Rose Interview 2 Weeks Old, Levy Detached From Reality, Poch Worried

Rose Interview 2 Weeks Old, Levy Detached From Reality, Poch Worried

The Danny Rose interview in The Sun is a fortnight old and took place in the presence of his agent.

Despite suggestions to the contrary, neither Manchester City or Manchester United have even made enquiries for the player. This has in fact pushed Rose to make his willingness to be paid more public. After Bonzo got his ticket out of Spurs, he felt as if he was being looked over.

Tottenham acknowledge that relations with Chelsea are considerably improved from the low ebb they were once at. Danny Rose has burned his bridges at THFC and he will be sold.

Nobody at Spurs were aware of this dynamite interview and Gladys describes the atmosphere as post nuclear.

Levy’s manner has been described as detached. Perhaps he is all too well aware that when a player wants out there is nothing to be negotiated. Or perhaps he lacks the people skills to make a player feel genuinely valued.

Pochettino, the man who has unsurprisingly been reeling out this line about him being ‘calm’ – because it is the precise opposite of how he feels.

The departure of Walker had a damaging effect on him personally and the team. Danny Rose opening his heart to The Sun has caused a complete meltdown.

Again, the timing is appalling but Rose feels as if his hand has been forced.

Poch apparently referred him to Levy and Levy referred him to his contract and a scale model of the stadium.

A stadium that Walker, Rose and several others don’t actually give a damn about.

    Hijacking transfers…

I remember Rangers buying players in Scotland and putting them in their reserves so no other team could have them.

We bought Gough from Dundee Utd because they wouldn’t sell to Rangers.

We had him a season and sold him to Rangers.

Chelscum have players out on loan so no other team can have them and use them as bargaining chips.
They always seem to get our targets…

    Let’s get real.

    Sell them Rose.

    • Bruxie August 10, 2017 at 3:28 pm

      £70m

  • SeattleSpursGuy August 10, 2017 at 3:24 pm

    This sums it up:

“Their [Spurs] approach, as admirable and financially sustainable as it is, requires a leap of faith from the players. At 21, 22 and 23, leaps of faith are alluring and mysterious. At 26 and 27, money and trophies start to matter more.”

Fair enough. Ask for a transfer, if you don`t get it put in a written transfer request. Or don`t sign an improved contract 8 months ago, then come out saying how happy you are. Any player is entitled to make his own decisions about his career, that doesn`t extend to kicking your manager, your team mates and the fans in the gonads.

Fofty, this is modern football, leave your morals, ethics, good intentions at the door as you enter another world.

      • TopOfThePochs August 10, 2017 at 3:34 pm

Spot on! His actions are damaging to the clubs reputation. A player that the club have kept faith in and backed, when many would’ve sold him off to a much lower placed side, should show more respect.

If he wasn’t happy he shouldn’t have signed ANOTHER improved 5 YEAR contract.

Shows how out of touch these players are, how id love to be guaranteed to be earning £65K + a week for the next 5 years basic.

        • J August 10, 2017 at 5:18 pm

Actually we are constantly being told that the re-signing of players keeps their price high. I would imagine it’s something Levy was pushing him for (like the cheap git he is). It makes little or no difference to Rose. Besides, he’s totally within his rights to want to win something. It’s Levy that’s the problem. Should have picked early targets, paid a reasonable price (in an inflated market that might mean paying 35 mil for a 25 mil player) we have the money so.. Walker isn’t worth 50 mil so if you’re willing to charge that price you should willing to pay that price. Perhaps we’ll get some guys in, I do not hold out any hope and quel surprise, we get a couple of injuries and a couple of players leave and all of a sudden we look like relegation fodder (ok, I’m being melodramatic). The club’s reputation has been damaged by not trying to win anything… If we’d got a cup last year more players would come and other wouldn’t leave. What’s more we have t up our wage bill, why come to Spurs to do double training and not win anything when you could go anywhere else and live it up. Prediction: unless we sign quickly, all our stars gone at the end of a trying season. I hope I’m wrong. (Although, I’m already considering switching to my new local team AFC Wimbledon).

    • Lilywhite August 10, 2017 at 3:32 pm

Levy talks about unsustainability re the hyper-inflated market we’re in, which I don’t totally disagree w. But I’d respond to him w my own version of unsustainability – us being able to indefinitely purchase fantastic players at amazingly low prices and then hold onto those players when their wage and market values significantly out pace what we paid/pay. Currently, we can’t even replicate step 1, buying the great players at amazing value, before even reaching the next step of trying to keep them. Toby, Wanyama, Dier, Alli, Kane, last years full backs, to name a few, all great value. Where’s this year’s versions? We’ve been punching above our weight and overachieving. We need to gain weight to remain in our weight class.

