Good morning.

The Spurs ITK’s didn’t have a good summer. In fact once one begins to put into a percentage that which was called correctly, then factor in blind chance you’re left with a success strike rate a dead Octopus could beat. Have ever been beaten by a dead octopus? I have and it’s humiliating. Her name was Loretta.

Snow according to John Mason Neale is supposed to be deep and crisp and even, but all the ITKS are facing underfoot this winter is black ice and more banana skins.

Damaio not only didn’t happen, it was never happening. We never made an enquiry. How sorry a state of affairs is it when a football agent decides to put you out of your misery and announce this was all made up. The sorriest bar stewards being those of course who perpetuate the lie out of their own facile desire to be popular.

Loic Remy was never really happening. If there was an enquiry it was a casual one made last summer. There will be some cooing over his first appearance for QPR bbut you need perspective one deals like this. Player’s agent? Willie Mackay. £8m in (declared) and wages on top to make a Pharoah want to check his current account balance. If he looks good to you, don’t forget that in part this is largely down to the company he’s keeping. For example, I always stand next to ugly blokes in bars.

Sneijder we did ask about, but it was clear that the player was purely after a swimming pool of money to doggy paddle in. Anyone want to question that hasn’t the snap of him holding a champagne flute aloft on the Galatasaray private jet.

Moutinho seems incredibly unlikely. Why would it? Has the matter of 3rd party ownership evaporated? Has he suddenly decided that to move to the Premier League only to take a pay cut is in actual fact, a good plan?

Negredo has been mentioned in the same breath as us. Why? Because the Daily Mail sellotaped one crackpot idea (there was supposed Chelsea interest prior to them buying Ba) and we supposedly need a striker. It’s cobblers.

Villas-Boas said in plain language after the Man Utd game that not buying a striker was a strategy, a risk, they would take. If a deal for anyone is to yet be done then I’ll be amazed. Of course I’d welcome one, but do not expect one. This squad is far from complete. But I tell you this, what cannot speak cannot lie and the league table says we look alright. For all the ‘we need a striker’ bleating we are scoring more than we let in. If the graph below was on your company’s wall you’d hardly be put on a suicide watch.

Picture 65

So in short all I have for you today is the truth.

Some will bitch that you’ve been given nothing. In which case you enjoy your day carving the names of players you’ve never seen play into hearts on your school desk with your compass.

Spot on Billy. Add to that, Barclays fixing the LIBBOR rate, Virgin Money buying Northern Rock for a huge loss to the country (ie you and me………..I live overseas but still pay UK tax) nothing fishy there eh? Brown selling all of our gold reserves on “The Brown Low”, the expenses row, Bliar and all his facking shenanigans, the whole bailout fiasco, erosion of rights for the middle/working class and poor being eroded away yet the wealthy being rewarded more and more and being less and less accountable.
My son (and his whole generation) have to take work “experience” as students, unpaid, but have to take it as it looks good on the cv and it’s more or less accepted as being how things work now………what a con, could they have got away with that 10 years ago? What next, kids sweeping chimneys?
Things are going in the wrong direction, they are now following the Asian model which is if you have money, you can whatever the fuck you like and bollox to the rest of the citizens
The propoganda machine cunningly gets the anger pointed at the poor and immigrants, history teaches us this…….. the real evil are the politicians, more and more corrupt, year by year, are their pensions going down? Are their wages going down? Are their hours increasing? Get Guy Fawkes in for fucks sake!

    COYS!

The sheer level of greed, incompetence and criminality is staggering, L.O.S. A lot of people from the middle-class down are going to get stung, badly. The next three generations (at the very least) ain’t going to get stung, they’re going to get rodgered up the the arse by a scolding hot poker. But hey, no worries, let’s all celebrate racist Prince Harry’s brave and heroic actions in Afghanistan (plenty of fucking money for that shit)………..hoorah!……………ffs!

Spurs blame £4.3m loss on Euro failings
    inShare Email
    Wednesday 23rd January 2013, 12:04am
    FRANK DALLERES

FAILURE to qualify for last season’s Champions League sent Tottenham into the red for the year ending June 2012, the football club announced yesterday.

Spurs recorded a loss of £4.3m, down from a £0.7m profit the previous year, as revenues fell 12 per cent from £163m to £144m.

The north Londoners said the financial blow “was primarily due to the absence of Champions League football” – estimated to be worth at least £30m in prize money, broadcast and matchday income.

It should not greatly impact Tottenham’s ability to meet European financial fair play (FFP) rules, which stipulate clubs must not lose more than £37m during last season and this term combined.

Spurs said that they continued to “comply with Uefa FFP criteria” and added that they “support its further integration into the Premier League” – a contentious matter among English top-flight sides.

Chairman Daniel Levy said the club’s focus remained “the delivery of an increased capacity stadium”. Spurs have received planning consent to build a new 56,250-seater venue next to White Hart Lane, their current home, but Levy said: “There is much work to be done refining the detailed design and resolving the final development issues.”

The sub-prime property market crash which caused the ‘credit crunch’ (corrupt capitalism) in 2008- which led to recession- which led to austerity, is nothing compared to what will happen when the US bond bubble bursts. Conclusion?- the multi millionaire/billionaire cretins that inhabit Wall Street & the City of London are just a bunch of greedy, corrupt, thieving financial terrorists. Austerity isn’t a 3-4-5 year plan, it’s going to last for decades thanks to these c*nts in Washington & Westminster who have given that scum in the financial markets free reign to do what the f*ck they want with OUR money, which is gone, for good, it ain’t never coming back, we’re talking about trillions here, spunked up the wall!

But hey, never mind. We’ll just carry on scapegoating immigrants and people claiming £71 a week JSA…….it’s their fault………….

Randy Lerner is fucked but we knew there was something up when he let Brad walk as they had all sorts of side deals involving US Footy schools that never happened…

News broke earlier that Colin Murray a Liverpool Fan is to be replaced by Mark Chapman a Manchester United fan, is there no broadcasters available of a neutral type or do BBC really feel that the rest of us should be subjected to Red Mania.
I thought Murray was fairly even in his presentations, given the scripted bias he had to conform to.
One only has to listen too Alan Green on a United commentary to feel the world revolves around Manchester.

  • Finn January 22, 2013 at 11:01 pm

I don’t think its a far jump to suppose that the initial talks between DL and AVB involved DL “selling” THFC’s plan for the future. I’d say its likely that there was provision for some players to come in; (clearly we were in with 20million+ for Mouthino), plus the prospect of growing players with the assistance of the training set-up.

Come September we were considering things as not perfect (no additional striker and not getting Mouthino or Willian), but OK-ish. We thought we’d ‘get by’ with Ade and Defoe, were looking forward to Siggy and interested in Dempsey; all agreed Dembele was a good addition. As it turned out we DID get by, we dropped a lot of points but we ploughed on and have been more consistent that the Arse and are starting to see the cracks we expected to see in West Brom and I think soon, Everton.

We may well be able to drive on like this and get CL qualification, but I think we will struggle and whilst we are the strongest after the top three, injury, bad decisions, weather, Europe and a host of other variables could hurt us; we are not so far in front that we can’t be caught by virtue of a bit of luck either way. For me, relying on luck when there are millions to gain is bad risk management when the addition of a couple of players may secure CL football.

Perhaps a deal for Holtby to come early would cover the midfield shortage, but a goal scorer who can net 10 between now and May would almost certainly give us the momentum and drive to nail the fouth spot.

We do of course now have a different dilemma that we usually do; we are usually sitting here saying “C’mon we’ll never get XXX, why would he come here?” Now of course we actually do have a case, we (again) have good position, we’ve just raised our profile by performances against ManU, we’re still in Europe, we have an excellent bunch of players to play with. The other side of that coin tho’ is that we have a shorter list of players we can seriously improve ourselves with; even some of the wilder names we’ve been linked with would not really be moving in the right direction.

Whilst there does not appear to be any work going on to secure new players, I’d be very suprised if we were inactive behind the scenes; bear in mind we have removed the leaks coming from the driver’s side window, which has muted a lot of speculation by the media. Given who we would see as “improvements”, its a short list. I’d be suprised if AVB will really green light ‘fodder’, especially as his stock must be pretty high in the eyes of the chairman. Maybe its us that need to catch up to the changes in THFC’s modus operandi.

    • DAVID January 22, 2013 at 11:07 pm

Think we will struggle to replace Bale, Lennon and Dembele if they are injured as we have no like for like replacements and the striker situation is also a concern.

