Yesterday I suggested that Poch was throwing tonight’s cup game against Liverpool. As ever, this was a crude description, but within only a few hours the assertion has been revealed as correct.

“At Tottenham now we have a very small squad of senior players and many younger players. If they can cope with the pressure they will be important players, like Harry Kane.

If not it is because they are not at the level to play for Tottenham.

It is important for a club like Tottenham, who has invested a lot of money, to create space for players with talent like Marcus Edwards, Harry Winks and Josh Onomah…”

All very commendable, but it’s spin.

Another cup we are hampering our own chances of winning.

Tom Collomosse’s headline in the Evening Standard says it all.

From a commercial standpoint Poch is on a win-win.

The kids do well – their value increases. They don’t and it’s less pressure on a first team squad that is already beginning to run out of steam, not to mention ideas.

At the risk of dragging football into this muddled business; it isn’t difficult to argue that had we bought some players that weren’t either rubbish or economic punts for the future, then we might well be better placed to cope.