  • Lilywhite August 10, 2017 at 3:12 pm

This is absurd. Increased revenues – from all over the place – would allow us to increase our wage structure, pay the players more and bring in quality reinforcements, allowing us to keep our best players, maintain moral, maintain our league position, and hopefully push on and try to improve to actually win something, Wembley notwithstanding. Instead, we sit idly by and let everything unravel. And for what? To save money, not paying very good players their market value in salary and not paying clubs for players’ market value in transfers? This is insane. Penny shy and pound foolish.

    • Freund or Foe August 10, 2017 at 3:14 pm

That would make sense. Rose mentioned about other players saying we don`t need new signings, that`s Verts and Moussa in the last few days. And the way the articles were written, especially the first one, suggest they were scrawled in a few minutes on the back of a fag packet.

Shaw is the only full back I’d be happy to swap rose with. If he can get fit and back to form he is triffic.

    • UnkleTaff August 10, 2017 at 3:01 pm

Under Pochettino Shaw was one of the most (if not *the* most) sought-after young players in the game. It comes as no surprise to me that his career has stalled under a coach who has no interest in developing young players.

I really hope there’s something in this report. It would certainly make Rose’s impending departure more palatable.

    • Harry Hotspur August 10, 2017 at 3:30 pm

  • Ed August 10, 2017 at 2:45 pm

In one week Danny Rose gets paid more than twice the annual wage earned by most people. And he wants more. Is that greed? Of course but he can’t be blamed because this game is in a crisis caused by neo-liberal greed. Look at transfer fees this year….Levy is right, this is unsustainable. The only people who can bring this to a halt are the fans but they are hooked on the soccer opiate. British soccer is becoming, has become an obscenity…Time to close it down? Yes…..and start a movement based on fan power and fan ownership. But can it happen?

  • Mariner August 10, 2017 at 2:31 pm

Swiss Ramble writes wonderfully about football finances and wrote in January of this year that we had a ‘wages to turnover ratio’ of 51%, with Manchester United 45% and Manchester City 50%. This means that the percentage of our turnover that goes toward wages is higher than that of the Manchester clubs; their huge turnovers make their higher wage bills possible/sustainable. For comparison, Arsenal’s ratio is 56%, Liverpool’s 56%, and Chelsea are an anomaly on 68%. When you see Premier League wages presented in this way it illustrates the market that we are working within.

If ‘market rate’ for Rose’s wages are £160k per week, reportedly around £95k per week more than what he earns currently, that would involve spending an additional £5m a year on him alone. Were we to make similar increases to all of our best players (which we would have to do were we to bump up his salary), we’d be looking at over £50m. We cannot afford this; not least because we have £750m worth of stadium to pay for.

    • Jim,Newry Spur. August 10, 2017 at 2:38 pm

      • Jim,Newry Spur. August 10, 2017 at 2:23 pm

Agree, hard to stop them though, no laws on agents really, the agent for Pogba supposedly snaffled half of the 80million deal.

        • Bruxie August 10, 2017 at 2:27 pm

It’s not hard to stop, though.

If Chairman didn’t deal with agents…who would the players turn to?

The Chairmen. Or not get a job.

we are so calm…..as the project is on fire

  • Caspurs♿️ August 10, 2017 at 2:07 pm

    Freund or Foe
I`d like trophies, but they are hard to come by without transfers and wages, that doesn`t seem to be disputed. If we build a new stadium, we stand more chance of offering competitive transfer fees and wages. Until then, we definitely can`t compete on wages. We probably have a decent enough transfer kitty, but can`t attract world class players because of the wages.
So I want them all, but I know that`s not possible all at once. What to do?

The stadium won’t alter the financial landscape to any great degree, as match day income only represents a small % of the clubs turnover these days. The issue is that commercial revenue is nowhere were that of the other top clubs. Liverpool have an annual turnover which is £140 greater than ours, allowing them to pay higher wages even though they haven’t been title contenders in many years.
The players now have reevaluated their worth and aspirations, after finishing in the top 4 in the last two seasons, whereas the clubs commercial income has only improved moderately.
It would appear we are in the old chicken and egg scenario, hope we win silverware on a budget, or over extend financially in order to improve our chances of silverware, and then hope the commercial revenue increases, allowing us to compete.
I don’t know the answer, but getting in some quality players would have definitely helped!