Now Sandro is out for the season we rely on Parker staying fit which is asking a lot.

If the rumours are true that Diame has a 3.5 million release clause we should buy him. He is a natural replacement for Sandro/ Parker and is worth a lot more than 3.5 million.

    • kojac January 23, 2013 at 12:13 am

bringing holtby in now would make sense,i think we’d be crazy not to bolster even if it’s just more back up we don’t want o get caught with our trousers down, audere est facere, the arse, everton & liverpool can still catch us easily if we f*ck up,we need to win or next couple of league games to remind them how big their problem is,norwich and west brom away coming up

we got lyon in the ropa too that will be a tough gig

      • Razspur January 23, 2013 at 12:20 am

Lloris will be immense against Lyon, can’t wait for St Valentines Day.

        • kojac January 23, 2013 at 12:38 am

unless avb plays old brad in the ropa, should be good we don’t go to lyon too often as they were usually in the CL while we were ropa doping,a decent away trip for the loyal fans

    • onedavemackay January 23, 2013 at 12:50 am

As always that’s a thoughtful and I think fairly accurate summary Finn.

My impression is that the club never want any of their player objectives out in the open for obvious reasons. I can’t remember anyone flagging up Holtby till almost the day it happened and Fryers seemed completely out the picture once he joined Liege. So if we are looking to bring someone in this month the club certainly aren’t going to advertise it.

I imagine that the blooming obvious to most fans is the same blooming obvious to DL and AVB ergo we need a prolific striker more than anything else but they will only go for someone who meets AVBs criteria and if no-one is available they will not make do with anyone else. “What about Dempsey ?” I hear some cry. Well Dempsey may have been a last day bargain but he happens to be a typical AVB type in that he can play in several positions and can change the emphasis of the team say from 451 to 442 etc.

That is one of the reasons Holtby is such a great buy as he can play wide or down the middle. I agree that Bale and Lennon do not have obvious replacements bar Townsend but apart from the striker we are well covered.

      • TMWNN January 23, 2013 at 1:14 am

It’s been ‘blooming obvious’ for far too long, ODM.

        Dempsey, although a trier, isn’t a striker.

    • TMWNN January 23, 2013 at 1:10 am

Good to see you back, Finn. The latter stages of the EL and (hopefully) The Cup have been overlooked by many, not to mention how strong Liverpool are now looking. Make no mistake, we need to strengthen now to avoid another season that will fizzle out. Parker’s a good player, but has nowhere near the energy of Sandro. At his age, and with his injury form, relying on him being fit for the rest of the season is crazy. Let’s hope Holtby (who will be signed this window) can cover. Going into the final third with Defoe and Adebayor as the front two is suicide.

      • Finn January 23, 2013 at 2:41 am

        Thanks TNWNN and ODM…..

I think Holtby will alleviate some pressure in the middle and we are probably able to rotate the likes of Jake and Thudd in some games too. the Striker question is another matter tho’. Dempsey may wellbe a useful utility type player; he’s also a yank and given the dosh to be made in the US and the slow but painful ingress of “real, actual football” into that sporting wasteland probably a good investment. Most yanks are unaware of the EPL but with 300 million even a minority sport is good business.

i heard a story of two shoe salesmen who went to Africa; one phoned home and said “nothing here they don’t wear shoes” the other phoned hiome and said “how good is this no-one owns any shoes”. I sense that the US has not yet embraced EPL and that theyhave therefore not embraced any prefereneces for teams. What will influence thoat choice when it is made? How many Dempsey shirts will be flogged and how many kids in 15 years time will adopt their parents preferences and get shirts, sign on for live video casts etc for THFC. Shrewd thinking here methinks.

Meanwhile, I dearly hope we can land a grade ‘A’ striker; Ade worries me and Defoe, despite having probably his best season, is still not convincing from one game to another….. I mean no-one double marks him like they do Bale!

        • onedavemackay January 23, 2013 at 9:29 am

Brad on 5live made reference to Spurs US plans that were part of the reason he extended his contact.

I wonder if Spurs US plan includes some financial tie in with AEG ?

          • Finn January 24, 2013 at 2:04 am

We tour there, we seem to have links which have supported Beckham, Keane etc. We have a deal with Under Armour…. there’s a raft of connections which are a toehold. My view is that we can be an early bird here and the worm is the hearts and minds, that bias or whatever emotinal attachement it is that leads a person to pledge support to a team, a pledge which as we know last a lifetime and beyond (kids etc).

The commercial value of that in the medium to long term is immense and probably only ManU are also serious in seeking to exploit it.

  • kojac January 22, 2013 at 10:00 pm

“Do not forsake me oh my darlin'” sang in the film by Tex Ritter, made popular by Frankie Laine. The film came out in 1952 (the year I was born). Incidently, John Wayne detested the film as Gary Cooper’s character,Will Kane threw his marshal’s badge in the dust. Distinctly Un-American.

we all get sucked into these new youngerish managers :I-got-an-idea:

    • Essexian76 January 22, 2013 at 10:01 pm

Don’t think Lerner would stick by him-surely after appointing McLiesh and now Lambert, he’ll look a fool, especially seeing how O’Niell’s starting to turn Sunderland around? As for Lambert, he’s still having to get to frips with Prem football, but I still think he’ll come good in the end, manager’s have to learn the hard way sometimes and a little adversity isn’t always a bad thing (AVB)!!

      • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 10:07 pm

        Adkins is available !

        • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 10:09 pm

Newcastle are trying to buy their way out of trouble, Villa will have to dabble as well though not to the same extent.

      • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 10:16 pm

All bookmakers bar Stan James have suspended betting on Lambert being at Villa on the last day of the current season. That has happened since tonights result.

        • Essexian76 January 22, 2013 at 10:23 pm

If you were a Villa fan, you’d have to ask yourself what Lerner’s actually getting out of it? He’s not a fan as far as I know, he seems to be going nowhere with them, nor any apparent ambition for them? And some moan about ENIC and our chairman, the mind boggles!

          • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 10:31 pm

Think he saw it as a project, an investment but would need to spend get them on a run for confidence, move up the table and get out with a profit. Problem is he’s running out of time and options, result a big loss.
He is in so deep i don’t think he can even think of cutting his losses.

            • Essexian76 January 22, 2013 at 10:34 pm

Rock and a hard place, but he’s not short of a few bob, having sold his US franchise-so, I guess the anser must be to just throw shedloads of money at it, as many on here often seem to suggest is the cure for all ill’s

              • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 10:44 pm

Problem with throwing shed loads at it now is the realisation that come end of season he could have a stable of overpaid players in the Championship, that’s when the Banks move in and he has to deal in hard cash.
If he doesn’t bite the bullet now and change manager/buy upgrades he will be relegated.
Who in their right mind would buy a football club ?

                • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 10:53 pm

Look at Newcastle, Astley bought them for £133m and paid off their Debts, all but 10% of them. Had he sold at the end of last season his return is estimated at £254m. what are they worth today ? My guess is a little over £195m and that would tumble if their current spend (£12m) does not help them escape relegation.

                • seattlespursguy January 22, 2013 at 10:57 pm

He probably thought it would be similar to owning a team in the US. But over here in the states, shared revenues and no relegation keeps even the worst teams making a bit of money, with the future pay out from selling the team insuring a profit down the line. English footy is a very different financial model; a much less profitable one.

                  • Essexian76 January 22, 2013 at 11:25 pm

But you’d have thought he’d have know that before buying?

Brilliant info tonight on tv packages, and delivered in a thoroughly entertaining cut and thrust kind of way. It would take eons scrolling through Google to get this information and here it is for free. I do listen to our games mostly on the radio but in a fit of pique I had the Virgin Box removed after H.Webb inexplicably gave a penalty kick against us at Old Trafford. One could almost say I had a “Fergie” moment. I don’t think my wife would go for any subscription tv as she wants the new “watch yesterday’s programs” Freetime-Freesat set-up. The temptation to futilely try and argue the toss over some kind of sports package is overwhelming, but the look on her face says I’m staring defeat in the face. Very disappointed that ESPN have got our match on Sunday. :Tears:

    • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 9:28 pm

Just have to go down the pub then Boy, always a remedy.

