Mauricio Pochettino insists he has no issue with Danny Rose despite him leaving the defender out of Tottenham’s squad for the north London derby.

Rose was not even named on the bench for the 2-0 defeat on Saturday, with boss Pochettino explaining the full-back still needs to regain fitness after nine months out through injury.

But, since making his comeback off the bench against Real Madrid last month, Rose had been in the squad for all five of Tottenham’s previous matches, twice starting and three as a substitute.

He also then started for England against Germany over the international break before coming on late against Brazil.

Rose has said all is forgotten following his comments in August suggesting he could leave Spurs and Pochettino was adamant this latest absence was for fitness reasons only.

“I think you are trying to find some issue that is not an issue,” Pochettino said.

“We analysed the player and we said to the player that we believed it was better to play another player, and [Rose] needs to wait. Like different players that are out, like (Georges-Kevin) NKoudou who was out of the squad today.

“It’s not the same if you are training and trying to get fit. One thing is you can play and another thing is to be fully fit to play and to cope with 90 minutes.

“For us, rather than being on the bench today, it was the decision to make him train at the training ground, like (Erik) Lamela was playing with the under-23s, to try to get fit.

“It’s not another reason. It’s only that he needs to build, and then wait for his opportunity. We believe that he can play.”

COMMENT:

Poch needs to spare the fans the baloney and start going ‘no comment’ if he can’t think of anything plausible to say.

Rose not only played for England – so there’s nothing wrong with him – he could not have conceivably been any less fit than the sorry articles that played in his stead.

Rose didn’t even attend the game.

Why Erik Lamela’s name is even mentioned is also beyond me. From reviews of his U23 game, I’M closer to making a first team appearance than he is.

But hey, who cares?! They got the colour of seats right…

Davies gave the ball away so many times in the first twenty minutes.
He needs competition to get him going.

    Rose is off.

    Shaw?

    I’d prefer £50m.

Some Fenerbahce striker by the name of Soldado scored a hat trick on the weekend. We should look into him.

      As did Adebayor.

West Brom need to avoid relegation. Which manager is capable of the defensive displays necessary to stay up?
They should go for Tony Pulis. Oh shit.

  • Yiddo November 20, 2017 at 10:59 am

Harold, if Rose starts tomorrow, and I suspect he will, does your stance on Poch’s stance change?
I’m no fan of Rose the person but it does sound plausible that a player who has just returned from a massive injury followed by a weekend with the national physio team would be left off the bench.
Also, by his own admission he’s not right in the head. I’d understand if Poch told him to foxtrot oscar until he can recover mentally.
“I think you are trying to find some issue that is not an issue.”

    • Harry Hotspur November 20, 2017 at 11:26 am

I think Rose was gagging to play in NLD and Poch decided to remind the lad who the gaffer was. That backfired as did many other aspects of Poch’s managerial wisdom.

This isn’t the first time Poch has dropped a bollock.

      • McG ⚽⚽ November 20, 2017 at 12:00 pm

        No, it’s certainly not!

      • Frontwheel 2 November 20, 2017 at 12:13 pm

So you think Rose should have played ?

        • 89Spurs👁 November 20, 2017 at 1:03 pm

Davis played as good a game as Rose would have done, as least he was trying, more so than some of the super stars. That lacked heart for the fight.

      • East Stand November 20, 2017 at 1:29 pm

What was the other option, give into Rose’s bullshit? What message does that send to the other players. As painful as it might be, Poch is in the right for me…

        • Harry Hotspur November 20, 2017 at 1:31 pm

The other option was to gag Rose and make it known he’s finished at Spurs. That’s what I’d do, anyway…

Is wanyama our most important player ? I mean now mousse is officially only ever 50% fit, dier being dier, sissoko using match days as auditions for let’s dance . Wanyama is the only enforcer and beast we gave in the midfield . When Toby comes back I’d even think about playing Sanchez as DM as the kid is so good .

    • AccringtonSpurs November 20, 2017 at 11:02 am

Wanyama has been so good he even had Kante in his pocket when we play Chelsea.

Dembele not fit which is a shame as he had surgery in the summer to correct a problem in his ankle and was feeling great at the start of the season.

      We’re like an off-roader with a malfunctioning 4-wheel drive.

Compare Ozil with Eriksen on Saturday, chalk and cheese.

    • East Stand November 20, 2017 at 10:44 am

Oil is no example of player being consistently good at all.

He’s worse than Eriksen for going missing in games. This was game where one turned up and the other didn’t, Ozil is an inconsistent lazy wanker. Ask a Gooner if you don’t believe me…

      • McG ⚽⚽ November 20, 2017 at 10:48 am

        Yep, this is very true.