    • Freund or Foe August 10, 2017 at 2:27 pm

It will though Cas, It`ll double the matchday revenue, so an extra 50mil per year. That`s half our current wage bill.
You`re right about the chicken and egg though, and that`s not an exact science. Getting in quality players would obviously help, but no guarantee`s. Since the Manc`s last won the title, they`ve spend 420mil on players (370mil according to some websites), that`s before this summer`s spending, and all they have to show for it is 1 league cup. They will never recoup that money, but that doesn`t matter to them, unfortunately it does for us. So as much as anyone on here, including me, thinks that we are a few world class players away from being PL champs, thinking it doesn`t make it happen.

If anyone had said we’d get 100m+ for walker and rose we’d most have said sell. Because they are not irreplaceable. Kane and Toby, we’d not say it. Alli and Ericsson no way you’d take it. Verts and Wanyama, never. What Levy now needs to do is stop pissing around and get decent speedy replacements to augment and challenge Tripps and Davies.

    • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? August 10, 2017 at 2:06 pm

  • Cptcaveman August 10, 2017 at 1:58 pm

Whatever is written, we will be severely weakened without Rose. I’ve seen these silly ‘We won without him’ statements but in no walk of life is Davis a world beater, I was gutted when Rose got injured as I believe we would have won a cup with him in the team last season. Anyway, now he’s on his way out. Thinking about it and having time to calm down, Levy needs to put up now. I would seriously think about benching Rose with the reserves or on Gardening Leave for the upcoming season and NOT SELL… lets send out a message, we will not stand for this. Rose will also miss out on his beloved world cup and that will give Us, Levy & Tottenham the last Fuck you very much!

  • Matt August 10, 2017 at 1:57 pm

Rose didn’t play in our beat run in recent history. Of our starting 11 he is probably 11th best. Who would you rather lose instead of him? Kane? Erisccon? Toby? Wanyama..? No, exactly. He’s mostly injured and if we can get 60m for him take it and Davies can continue to look more solid, albeit slower. We won’t concede one extra goal for the loss of Rose.

    • Cptcaveman August 10, 2017 at 2:00 pm

  • Chris Cyprus Yid August 10, 2017 at 1:21 pm

All the top teams in Europe are always challenging and winning trophies because they spend mega money, it’s how it is and how it will always be, we can’t compete with the likes of Chavs, Arse, Manure or City because lets face it won’t pay the wonga. Rose can go, good luck to him, but I think it’s only a matter of time before we are going to see other players doing the same thing. You pay you play in this game Mr Levy. New stadiums don’t guarantee trophies, throw some of the money at proper players that will boost everyone in the team. Levy go straight in for BALE, show some bollocks.

    • Jim,Newry Spur. August 10, 2017 at 1:29 pm

        • Bruxie August 10, 2017 at 1:32 pm

HK is a Spurs man. I’d be devastated if he were to act in this fashion.

Dele is a transfer in and a probable world class player who now needs a salary commensurate with his standing.
Levy needs to realise what he is fostering in the squad by not signing anyone of worth…or paying decent wages…or we pay the penalty.

          Transfers. Wages. Trophies. New Stadium.

Place them in the order you would like next.

          • Bruxie August 10, 2017 at 1:34 pm

    • Chris Cyprus Yid August 10, 2017 at 1:24 pm

He recently signed a new contract and was happy with the terms, obviously had his head turned, so it’s goodbye from him. I don’t want anyone playing for us who doesn’t want to be there.. Simples.

    • JuandeInternational August 10, 2017 at 1:26 pm

Fair dos. Don’t have an issue with him going if he wants out. The issue as has been the case in recent times is what we are going to do with the money generated. If players are being sold at top dollar to start paying off chunks of the stadium building costs, then we are in for some very lean times.

      • Jim,Newry Spur. August 10, 2017 at 1:32 pm

Juan, Levy is on record as saying team finance and stadium finance are separate issues.

        • Harry Hotspur August 10, 2017 at 1:47 pm

He thinks ambition is dangerous. Ambition rocks the boat. Ambition means being asked for money.

    • Jim,Newry Spur. August 10, 2017 at 1:19 pm

Don`t want to lose him, but no problem with him personally if he did that.
If he does it directly through the press, slagging off the club and the opinions of his manager and team mates, then I`ll lose my shit. Again.

  • WitTank August 10, 2017 at 1:14 pm

Everyone is spinning this in a different way but Im not convinced he wants to leave. He’s doing a Campbell and demanding action from the owner and its a pretty blunt warning.

The reason I say this is because recovering from a serious knee injury basically makes him unbuyable until January so until then He has to face the other players. Maybe He is only saying what others are thinking!