    • kojac January 22, 2013 at 9:59 pm

i think freesat is pretty good and if you have internet you can hook the box up to it,if its a decent box i think for something can’t remember what now,but if the radio will do no real need for subcriptions unless you really want to pay for all that

yeah that is the downside i’d think leeds v tottenham was nailed on the itv

          58. So close to 4-2 – Coulthirst shot cleared off line, then he’s denied point blank by Rosqiue. Close.

          • seattlespursguy January 22, 2013 at 8:41 pm

            75. GOAL 4-2 SPURS – Ward speculative effort from 35 yards misjudged by Rosqiue and sailed into top corner for 4-2

            • seattlespursguy January 22, 2013 at 9:00 pm

              84. GOAL 5-2 SPURS – McEvoy taps in after Rosqiue saved from Coulthirst. 5-2

    :Hello:

  • UselessC*nt January 22, 2013 at 6:41 pm

    Dear Mr. Hotspur

Since you have chosen to ban me (and my IP) for disagreeing with you in a way in which you couldn’t readily discount with your usual approach of patronizing insults and abuse, I think I have now lost all respect for you entirely. Not only are you proven to be a man of limited intelligence and wit – even if you have somehow convinced a small number of sheepish followers that you are informed, witty and erudite – you are also a vain and conceited coward. You say you can deal with c*nts like me disagreeing with you. But you obviously can’t. That’s OK, it’s your corner of the WWW, and you are entitled to populate it with people who either agree with your every opinionated and logically redundant uttering or else those you find easy to patronize and bully.

    • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 6:50 pm

Don’t Panic Love, take a leaf out of my book, i have been banned numerous times, but, like a Phoenix from the Ashes, i’m back, contrite, much less opinionated and ready to tow the line so his policy has worked and i only take 4 pills a day.

    • Summerspur January 22, 2013 at 7:07 pm

      So what ya saying?

    • jfdit January 22, 2013 at 7:11 pm

little bit of advice, I never agree with every opinion on here but in the main I’ve always found that if posters’ are reasonably polite and intelligent with their point of view no one inc HH throws their dummies out the prams too much even if their opinion is the polar opposite to their own.

if you come across as a rude numpty you’ll get short shrift, someone has to have overall control and to his credit HH has always tried to operate a sound operation. I also disagree with the sheepish followers bit, there are long time users of this site who have a bit of banter but if they disagree with the host or other posters will call it how they see it.

I’ve been coming on here since the Jol days and give HH some credit, he puts a fair amount of work/effort into it and invariably it’s the most interesting and amusing spurs site on the web

      • BrizzleSpur January 22, 2013 at 8:08 pm

        Yep, what he said. :Approve:

    • onedavemackay January 22, 2013 at 9:06 pm

I’ve been trying to get Harry to ban me for years.

      What’s your secret?

      • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 9:45 pm

Perhaps i have inadvertantly offended one or two subscribers, certainly never my intention to do so, also Harry gets miffed if proven wrong or if he fares badly in an exchange of views, but hey thats his problem, i am not offended by getting banned for a few weeks by a cheap T-Shirt peddler, just find it immature and a little funny.

        • theboyhotspur January 22, 2013 at 10:29 pm

Raz you got sin binned for winding up every poor sod that came near your for about a month. I was actually far too slow in clocking what you were up to. So playing to the gallery now is somewhat disingenuous.

          • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 10:36 pm

Simply answering ODM’s question honestly, i do not hold grudges and only one of us is guilty of playing to the gallery.

            • theboyhotspur January 23, 2013 at 2:45 am

Heh. Well Raz mate, your wind ups remain frozen in time on at the old address.

              • Razspur January 23, 2013 at 11:08 am

Wind ups, take a look in the mirror HH, pot-kettle !

    • theboyhotspur January 22, 2013 at 10:19 pm

      Dear Useless etc…

I’ve banned nobody. Did you use a rude word that got stopped by the bulk standard swear filtering?

    • TMWNN January 23, 2013 at 12:52 am

Don’t be so precious. I often disagree with some of the idiot blogs; I think half of them are put up there for a response. Granted, there are some arse lickers on here looking for a bone, but HH is by and large open minded to a different point of view. If we all licked his arse, this blog would be shite. I’m only speaking for myself, but if it weren’t for the few who can think for themselves, this blog would turn into something akin to a Tottenham Facebook full of bores cheer leading their ‘friends’, and calling those who disagree with their picket fenced dreams all sorts of names.

      • LLL January 23, 2013 at 1:22 pm

Yes maybe, except that he did ban me. See his post at 4.12pm – after which I couldn’t post under this or any other email. I hadn’t done any swears or whatever so I think that rings a bit hollow. So, in other words, whose being precious exactly?

  • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 6:34 pm

Too much footy on Sky, i can’t keep up with it, Sky+ Box if full of games i still haven’t watched, would need a week off just to catch up. Not seeing as much of my partner due to Footy, though she was Noisey on Sunday but our LMG was a Godsend, made my year already.

    • kojac January 22, 2013 at 6:41 pm

spurs games are enough for me these days,radio/motd is fine for everything else taht’s why i just want internet or tottenham deal

      • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 6:57 pm

Wots a radio, some sort of capsule to watch live games on ?

        • kojac January 22, 2013 at 6:59 pm

  • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 6:27 pm

My total is line rental + Broadband (£21:50) + All Sky Channels except Movies (£22) = £43:50

    • kojac January 22, 2013 at 6:37 pm

what thats broadband and phoneline for 21.50,my unlimited braodband use to be about £22 plus phoneline a month, phoneline is always about £15,virgin is quite good as you don’t need a phoneline if they are around but being out in the sticks virgin cable aren’t abotu too much

      • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 6:42 pm

I got a special deal on BB and line rental, think it saves me £5 on the normal price, then when i was with them 8 months they offered Sky TV + Sports Channels for an extra £22.

    • Essexian76 January 22, 2013 at 8:21 pm

      mine’s 17.00 bb+ 22 sky 39pm

  • kojac January 22, 2013 at 5:51 pm

can you actually pay SKY or any of these greedy c*nts to watch footy on the internet without being involved with their TV stuff or is all or nothing with these pricks

    • Astro Spur January 22, 2013 at 5:55 pm

Pretty sure it’s all or nothing, with Sky anyway.

    • jfdit January 22, 2013 at 6:02 pm

koj, you can get a deal out of sky for the sports channels, I called to cancel mine and ended up on a contract all channels except movies for 22 quid a month down from over 50 quid – I’ll suffer the (unts for a fiver a week

      • jfdit January 22, 2013 at 6:06 pm

in the alternative have you got a mate with sky, if so lend him your computer and let him register sky go on it. hey presto all the sports channels over broadband or mobile

I’ve got three portables I can watch it on, handy when out and about

        • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 6:12 pm

Need mates for that one though….difficult.
I’ve got Sky Go on the ipad and iphone along with the House all for £22, magic.

        • kojac January 22, 2013 at 6:15 pm

is that without having to use their password all the time,i know about getting better deals too,BT offered me much better broadband deal when i rang to cancel,i might just have to go in with BT they have some footy now next season don’t they,i’m on the move and need some new broaband soon

          • jfdit January 22, 2013 at 6:28 pm

I’ve only logged in once and never logged out so always good to go, I take my laptop on site and watch the sky sports news while pretending to work

            • kojac January 22, 2013 at 6:34 pm

sounds good and blogging too

              • jfdit January 22, 2013 at 6:42 pm

I think my guys prefer it if I’m locked away in a warm office out of their hair rather than on site

at least in the office I can get entertained by my secretary if the mood takes me

                • kojac January 22, 2013 at 6:46 pm

                  is he nice then :Who-s-the-man:

                  • jfdit January 22, 2013 at 6:48 pm

                    :Be-Happy:

      • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 6:09 pm

I got the same deal for 12 months, just tell them you are leaving and the offer you 12 months @ £22, a great deal, when the 12 months is up i’m going to try it again, if they don’t play ball it’s back to ropey streams for a few months until Sky send you a half price offer in the post rather than lose you to some other provider.

        • onedavemackay January 22, 2013 at 6:14 pm

I’m with BT. ESPN is free and I pay an extra £17 (I think) for Sky Sports

          • kojac January 22, 2013 at 6:21 pm

            probably where i am heading

        • kojac January 22, 2013 at 6:27 pm

but still on ropey streams to watch spurs though aren’t we,sky repaly all the games though right, its been a long time since i was with sky

          • jfdit January 22, 2013 at 6:37 pm

the deal they signed me back up on was ongoing i.e. not time limited @ 22 per month and leave anytime for 1 month notice. I think it helped that I had actually cancelled and told their retentions department I wasn’t interested as I couldn’t afford it anymore 😉

            • kojac January 22, 2013 at 6:44 pm

that’s not bad they usually hook you up for an 18 monther when you cut a deal,£22 a month isn’t bad for all the sport and shit but it all adds up with broadband, phoneline and god knows what else in monthlys

            • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 7:03 pm

Sky always have a contract, you have agreed to a time limited contract, either 12m or 18 months, you just didn’t realise it, but you will if you think you can get out of it with a months notice. Probably the same one i agreed too, 12m at reduced price rising to full price on completion. If you don’t want to renew at full price notify them 1 month prior to completion. You just didn’t understand what you agreed too. Maybe he was foreign.

