Son Sucked & Sissoko Silenced

By The Boy -
My thanks to the superb Forensic Onions

Gazzaniga – Pretty decent apart from the odd spill.

Trippier – Defensively solid enough, not allowed to offer anything offensively.

Sanchez – Good game

Alderweireld – Nice ball for Kane. Defensively pretty good, though did lose his man badly at one corner.

Rose – Really poor defensively for the first hour, was giving Hudson-Odoi far too much space and constantly allowed balls to come into the box, luckily the rookie didn’t make the most, but had that been a more experienced player it could have been fatal. Last 20 when Odoi was switched, he was OK.

Sissoko – We desperately need someone who brings more, with and without the ball to this role.

Winks – Defensively this was the toughest test he’s had for a while, and with the ball he needed more help from Eriksen and particularly Sissoko. Too often he was looking for a progressive pass and people weren’t available around him.

Eriksen – This was his quietest game for a few months. Cheslea did a good job on him – Kante particularly – he still saw a bit more of the ball than Sissoko, but just did not effect the game enough.

Alli – Poor for the first hour or so, improved when dropped deeper.

Son – Really poor game, not involved at all. Kane – Did really well to beat the offside and win the pen (and score it) and did work hard off the ball, but another starved of oxygen.

You have to give credit to Chelsea, I think. They set out to stifle. But we still won the game.

Sissoko will have a good game another time, but that time wasn’t the first leg. It happens.

Last one was the Asian Games, like football at the commonwealth games, i. e. U23 (+ 3 over 23). Son only went as an overage player as it was the easiest to win and avoid military service, otherwise he would not have gone.

The Asian cup, the equivalent of the Euro Cup, is what is on now, and is therefore only 2nd to the world cup. Australia plays in this one but not the Asian Games, since we are only partly Asian apparently. Happy to get rid of the Euro Cup if you want to get rid of the Asian Cup.

It’s the African players that have far more frequent international cup commitments.

Totally agree that our bigger players just weren’t at the races Tuesday. The only thing in their defence, well son and kane anyway is that they are more reliant on others to get the ball to them, and that’s as poor a midfield collective performance as I can recall. Cannot play like that in 2 weeks or we will be out. On the plus side gazaniga continues to impress and the downside just where the hell the logic of selling Toby

Sissoko was pretty solid.he tirelessly runs up and down to close gaps and put in an extra shift to atleast keep us in the game.
Ericksen, dele and son were so lost at some point I thought son was off the pitch.

What this performance suggested to me was that we won’t be in the League Cup final. Let’s hope the next leg provides an inspired tactical improvement.

We still look like a club for which getting to a semi or quarter final represents us at full stretch.

Anyone know if this lad is OK? Zakaria from Gladbach.

And there’s the proof. Sissoko is not better, he’s just been playing against dross.

Son was not great, but I really fear him being away for 6weeks. We have nothing left on the bench. looking at our injuries and squad depth I really wonder how much deeper we can be cut before the average age of our bench is 16 or the quality is lower than Championship…basically how long before N’clueless gets on the bench?
