons, maybe he’s struggling to cope with it all.
Perhaps his mental side isn’t coping well.
It’s a lot to take on at his age and he’s like a rabbit in the headlights and having a few brain farts trying to cope.

    Maybe.

    • Mad Carew September 21, 2017 at 10:24 pm

He needs someone to mentor him, he’s lost now that Walker is gone, no one in the dressing room does gangsta now, Dier tries but he’s sh*t.

      • Mad Carew September 21, 2017 at 10:25 pm

Lloris tried wearing his Beret back to front but nobody noticed !

      • Still Nil Nil September 21, 2017 at 10:31 pm

Mental health is a major issue and there are many varied types of it.
He does need a mentor and won’t find a better one than poch.
But he seems to be going thru a bit of a self destruct stage at the moment.
He needs to see it thru and come out relatively unscathed or he’ll end up on the scrap heap and in the gutter.
Then nobody will care too much except for the occasional ‘what a shame, he had it all but blew it away’ comments.
Nurtured thru this part of his life properly, could make him stronger.
But if not, the scrap heap and a bed sit with a rope hanging down from the roof beams beckons.
Might sound extreme but success is only a fag papers width from failure.

        • Mad Carew September 21, 2017 at 10:38 pm

This aspect may well be a failing at the Club. Poch has said his door is open and he would be happy to help, unfortunately Alli is unlikely to seek help and those who have his ear will no doubt be more inclined to ask themselves “What’s in it for me.”

        • LingLongMan 🚯 September 21, 2017 at 10:48 pm

I would hope that the club would have some sort of program that the younger members of the teams have to do in regards to mental health and how to handle all the fame and the trappings of being a modern day football player.

I think the pressure to perform is absolutely massive at this level and real confidence comes from the love that yo ur parents bestow upon you. He is having to front his insecurities and fears in the spotlight. Not easy!!!! We shouldn’t turn on him too much, he’s a great talent.

      • East Stand September 22, 2017 at 8:28 am

He doesn’t have to do anything in public Waddle, I thought the shirt name thing was the beginning of a slippery slope into a reality TV show situation.

‘Memphis’ at Manure did the same and he’s seriously failed to meet his potential.

    • East Stand September 22, 2017 at 8:25 am

I reckon you’re onto something there Nilly, most young English players get distracted and overhyped too much and too quickly. Inevitable that all the hangers on and circus follows them.

If you’ve got personal stuff too at that age it’s not a great recipe for success is it. He’s talented but we’ll see how he goes, next two seasons are crucial to where he ends up…