              • jfdit January 22, 2013 at 7:16 pm

sorry me old china, contract law is my strong point in my business, I was in process of selling property so wanted no tie in,
my contract is rolling month to month but rate agreed has no review date

unusual but quite a sweet deal

                • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 7:21 pm

Doesn’t matter wether you are moving the location of contract or not they are happy to change location but they Never allow provision of Service without a cast iron Contract. You’ve got it wrong but if you’re deluded that suits them also.

                  • jfdit January 22, 2013 at 7:28 pm

like I said, no tie in and 1 months notice required

I know this as I’m due to exchange contracts this week and I’ve already given the notice to sky despite agreeing the new deal in september ’12

I can port the deal to new property if I want but only if I can get planning consent to put dish up which is unlikely.

virgin media for me next I think

                    • Essexian76 January 22, 2013 at 8:19 pm

Try Virgin for a year, they’ll install thier kit, which means after a year you cancel, but you no longer need a telephone line and apy line rental, as their internet is cable-so, I have net via Virgin and Sky without the line rental charges for a phone that’s never used..worth looking at?

                    • onedavemackay January 22, 2013 at 9:10 pm

Once you’ve had a contract with Sky and tell them you’re off they will do almost anything to keep you including monthly contracts

                    • Essexian76 January 22, 2013 at 10:28 pm

@ Raz.. Once past the inital 12 months, my Sky contract is a monthly 30 day notice cancellation, same as my Virgin BB

                    • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 11:02 pm

If that’s the case then i am wrong and i humbly apologise to jfdit, ‘twould seem that Sky have given me erronious details and i could have a monthly rolling contract. Will be on to them in the morning.

                    • Essexian76 January 23, 2013 at 12:10 am

Absolutely Raz, once the first year expires-it’s 30 day, unless you take out another year

  • kojac January 22, 2013 at 5:46 pm

well in the end it’s what AVB wants to bring in and give a go,i’m quite happy to try people like hooper if we are not going to pay up for the supastars,it’s all going to help for the big push and who knows some of these lesser lights might have the scoring knack for the mighty spurs, you never know

  • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 5:43 pm

I know it’s unlikely but if Dundee Utd can hold Celtic and draw at half time, then capitulate @ 100/30 it would get me a nice £30 double up as Ivory Coast were same price earlier.

    • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 8:43 pm

Bugger Celtic, backed them 1-0 and 2-0 HT so got a £20 up at 4/1 = £100 but £70 of that was laid out so only £30 profit. Would have preferred Dundee Utd to have held out until half time.

  • seattlespursguy January 22, 2013 at 5:08 pm

Based on previous windows, my take is Levy will push the Holtby deal across for small money near the end of the window. Schalke will take it because even 500K (or whatever) is better than a bag of nothing in six months. Just listening to AVB it seems he wants another striker and Levy will wait on a last minute deal. I don’t think the Celtic kid is goer, but the Hamburg striker (Heung-Min Son) could tickle Levy’s urge to sell shirts in Asia.

    • CBusSpur January 22, 2013 at 5:38 pm

Something about the link to the Korean striker at Hamburg seems to have a ring of truth…

    • onedavemackay January 22, 2013 at 6:12 pm

Levy and AVB will not bother with 2nd best. If they can’t buy one of their first choice targets they’ll stick with what’s we have till the summer.

      The Saha days are over

      • Jamie January 22, 2013 at 6:58 pm

        I second that.

Lewandowski’s contract has a year on it in the summer and his agent has already come out and said they won’t renew.

Dortmund are pragmatists like us and will deal if we manage to convince the player.

United fancy him but have too many strikers.

        • jfdit January 22, 2013 at 7:23 pm

he’s a blinding player that boy, I quite like the idea of getting bundesliga players, better quality and attitude.

Muller at Bayern is a gem too

Our biggest problem which I’m sure ODM will concur with is the standard of player we know need to improve us has gone up, the likes of crouch and pav just won’t cut the mustard

  • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 4:52 pm

Toure free kick on 88mins deftly off the heel of Gervinho to make it 2-1 to Ivory Coast HT & FT bet up . Magic.

  • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 4:43 pm

Neither Toure nor Gervinho are that impressive, looks like Togo are parking a huge Bus for the last 9 mins, sh*t my Dongle has just dropped out and i won’t be able to get it on the ipad.

  • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 4:36 pm

Bony on to replace Drogba, bony is top scorer in Ederivise, hopefully an improvement.

  • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 4:29 pm

70 mins gone still 1-1, this is all geared up for Drogba to nick the winner.

  • xildnparadise January 22, 2013 at 4:05 pm

    Hey Raz,

The story on Altidore… Local boy from here in Boca Raton… Very much a love/hate relationship with Juergen….

Even though he’s been knocking them in for fun in the Erdvisie, he was left out of the US sqaud for some of the World Cup qualifiers…

Has all the god given tools (size, strength, quickness) but his work rate at times is the polar opposite of Dempsey, at least when Dafoe disappears you can’t see him…. Was knighted as the next big thing in MLS at age 17, was sold for relatively big money to Valencia and has been a journeyman ever since. This is the first year he has shown any sort consistent form.

Bottom line is that it will take medium money (5-10) to get him and you don’t know if you’re getting Ba or Raziak.

Can anyone tell me about the Hooper child? Supposedly big chip on his shoulder for THFC as he trained with us as a Ute (Gratuitous My Cousin Vinny reference) and we dropped him at age 14. My time at the lane was during the glory days of Archie, so have a soft spot for Strikers from North of the border.

Is he anything or is this more Sky looking for viewers and internet hits? COYS!

    • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 4:19 pm

He went to Valencia for £8.5m, then loanspells at Hull ans Bursaspor, much better player for AZ who only paid £1.5m, down to coaching, our coaches could get the best of him at a moderate cost £5-£6.5m.
Was impressive in CONCAF inc MOTM awards, Klinnsman wants more from him, i believe that would come from playing for us. Klinnsman does however reckon he is a player of the future for US.

      • seattlespursguy January 22, 2013 at 4:55 pm

I’m a fan of Jozy. Huge talent but not consistent previously. Spending time in Holland seems to be agreeing with him

    • onedavemackay January 22, 2013 at 6:19 pm

When sources say “we understand THFC are believed to be” don’t hold your breath. No idea what Hooper is like but as I’ve already said unless he’s exactly what AVB is looking for we won’t be buying him.

  • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 4:01 pm

Ade missed with a volley on 40 mins, Togo equalise in injury time, ball bundled in from corner 1-1.

  • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 3:57 pm

German press are favouring Falcao over Suarez to Bayern, seems £46 buy out clause won’t put them off and Athletico need the money. Relief for Liverpool as it looked like Suarez who is keen on CL football and whose Agent is Pep Guadiola’s brother was working on a deal to take him to Germany.

    • TMWNN January 22, 2013 at 3:59 pm

His front teeth are already in the vicinity.

  • TMWNN January 22, 2013 at 3:57 pm

We shouldn’t sign anyone at any price, ever.

If he’s too cheap and unproven, he’s obviously not going to be any better than what we’ve got.

If he’s too expensive, he’ll obviously a) put the club in danger of ‘doing a Leeds’ b) not want to come to poor little Tottenham or c) be unproven in the PL and possibly not any better than what we’ve got.

It’s a brilliant strategy, and one which Joseph Heller would champion.

    • Frontwheel 2 January 22, 2013 at 4:10 pm

You’d still be moaning like a pussy no matter what happens, its in your nature it seems

      • TMWNN January 22, 2013 at 4:38 pm

That’s right. I do only come on here to moan. If you’re going to get all excited and upset, don’t bother reading my comments or wasting your time replying to them, because the day I stop moaning on here or wanting Spurs to do better is a long way off. All you seem to do is moan about others moaning.

I’m not interested in your defeatist attitude, but you’re welcome to it.

Believe it or not, and I know it’s hard for some, there is a real world out there, a world where you can actually talk to others without moaning or being defeatist, some of these ‘others’ are also called friends. Friends you can have a laugh and a joke with. You ought to try it.