    • Jim,Newry Spur. August 10, 2017 at 1:17 pm

Can’t see the players turning on him, not in private, maybe in front of he who must be obeyed, players will be secretly delighted I would think.

      • Matt August 10, 2017 at 1:19 pm

Agreed. Who wants to play for a team that is ‘well run.’ Winning is important for top players and a good XI isn’t what the modern game is all about. Need a quality squad that looks to keep improving every year.

  • Ronan August 10, 2017 at 1:04 pm

How to get out off Spurs? Simple, just suggest that you might want to leave.

How to stop players wanting to leave? Maybe by heeding what Rose himself said back in May. Alternatively, you could sell the country’s highest-rated rghtback to the title favourites and see how the players react to that.

  • ronwol196061 August 10, 2017 at 1:02 pm

Im off the supply and demand school. Rose is not neccessarily wrong in wanting more money and pushing it but Levy is ain full right to defend the contract.
The bigger issue is Kane and Poch.
So I would stop this right here.Up the wage structure more realistically now and tell Chelsea to go fuck themselves.

    • Jim,Newry Spur. August 10, 2017 at 1:06 pm

Agree, Rose might have done us all a favour, the first player to break the maximum wage was vilified now he’s looked on as a pioneer of player rights.

    • JuandeInternational August 10, 2017 at 1:12 pm

Isn’t going to happen though is it. The wage structure is going to remain and the squad will slowly be gutted same as happened with that lot down the road in the immediate years after they built their new ground.

    • MysteriousStranger August 10, 2017 at 1:02 pm

Levy does enough damage himself. I’m still looking closer to home as to why we’re in this mess. Not signing anyone perhaps?

      • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? August 10, 2017 at 1:54 pm

Like with any catastrophe its a culmination of things. Levy was never leading us to a grand glorious future. That was just to hypnotise us enough to knock our home down.

    • JuandeInternational August 10, 2017 at 1:02 pm

Why wouldn’t they. This close to the start of the season, creating a bit of strife and drama in a club gets their story maximum attention and more page views.

    • Harry Hotspur August 10, 2017 at 1:10 pm

If you were going to cause damage, would you want to

      a] cause not much damage
      b] cause some damage
      c] cause maximum damage

I’m struggling to see how this was ever going to be released as a run of the mill interview…

    • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? August 10, 2017 at 1:50 pm

      That’s not a conspiracy. That’s just a fact.

  • caveman August 10, 2017 at 12:59 pm

Again, the timing is appalling but Rose feels as if his hand has been forced.
Rose has been an outspoken twat all his Spurs career. He’s said he wasn’t a Spurs fan in the past. He reminds me of BAE. There’s no excuses for what he did with this outburst, he has to go. I never want to see the little greedy bastard traitor in a Spurs shirt again. He’s another Sol Campbell to me.

    • MysteriousStranger August 10, 2017 at 1:03 pm

      Jesus. Not an overreaction…

  • StuSpur August 10, 2017 at 12:58 pm

Rose signed his deal not long ago, interested to understand why he suddenly feels he deserves more after being out for 6 months. I really believe it’s more to do with the lack of quality signings.
If our summer begun with us splashing out on a couple of mint players there would be a buzz about the place, at the club and in the media.
He could be looking at the situation and realising no signings means no progress meaning no medals equaling no bumper pay rise

  • TopOfThePochs August 10, 2017 at 12:56 pm

Not surprised it was a couple of weeks old, while the squad was parading to the fan fair in the States would be the perfect opportunity for him to sneak off and give his poisonous invterview.
If they bend to his will on his terms then there will be another nuclear incoming from both the fans and other members of the squad who have a crack at the easy buck.

    • Matt August 10, 2017 at 1:09 pm

Wanting to win things doesn’t make him a c***. Levy out.

      • Jim,Newry Spur. August 10, 2017 at 1:13 pm

        Agree.

      • Freund or Foe August 10, 2017 at 1:18 pm

Of course it doesn`t. Blabbing his opinions to the Sun, going against his manager and team mates, and the timing of it all, that`s what makes him a cunt.

        • TopOfThePochs August 10, 2017 at 2:03 pm

Absolutely correct. Designed to make the most damage.

      • TopOfThePochs August 10, 2017 at 2:02 pm

Didn’t call him a c***? And didn’t slight him for wanting to win things.

The way he has run to aThe Sun of all people & given a carefully crafted interview which is very damaging to the club & the transfer business we are currently trying to do is a total disgrace.