        • Frontwheel 2 January 22, 2013 at 4:50 pm

God that was deep, still a load of shit, just deeper.Every letter typed seems to say I love my super Spurs more than you,its because I care that makes me such a moaning (unt.

  • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 3:39 pm

Adebayor missed a sure thing on 2 mins when he tried to round the keeper, he should have shot from inside 10 yds, has laid on a couple of passes accross goal but the Togos did not read it and was wasted.

    • Astro Spur January 22, 2013 at 5:18 pm

      Sounds familiar.

  • Cheeky Bill January 22, 2013 at 3:35 pm

Suddenly the Gary Hooper rumour seems to have taken legs. Is this yet another example of the utter bo**ocks we have been treated to this transfer window?

    • LLL January 22, 2013 at 3:43 pm

Yes probably. Although there’s definitely less utter bollocks going around this window than the days of Redknapp.

      • Cheeky Bill January 22, 2013 at 4:30 pm

So just the one bollock then?

    • Astro Spur January 22, 2013 at 5:18 pm

      Seems like it.

  • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 3:33 pm

Seems Talksport are onto this Hooper link, reporting AVB and Sir Les going up to watch him tonight.
Watch yourselves up there when it gets dark……those pavements are very slippy.
Must be big money if it takes both to carry the money bags. Stay out of Govan.
    Hope the snow has stopped.
Dundee Utd, looks like a home win 3-0.

  • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 3:24 pm

First quarter score Ivory Coats 1-0 Togo, (Y Toure 8mins) now 1/16 hardly worth a punt.

  • LLL January 22, 2013 at 3:10 pm

Interesting stuff about his release from the club. You’d have to think he’d be ‘up for it’ if he did come in

  • spudulike January 22, 2013 at 2:50 pm

I heard that we might buy someone or we might not, and that DL might have flown to Europe the other day, or he may have gone north, but one thing’s for sure, we might know something definite by 1st February.

  • TMWNN January 22, 2013 at 2:33 pm

The next master strategy is to wait for the window to shut, Adebayor to lose interest (if he hasn’t already) and for Defoe to get injured so we can play without strikers. We will defend our way into the CL.

    • LLL January 22, 2013 at 2:36 pm

It’s ingenious. Who knew that Levy and AVB were such high-stakes mavericks?

  • BrizzleSpur January 22, 2013 at 2:12 pm
    • LLL January 22, 2013 at 2:16 pm

Why so grumpy? Seems quite a good idea to me… Scored 4 champions league goals this season and good league stats… Levy type age bracket and not too expensive… Although it doesn’t seem to sit with the ingenious strategy that HH has exclusively revealed.

      • LLL January 22, 2013 at 2:21 pm

He’s also a local lad who started out at Spurs.

        • BrizzleSpur January 22, 2013 at 2:24 pm

So you approve? Respectable goal tally in inferior leagues and yes Essex born I think. 25 years old… but £10M?

It was the article that befuddled me with it’s lack of sources, an example of speculation.

Anyway, you’ll be delighted to know the chap has his very own website,http://www.garyhooper88.com/index.html

          • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 2:32 pm

Jozy Antidore is much better and would be less expensive Daniel, with PL experience. Ask Dempsey !

          • LLL January 22, 2013 at 2:34 pm

I approve because I think that we are pretty desperate in our need to strengthen and this deal doesn’t look too bad. Some people will say it’s better not to sign anyone than ‘just anyone’ but we do actually need numbers in that position. He looks capable of scoring some goals in the PL and doesn’t look like a Rasziak type deal so why not? If it helps us achieve CL with a few goals then we can take stock in the Summer. Defoe will probably be moved on at 30 years old anyway, and who knows what will happen with Adebayor? Meaning we might make a bigger striker investment with CL in the bag. And if that means also moving this lad on again, well the financial side of it – the resale options – don’t look too bad.

They say they have turned down 5m but would take 10m which means they will probably accept something inbetween.

And the website is really neat, better than Jermain’s. I’m sold.

            • Essexian76 January 22, 2013 at 4:21 pm

If we sign Hooper now for 10m, I can tell you here and now we’ll be trying to off load him in a season or two for a fraction of that to a championship side desperate to stay up

              • Astro Spur January 22, 2013 at 5:16 pm

I can see that happening! Doubt there’s anything to it though, not exactly an AVB type of player.

                • Essexian76 January 22, 2013 at 6:33 pm

If we don’t sign him then I hope I’m right-If we do-then I hope I’m very wrong, but from what I’ve seen of him, not a 10m or even 2m player-I’d prefer to go with a very young prospect if it’s finance that’s the issue-like doing a deal with Sunderland Rose and a few quid for Wickham and Son from Hamburg-that’s risk worth taking IMO

        • BrizzleSpur January 22, 2013 at 2:30 pm

Apparently he had a 20 minute trial and we said “no”. Which incidentally may have forced him to become a better player. £10M is a big lump of money for us to spend though.

          • LLL January 22, 2013 at 2:40 pm

At 14 – he was with our youth set up from 7 years old.

    • Frontwheel 2 January 22, 2013 at 3:30 pm

Nothing wrong with Hooper Brizzle. Our want to spend a lot wanna be fans(the constantly moaning fucks)would have turned their noses up at Mitchu because he only cost £2m.

      • jfdit January 22, 2013 at 5:53 pm

I personally couldn’t give two shits how much we spend on players, the quality is the key issue. Michu looks a super player, very composed in front of goal.

my view is our scouts are simply not up to scratch, I can’t think of one gem they’ve unearthed

any decent players we’ve signed were well regarded before we got them, they seem to recommend average players with high fees

  • rich January 22, 2013 at 2:11 pm

We all know Levy will pull a rabbit out of his kippa! But who? He loves a good bargain. Willian on strike might be the one.

  • BrizzleSpur January 22, 2013 at 2:05 pm

So it’s all a load of cobblers then? Shame, I liked the idea that they were planning some shrew business this window not only in Holtby and Zeke but maybe a striker too. Even if it were just a young’n. A fresh pair of legs to come on after 86mins of watching Defoe shoot and wince. Although I still like Defoe, he should of put one of his chances away against ManU. Not that I’m unhappy with the result.

    • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 2:11 pm

You are unhappy, that’s disappointment, i know because i’ve been there, Defoe not being one inch taller Last season against City, then Ballotelli killing us, disappointment, disappointment Nurse Nurse it’s disappointment i tell you, disappointment !

      • BrizzleSpur January 22, 2013 at 2:17 pm

Ha! It’s not disappointment it’s indifference.
It’s not Defoe’s fault he’s still on our books, he’s still with us because we haven’t found anyone better.

    • Peter Ogden January 22, 2013 at 2:15 pm

I still think Daniel will come up with something.Maybe like Gary Hooper from Celtic, who has refused a new contract which I think expires next year.He is ex Tottenham Academy, scored twice last weekend, has scored I think 20 goals for Celtic this season,so is their topcorer.Norwich offfered 5 m,but were turned down.He is 24,and definately worth say 7.5.Just the sort of player that Danny would bring in.Roy Hodgeson is also looking at him for England apparently.Thoughts anybody.

  • TMWNN January 22, 2013 at 1:57 pm

Is this some sort of wind up?

Adding the little graph at the end is either a royal piss take, or the action of someone with their head up their own aris.

Are you watching the games? Defoe has scored once in the last 8 league games, Adebayor had scored once in the last 10 before he went on a paid holiday, and you believe that this is a calculated strategy?

You nearly had me there for a minute.

  • kojac January 22, 2013 at 1:53 pm

supa luka coming back for bale is what i read on the side of a van walking to the shops to get some milk, anything is possible with Levy

Adebayor might do the job when he gets back, dempsey and defoe are good back up strikers,be nice to have a hard working striker who got the job done before we go 1-0 down but that is real fantasy stuff

    • spuds4me January 22, 2013 at 7:26 pm

Ade can stay in africa and search for livingstone as far as i’m concerned – at least JD has a go, and is always available.

        He just mentioned your name

  • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 1:10 pm

Some may find this interesting, i have used the stats to try and determine which clubs are overachieving and which ones are underachieving.
EPL Positions giving Relative Squad Market Values.

    01. Manchester United……..£385m
    02. Manchester City…………£440m
    03. Chelsea……………………..£340m
    04. Tottenham Hotspur…….£235m
    05. Everton……………………..£110m
    06. Arsenal……………………..£240m
    07. Liverpool…………………..£205m
    08. West Brom………………..£71.5m
    09. Swansea…………………….£67.5m
    10. Stoke City………………….£83.5m
    11. Sunderland………………..£105m
    12. West Ham Utd…………..£91.0m
    13. Norwich City…………….£53.0m
    14. Fulham……………………..£70.0m
    15. Southampton……………..£63.5m
    16. Newcastle Utd……………£140m
    17. Aston Villa………………..£105.0m
    18. Reading…………………….£41.0m
    19. Wigan……………………….£69.0m
    20. Queens Park Rangers…..£105m

From the above table i would deduce that Everton, West Brom,Swansea and Stoke are overachieving wheras Newcastle, Aston Villa and QPR are seriously underachieving.
Tottenham are about right but it is not difficult to see the massive financial jump to the Top 3.

    • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 1:13 pm

It certainly proves Moyes to be the shrewdest manager in the league, given that he has been in post such a long time.

      • LLL January 22, 2013 at 1:20 pm

Honourable mention for Chris Hughton too, on these standings…

      • spuds4me January 22, 2013 at 7:23 pm

and his mob have hit the woodwork more than any other pl team and suffered lots of draws (an affliction that could be coming to us).

    • Astro Spur January 22, 2013 at 1:14 pm

How the hell is Arsenal’s squad more expensive than ours? We have a far better squad IMO.

      • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 1:18 pm

We are all a little biased, assumption does not however equal fact.

        • Astro Spur January 22, 2013 at 1:28 pm

Seriously though, I would value our squad as more expensive, especially without RVP now.

          • spudulike January 22, 2013 at 2:43 pm

monetary value doesn’t always equal quality…

            • Astro Spur January 22, 2013 at 5:12 pm

Let me reiterate, i think our squad is worth more and are better players!

    • LLL January 22, 2013 at 1:18 pm

How do they work out the relative squad market values? Is it just, as I’d guess, what they think our squad would command if it was all sold? If so, another way to see how we might be financially competing would be to see how much the squad cost in the first place.

      • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 1:23 pm

Cost is of no relevance, Market Value is actual Transfer Value in todays marketplace. Like Delboy with a suitcase…wing Duo of Lennon and Bale £72 million, will throw in a Walker & Jenas for £77m now i can’t say fairer than that Ladies.

        • LLL January 22, 2013 at 1:39 pm

No relevance to this table maybe, but of relevance financially, to see which clubs have done best in transfer recruitment and value. In terms of annual revenue, for instance the table reads something like this:

          Man Utd
          Arsenal
          Chelsea
          Liverpool
          Spurs
          Man City
          Villa
          Newcastle
          Everton
          West Ham

Which would suggest that some clubs are generally over-performing and others badly under-performing (Of course, this table doesn’t take account for the added ‘ghost’ revenue of clubs such as City and Chelsea from their rich owners).

          • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 1:50 pm

The table Title definition is Relative Squad Market Values, what we deduce from them is matter of opinion based on many different factors.
            Original Cost
            Number of Games in PL
            Injuries
Change of Position within a Team
            Age
            Etc etc

          • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 2:06 pm

By the way LLL ” the table reads something like this” is like saying ” i’m going to South Africa on Safari, i hope to see a few Animals” or last Weekends Results were Liverpool 5 Norwich 0, i think, Man City 2 Fulham 0 Probably, Tottenham Hotspur 1 Manchester United 1 yes def, positive about that one.

        Good point!

    • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 1:33 pm

        31/12/12

  • LLL January 22, 2013 at 12:39 pm

HH, the worst type of blogs you do, much, much worse than the ones where you pretend to know about soccerball and tactics and whatever, are the ones where you pretend to know what’s going on behind the scenes at our club. You aren’t fooling anyone, except for perhaps a handful of fools.

    • Astro Spur January 22, 2013 at 12:49 pm

You don’t need to have any insider knowledge to predict with 90% accuracy that we won’t buy anyone of significance in the Jan transfer window. In all fairness you need only look at what Levy usually does in Jan, which is usually nothing , but sometimes he can still surprise us, just more likely in the summer rather than now!

Still doesn’t stop most of us from hoping though, especially when our need for goals to stay in the top 4 is so important right now.

      • LLL January 22, 2013 at 1:01 pm

HH says that THFC never made a single enquiry about Damiao, even though AVB has repeatedly admitted we are always interested in him and that Spurs were interested in him before he came here. Now either HH has some interesting ITK with some real inside info or else he is just sitting at his desk making random stuff up which doesn’t even make any sense.

We also did ask about Sniejder, apparently. Uh, Ok. If you say so.

Remy was never happening. All the facts would seem to suggest that we were indeed interested in him when Redknapp was here, perhaps AVB doesn’t fancy him. That’s what I’d ‘guess’. To say as fact that we were never interested when you obviously made this up is rather arrogant.

HH also said that AVB is taking a calculated risk, a strategy is in place to not bother buying a striker. Aside from the fact that AVB didn’t say anything of the sort, what kind of ‘strategy’ is that? Are AVB and Levy secretly getting off on the risky business of possibly seeing our season splurged against the wall as one or both of our two misfiring misfits get crocked and we end up with noone at all up top? As I say, you’d have to be a complete fool to buy into any of this bullshine!

        • Astro Spur January 22, 2013 at 1:11 pm

Call me old school, but personally I always wait till the last day of the transfer window to see what’s actually happening. The reality is that only the club really knows what’s going on, but it is fun sometimes to try to figure out what the hell Levy and co are working on, if anything.

I understand your gripe, but everyone has their own opinion and it’s up to everyone individually wether to believe them, or agree with them, or whatever.

          • LLL January 22, 2013 at 1:16 pm

It is putting (somewhat senseless) opinion across as hard fact which irks me, that’s all.

          • spudulike January 22, 2013 at 2:38 pm

            you’re old school Astrospur

          • spuds4me January 22, 2013 at 7:21 pm

not the last day – the last minute, don’t forget we have levy!

        • theboyhotspur January 22, 2013 at 1:40 pm

          Hello LLL, you minx.

First up here’s the URL on Damiao: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2259832/Leandro-Damiao-No-Tottenham-offer-says-agent.html from the Mail but the quotes were whored globally.

Here’s AVB’s presser after United: http://threeandin.com/2013/01/21/press-room-tottenham-were-the-best-team-says-villas-boas-video/ You’ll have to press play and listen, but I promise you the quote is in there.

On Sneijder I tell you hand on heart we did talk, but the conversation was brief and well after the initial announcement by that Italian hack. Wes wanted a champagne flute in his hand on a private jet, we don’t do them. My source was impeccable.

On Remy, you talk about facts. What facts? The ‘fact that the The Mirror and The Mail told you everyday we were close? The facts are he’s playing for QPR, who bought him off Willie Mackay. For legal reasons I cannot spell it out more for you.

Let me know how you get on.
And mind yourself. The pavements are treacherous.

          • LLL January 22, 2013 at 1:56 pm

            Tee hee!

One of your insider sources is a Daily Mail piece quoting a football agent!
Out-fecking-standing! What of this from AVB himself:

“Leandro is a player we’ve always appreciated, that this club appreciated before I arrived, but it’s extremely difficult that he’s going to join Tottenham.
“He’s a player that is highly rated in the market and it’s unlikely that he will play for Tottenham.”

Does this really suggest to you that no enquiry has ever been made? That Levy’s office is covered in posters of football players he admires, that he just stares longingly at them, but never makes enquiries?

Thanks for the AVB clip. Here’s another one:

            http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/premier-league/130120/andre-villas-boas-tottenham-need-another-striker-january-transfer-window-1897

Note in both interviews, AVB’s general caginess and hints to some kind of efforts to sign a striker in this window. Can you hear these?

Sneijder – your source is impeccable, eh? Given your admiration for the quotes of football agents in the Daily Mail, I’ll reserve judgement.

Remy – no, the fact that Redknapp said he had gone to see him play a couple of times, gone to meet him, and then recently how he went back to see him, meet him and signed him and said that he had tried to sign him when he was at Spurs. You may scoff and say that Redknapp is a bullshine man – which of course he is – but this doesn’t seem to be a story with much leverage in it for him. I would say that given the collective weight of newspaper action around the story, and Redknapp’s repeated assertions, that we were indeed interested in him in the past. I would hasten to add that I would imagine that that interest had since disappeared, possibly with the disappearance of Redknapp himself. This is all just kind of reading between the lines (and reading the lines themselves if I’m honest). But it seems to make more sense than your own bleating claims, no? And like I say, I haven’t actually tried to palm any of this radical thinking off as insider knowledge. Because it isn’t. Just common sense.