  • is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? August 10, 2017 at 12:55 pm

Levy is detached cos he’s not bothered. Its beyond the pitch for him. Interesting they waited until the time it could do maximum damage to release the article. They sat on it and waited for that. The elite have decided spurs and their flirtation with the top2 needs to end. We are getting in the way of the sky 4 utopia. Footballers are dumb and maluble. Rose has played right into their hands. The twit.

  • Bruxie August 10, 2017 at 12:55 pm

    Highest bidder.

    Now.

Can you imagine him playing with a full Spurs crowd?

If he thought we were cruel to him in the past…

    Get fucking rid.

    • Freund or Foe August 10, 2017 at 12:59 pm

As soon as possible, for as much as possible.

      • Bruxie August 10, 2017 at 1:00 pm

        “But it Now” button….

        £70m or fuck off.

    • 89Spurs 👁 August 10, 2017 at 2:12 pm

Your right there, he got enough stick against Stoke a while ago, when he was taken off, before he got red carded and sent off.

  • mattspurs August 10, 2017 at 12:54 pm

So the interview happened 2 weeks ago, Chelsea put a bid in knowing that it was going to break? Now we sit tight and wait for offers from the 2 Manchester clubs?

  • Matt August 10, 2017 at 12:54 pm

I think Rose is right. He wants to win something and Levy doesn’t care about that. Our ‘business guru’ is being exposed for the toolbox he really is.

    • Bruxie August 10, 2017 at 12:59 pm

      He’s wrong…

He’s put his pocket above all else.

Levy is an arse…we already knew that.

But this is a new situation that leaves the whole club in turmoil.

      Poch will need some help.

Captain Lloris will have to own the dressing room.

      As Captains should.

      • Panama Paul August 10, 2017 at 1:02 pm

Hugo’s probably brushing up on his French. Just in case.

        • Bruxie August 10, 2017 at 1:04 pm

          Brushing up on his French?

          He IS French.

          Doh.

          • Panama Paul August 10, 2017 at 1:05 pm

            Exactement.

      • MysteriousStranger August 10, 2017 at 1:04 pm

Wouldn’t be quite so much “turmoil” if we’d signed a couple of players.

        • Bruxie August 10, 2017 at 1:08 pm

          Agreed.

He’s left it late…like Levy …to drop this on us.

He’ll never wear the shirt again.

Even signings wouldn’t have tempered Rose’s greed and tactic to get out.

          • Harry Hotspur August 10, 2017 at 1:16 pm

Had we reinforced, the mood in the camp would be buoyant.

Instead, they asked the team if it was okay to save money and not buy anyone and the players are looking to get jobs with a real club, opposed to a fucking property developers.

I loathe Levy with a passion, but I’m actually staggered by the scale of this fuck job.

            A masterclass.

    • MysteriousStranger August 10, 2017 at 1:00 pm

      About the size of it.

  • Panama Paul August 10, 2017 at 12:51 pm

I’ve just gotten off the phone with Antonio Conte. I explained to him that I was a disillusioned Spurs fan who has supported them for over 33 years. That I’d finally gotten to the point where I could no longer resist the urge of instant gratification and a longing for the tangible things, such as trophies, titles and winners medals that true supporters yearn for.

I wanted to taste some glory within the next 35 years so that I will not pass away wishing “If only” I had supported a club with real ambition, a winning mentality and a lack of restraint in the transfer market. He seemed to appreciate my honesty.

I said I would happily support Chelsea if he was prepared to triple my current salary. He asked me what it would take, so I told him 150K. He replied ”a 150K per week, yes, not a problem.” “Oh no, I said, 150K a year, I’m not greedy.” Antonio said ”You’re not Danny’s agent?” and before I could reply he hung up.

    Bugger, I shoulda been greedy!!

    • Ronwol1960-61 August 10, 2017 at 12:55 pm

But do you really want to go to Chelsea? Now we have a chance to pick what other club we want to support.

      Taff picks West Brom

      • Panama Paul August 10, 2017 at 12:57 pm

Elvis Costello didn’t want to go to Chelsea either 🙂

        • Jim,Newry Spur. August 10, 2017 at 12:58 pm

          Boom, Boom.

      • UnkleTaff August 10, 2017 at 1:02 pm

I’m conflicted for Saturday. The Toon are my ancestral team 🙁

  • Karnage August 10, 2017 at 12:47 pm

    Anyone fancy going to Guam?

    • ronwol196061 August 10, 2017 at 12:49 pm

We should sell Rose to Guam

      • Harry Hotspur August 10, 2017 at 12:55 pm

        Danny Rose, Mayor of Guam

        • Panama Paul August 10, 2017 at 12:58 pm