            • theboyhotspur January 22, 2013 at 4:12 pm

LLL you are a completely and utterly useless c*nt. An even vaguely more useful c*nt than you would have clicked on the URLs I gave you.

A vaguely more useful c*nt than you would have at least thought though a response based upon facts.

I can cope with c*nts like you disagreeing with me, but c*nts like you endlessly determined to get the wrong end of the stick?

              No.

  • Astro Spur January 22, 2013 at 12:18 pm

Knew they’d pull this shit once Dempsey scored that goal. Striker? We don’t need a striker, didn’t we finally score a goal after 25 attempts, now that’s champion quality right there. Tight fisted Levy, you have to laugh, ………..Then again we could be Arsenal, ha ha ha!

    • Cheeky Bill January 22, 2013 at 12:34 pm

:Who-s-the-man: Levy will always outspend Wenger!!

      • Astro Spur January 22, 2013 at 12:37 pm

Then again, that wouldn’t be hard. :Happy-Grin:

    • Watson January 22, 2013 at 12:42 pm

If most of our attempts are from outside the box, and they are, then a striker isn’t going to make any difference.

Our modus operandi is to play through the middle and create shooting chances 14 yards from goal.

      • Astro Spur January 22, 2013 at 12:56 pm

Have you seen the amount of goals we have missed, hit the post, or was hit point blank at the keeper this season, and you don’t think we need a better striker??? For instance, if only a third of our shots came from inside the box, a good striker, for instance Demba Ba, would have scored probably 6 or 7 or more goals this seson, that could be the difference between finishing 3rd, 4th or 5th!

        • spuds4me January 22, 2013 at 7:19 pm

have you seen how many times everton have hit the post/bar this season? believe me we’re not doing too badly overall, but I agree the trend is now dropping off to 0 or 1 goal per match – worrying.

      Hi Rico,

As formidable as both Willian and Llorente are, I don’t see them as being quite as polished as Moutinho and Damaio. It’s a moot point since none of them are coming anyway. But thank you for your comment.

      • Untidy January 22, 2013 at 2:01 pm

How polished is damaio as a youngster in brazil? How is damaio doing this season, heard he has been injured and come back out of form

good shout on moutinho but see H’s comments very unlikely unless that issue can be resolved

Got to go to work but I know there is a news story that will unfold today or it wont.

Such is a life of a Tottenham supporter.I guess we would really get bored if we supported the Chavs with all their 38 million pound buys “Oh no not another” never mind the bench, there is not enough room in the stadium we have to stick him in a croissant joint on the Kings Road

  • ronwol196061 January 22, 2013 at 12:00 pm

News Now Tottenham has just been relegated to the second division.

  • Cheeky Bill January 22, 2013 at 11:59 am

I am largely satisfied with what we have at the moment – but I am concerned that we are two injuries away from real problems. I never thought that we would be in for Sneider, we are looking for players who want to play for the team and not for themselves. Remy, has bags of potential and may be the right player in a couple of seasons but in terms of pedigree, right now he is way behind Dempsey and Defoe. So why buy a player who may not even get into the team?

We have no urgent need to fill any one particular position – but we are just looking a little thin. Of all of the players mentioned this window only Mountinho and Damaio could have walked straight into the starting line up. That’s why I got excited. But I would rather not see any signings than have more untested squad players clogging up the books. This lot might be some way off being able to mount a title challenge but they are good enough for the task at hand.

There must be a lot of Tottenham ITK’s looking for jobs these days but not just them. I wonder how many Tottenham scouts are down the labour exchange too looking for something to keep them busy. Its fine watching all this talent but what can it be like to watch all the talent you’ve watched stay on the train to all stations except White Hart Lane.
We must have watched Remy about a thousand times.Harry had the dossier.Did he have to send anyone to watch him play? E was in for ‘im from the off.
When our scouts and Itk’s went to stadiums afar the local townspeople would talk about ‘those schmucks’ that never buy anyone except its a minute till the end of the window and we buy anyone on sale without even watching them (but what a deal!)
The formula is good but we have no need the ITK’s and Scouts but dont worry Hotspur fans there wont be any shortage of news because they are all perfectly suited for fleet street

  • Scott January 22, 2013 at 11:35 am

    Great article Harry,

agree with all but the we will be ok part, we have form in capitulation, and I dont think that its bottle, probably more fatigue and squad depth.

I just cant see past Levys business plan of new stadium and out.

The team looks great right now, Sandro injury aside, however, just look at the statistics week in week out, 18 attempts V utd, 1 Goal, its been similar all season, I regularly see us create twice as many attempts on goal but come away with point, or win by the odd goal,

Agreed that the performance so far has been good, great in fact, depending on how ambitious you actually are.

I just think we accept 4th as fantastic and with that attitude, we will always be also rans.

I dont subscribe to January move bollocks either,

Sturridge 3 goals in 3 games, similar story for Ba, Remy turns up and bags less than a quarter of an hour into his prem debut.

if you have a team which is able to create the chances we can, then any striker worth his salt would bag.

I dont put Adebayor or Defoe in that bracket incidently, as good as Defoe can be, I dont class him as top top drawer, he cannot compete with Ba.

I cannot see past more stars leaving, and being replaced by cheaper ones who we are able to develop,

Carrick, Berbatov, Modric, Bale is the next favorite out of the door.

replaced with some goods uns, for sure,

but thats not what I want from the club!

I want world domination! or a few trophies at least, to be able to compete seriously with Arse, Chelsea, have a go at Utd, not just be perennial good tryers but there for the taking.

We have the top class manager, its time to back him.

Jozy Altidore the AZ striker, 23 yrs, has scored 14 goals in 9 games so far this season,he will be the US replacement for Dempsey in the future, 6ft 1in, is very good in the Air, cue set pieces and positional awareness is very good, does not get caught offside as easily as Defoe. Scored a hat trick at the w/e, 2 headed and a lovely attacking run where he kept onside to collect and score. Defensive mistakes by the opposition helped but you’ve got to be there. Not the finished article but potentially an out and out striker for the right money, an investment for CL football next season, a Levy type buy. Spent a season 09-10 on loan at Hull playing a limited role.

    • spudulike January 22, 2013 at 11:34 am

      AZ?

      • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 12:03 pm

AZ Alkmaar, Edervise, most on here know their European Football Leagues.

        • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 12:21 pm

Tottenham scouts have watched him twice so far this season, Klinnsman rates him for the US, he has impressive international form, CONCAF. When with Hull in the Premier League he was sub 14 times and started 2 matches during the loan spell 09-10. Expected Transfer value £5m-£6.5m just perfect for Levy’s price/age policy, with more PL games would easily double in Value if we got a WC striker in the summer.

        • spudulike January 22, 2013 at 12:56 pm

yeah alright alright Razspur egghead but that’s a pretty obscure club by my reckoning and I’m sure you don’t know them all. BTW Gary Hooper is the latest link to Spurs in the meeja…Scunthrope Ut>Celtic>WHL?

          • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 3:13 pm

Some of the best players in the history of the Premier League come from the Ederivise, You may only have heard of Ajax or PSV (that’s Eindhoven) but AZ regularly qualify for Europe.
Hooper is scoring goals in Scotland in a one Club League and you reckon that’s more credible ?
Why have both Chelsea and Spurs scouts watched this guy, never mind Rubin and Anzi, if we don’t snap him up someone will get a bargain.

    • Subbed after 70 January 22, 2013 at 12:54 pm

He was at Hull and was shit

      • Razspur January 22, 2013 at 1:16 pm

If you read my previous, he started 2 games and was sub 14 times as a 20 year old. I suppose you know better than Klinnsman.

  • VincentianMagic January 22, 2013 at 11:16 am

It’s a tricky one – on the one hand we have played pretty well and have a settled squad in which most players have been utilised (Arry take note!). On the other, we know from experience that previous seasons have looked rosy at the mid-way point only to fall a little flat as injuries and loss of form take hold.

IMO we should only look at buying players that can compete for a starting spot and therefore take us up a level. Unfortunately as we have improved, these players are harder to come by and harder to convince due to a combination of wages, CL experience, etc.

That said, there must be a player or two that would ‘make a difference’ and let us maintain the top four challenge through to the end of the season. I would be looking at our scouts to make a difference in this respect.

If we can bring in Holtby now then he may provide an additional spark of creativity for little outlay. I think the focus should be on a CF who can take the chances we create. The best teams always have players that strike fear into defences and can make the difference in a tight game. You look at RVP and can see that he has probably gained several points for Utd all on his own.

If we could convince someone like Llorente or Damaio to join us then I really think that they would make the difference.

The rest of the team looks pretty good – so it’s a case of fine-tuning.

  • PJ January 22, 2013 at 11:13 am

Off subject but is Pritchard signed and sealed? I read somewhere that he was out of contract in the summer!
You can bet your bottom dollar that the scousespurs will be after him, along with a certain rednose after a bit of payback for what Levy done to The Mancs.

    • Me Again January 22, 2013 at 12:02 pm

ITK (I know, I know) suggests Pritchard ‘aint that happy’ but will stick around for 1 more year….

Anyway, expect that £5m bid for Penguin Jones to go in at any moment!

  • Aidy-J January 22, 2013 at 11:13 am

Ah ITK, a veritable feast of shite from over the web, like when a dog does a poo in the snow and the owner doesn’t pick it up, another layer of snow falls, another poo is laid and the process is repeated until what is created is some form of terrifying dog poo lasagna waiting to be trod in, my favourite last week was that Kenwyne Jones is a serious option or possibly Gary Hooper, this is going on the itk we won’t sign a striker for over 10 million, give me strength

    • hotspur January 22, 2013 at 3:54 pm

dog poo lasagne – genius! terrifying genius. Suddenly realised it’s dog poo trifle the papers keep feeding us. And what about newsnow, once a joy, now a minefield of doggy poo headlines!

  • onedavemackay January 22, 2013 at 11:05 am

I agree with most of that but I think once we got Holtby a Moutinho bid seemed unlikely and I think Daniel and Andre also think we need a striker but will not pay top dollar. So a bargain end of January punt is what they’re looking for.

Of course the other issue striker wise is that Ba Michu and Jelavic are all pretty decent strikers and were not top dollar so maybe we need spend our money signing up a top scout

  • AVB January 22, 2013 at 11:02 am

My love for this great club was built upon the foundations of false hope, and a blind obsession to ignore the facts has seen me through the darkest hours and days of our history. So, give me lies and rumors any day of the week – I can’t handle all this truth malarkey.

  • cookiebun January 22, 2013 at 11:01 am

We need a striker and we need Holtby in now. AVB didn’t say in plain language that not buying a striker was a strategy, a risk, they would take. He said that not buying a striker was a strategy, a risk, they may take but that the transfer window was still open, which leads one to believe he was saying there may be a striker being worked on. It’s all very well to look at graphs and make smart remarks about suicide watch, but this is a business and to take unnecessary risks, like Harry took last season (when he thought the Club could run itself for a few months) would be suicide. There’s plenty of strikers available and Damaio is not a no no for this window.

    • Watson January 22, 2013 at 12:36 pm

      Er, isn’t buying a risk?

    • LLL January 22, 2013 at 12:52 pm

You are right, AVB actually said:

“It is a difficult situation (only having one striker available), and at the minute we can’t do nothing yet in the market, but we are aware of it and the risk that it entails so we just have to be careful”

      He has also said:

“We are always looking for one more striker since it’s a position that we’re looking to strengthen. I think taking three strikers into a Premiership season is more than enough. Sometimes it’s not, but hopefully it is. We’re trying to bring somebody else in.”

So I don’t understand how someone of apparently average intelligence could deduce from these quotes that not buying a striker was actually a ‘strategy’ and a calculated risk the manager and chairman were willing to take. Seems that they are trying very hard on a different strategy altogether.

      • Jamie January 22, 2013 at 3:43 pm

What I think we need to do long term is radically re-build the structure of our forward line.

3 strikers is perfect if only 1 of which is a “no.9 only” and the rest offer something in other positions.

Take City with Dzeko or United with Hernandez, the rest can play wide or as no.10 – so you can have 2, 3, even 4 on the pitch when chasing a game.

It allows teams to get and keep better forwards (that and £s).

If we’re talking another ok “no.9 only” who will cost decent money and wages, personally I’d rather recall Kane.

We have Sigg as a natural no.10, and worst case if Ade and Defoe both got injured we could play him behind Demspey or even Kane in the event of some kind of injury Apocalypse.

    • spuds4me January 22, 2013 at 7:12 pm

Hooper at Celtic is the latest rumble in the jungle. Ex spud that slipped through the net. His goal scoring record in the spl is excellent, but of course its the spl not the epl. Having said that he’s looked sharp in CL group stages so could be worth an 8-9 mil punt if levy can find the key to his money box by 11.59pm on 31st.
At least having him would give the opposition some more homework other than “its Defoe up front – just lean on him”. Or with Ade “guide him away from the goal till he runs out of pitch and he’ll pass to us anyway”.

  • DAVID January 22, 2013 at 10:58 am

If we are not bringing in anyone, we need to work on a plan to get more out of our one truly World class player, Bale.

His contribution on Sunday of one cross and a few shots on goal was nowhere near good enough.

We should be looking to get the ball to him quickly and at every opportunity rather than slow delivery which means when he gets the ball, he has 4 players waiting to tackle him.

Not using him more often is criminal and there are some games where we only seem to be getting about 40% out of him.

    • Dimbo January 22, 2013 at 11:11 am

Bale is a world class player but any decent opposing team will try to double-mark world class players out of the game. This is why it’s so important we have an equally good threat on the other wing with Lennon, and it’s no coincidence he had an amazing game on Sunday… when a team goes all out to cut out the threat of Bale then it opens up more space for the other players especially on the other side of the pitch like Lennon. We can’t rely on one player in Bale and we need to have alternative stategies like going through Lennon if space gets too tight round Bale.

    • Alan January 22, 2013 at 11:13 am

Or maybe Bale could stay out left, occupying 3-4 defenders thus allowing the team to shine rather than the individual. Suspect he and his agent will not like that but his roaming in the first half was a disgrace to the term ‘winger’. Notice how Fergie was happy to usher him centrally? His van der Vaart without the talent impression has got to stop.

The worst things to happen to Gareth Bale were the Inter Milan games and Norwich away last year. The first one made him a target for opposition managers who doubled up on him on the left flank. The second one gave him the impression that he can regularly play through the middle. Since he started this experiment, he’s flattered to deceive more often than pundits care to accept.

      • Dimbo January 22, 2013 at 11:38 am

“Van der Vaart without the talent impression” are you serious? I agree there are times when he should be more available on the left wing, but his roaming when he’s being tightly marked creates space and channels for our other players to run. I would always rather he was roaming and pulling defenders out of position than having a formation that’s static.

Sure we don’t want the inter milan games to go to his head but I’m happy that any media hype might have made opposing teams focus on Bale and therefore allowing more space for the more underrated talents of Lennon, Dembele, Dempsey etc

      • Bobbles January 22, 2013 at 11:42 am

What a load of bollocks. He’s still our best player by a mile – he’s not Messi and I think he’s entitled to an off day every now and again.

    • spudulike January 22, 2013 at 11:31 am

…except as he was constantly marked by 2-3 manure players, it gave far more room to others, notably Lennon

    • Jamie January 22, 2013 at 11:35 am

Benny’s return will help this. United had 2 sometimes 3 players showing him inside. Teams won’t play that game when they have a good left footer to worry about, over lapping into that space.
That’s no slight on Naughton, just the limitations of a right footer at LB.
No co-incidence the Benny ended up in all that space to cross for the goal.

      • Jamie January 22, 2013 at 11:36 am

by “him” I mean Bale btw..

      • Catcher January 22, 2013 at 12:27 pm

What about the goal Bennie nearly gave away 5 mins before he crossed the ball for the goal.
Bennie’s defending still gives me the Heebies.

        • DAVID January 22, 2013 at 12:50 pm

I am not having a go at Bale, I am simply saying we need to make more of his talents, to find ways of bringing him into the action.

In our last 2 matches, the opposition came up with a plan which stopped him getting into the game.

I am sure every team who play against Messi and Ronaldo have special plans to stop them. I am not saying Bale is as good as them but if those 2 players can still determine the outcome of matches then we as a team should be able to find ways to use Bale to greater effect.

          • spuds4me January 22, 2013 at 7:08 pm

the way things are going on the striker front Bale could be playing up front soon – just one accident like Sandro and avb could be left scratching his head.

            • DAVID January 22, 2013 at 7:54 pm

Bale could probably play as a striker as well.

On the Sandro front, we should pay West Ham the alleged release clause figure of £3.5 million for Diame.

He is a natural replacement and although we have Parker, he will not be around for much longer.