      • caveman November 20, 2017 at 10:48 am

Wasn’t my point Easty. Oil won the game for Arsenal on Saturday, whereas Eriksen was just in the way and should have been taken out the back after the game and given a good fucking hiding.

        • East Stand November 20, 2017 at 10:51 am

Eriksen goes missing too often, now Alli is at it too. You can’t afford to have that in a team if you want to go places. Eriksen has been saying that Poch trusts him completely, on Saturday’s evidence that blind faith seems a little misplaced…

        • Kev November 20, 2017 at 10:56 am

Think Sanchez, Lacazette, Bellerin, Koscielny and Mustafi had more to do with winning them the game than Ozil.

          • AccringtonSpurs November 20, 2017 at 10:57 am

They were all good. Their fans were giving every player 10 out of 10.

        Off to Leyton Orient!

  • VincentianMagic November 20, 2017 at 10:33 am

Did seem an odd decision given that he has made previous squads/benches and we named Walker-Peters instead.

IMO, like you Harry, he’s probably toast if a decent offer comes our way. It’s a shame, but I’d take £50M for him no worries; then again I’d take the silly money being proposed for Alli.

If we could obtain the best part of £200M for those two, N’Koundo and Llorente, I’d take it.

As for the game on Saturday; I can take a bad performance if I feel that 100% commitment is given and the other team were just better. Arse played very well but we made it easy for them by never getting out of third gear. Sanchez aside, no-one covered themselves in glory. Kane was patently unfit so I won’t be too harsh on him.

Alli was useless however and just looked like he was drifting through the game. He is young, and he has a very good goals/assist ratio – however if Real Madrid came knocking I’d be tempted buy a wad of cash (say £80M+ and Isco). I’d invest the remains in a quality forward to compete with Kane, not just be happy with 5 mins off the bench as that does us no favours.

And if we sell Rose and a couple of others mentioned above, I’d go straight for Van Djik as Alderwereild hasn’t yet signed a new contract. If he costs £50M+ it will still be worth it.

A quality CF, someone like Isco in CM and Van Djik at the back and we will be very strong. Add Barkley on a free at the end of the season too!

    I’ve digressed again I know.

    • VincentianMagic November 20, 2017 at 10:36 am

*Just to clarify: you’re not toast Harry – I’m agreeing with you that Rose is toast* if you catch my drift 😉

Nobody will pay 50M for Danny Rose…

      • VincentianMagic November 20, 2017 at 10:52 am

I think Man Utd might as they pay over the top for most players.

        • East Stand November 20, 2017 at 10:55 am

35m, at a push. Besides, I’m not sure Maureen likes small attacking fullbacks anyway…

          • VincentianMagic November 20, 2017 at 10:57 am

Maybe, but I can’t see Levy letting him go for that. Time will tell I guess.

            • East Stand November 20, 2017 at 10:59 am

He might have to, as you say time will tell.

  • East Stand November 20, 2017 at 10:21 am

To me it sounds like Poch isn’t happy with his effort in training.

He’s stickler for players giving 100% in training and given that Rose suddenly thinks he’s the new Roberto Carlos he probably isn’t. He’s trying to force a move but Poch wants 100% from the irritating prick until we aren’t paying him anymore, which in principle is spot on.

Of course Rose is fit enough to be in the squad but Poch is using fitness as the excuse because it’s linked to training and effort.

Good luck to Poch, Levy may want him starting probably to keep his price high but Poch doesn’t tolerate shirkers, this is classic Poch. Rose can go fuck himself…

    • David Dillenberg November 20, 2017 at 10:29 am

Surely we know it’s coming exchanging Rose for Shaw or selling Rose for £40m so lets be done with it and move on. Next?

      • East Stand November 20, 2017 at 10:38 am

We know Rose is leaving, we’ll see about Shaw. Is a player not good enough for Utd good enough for Spurs these days? I don’t think so.

        • AccringtonSpurs November 20, 2017 at 10:43 am

yes I’m not convinced we should be picking up other teams’ rejects. Same with Andre Gomes at Barca and our interest on deadline day. Unfortunately it’s how we roll.

Poochs post match comments have been bizarre and disrespectful to the supporters. He had a massive bragging rights game for his managerial CV against Real Madrid and got the team up for that game. He fails however to repeat that in most derby matches and matches with the top six as evidenced by his track record against them especially away from home. He has stated that we gave a fantastic performance and were robbed by the referee and that we were better for large parts of the match than Arsenal. Those comments would lead to a section order in most circumstances outside of football.Their was an espirit de corps a couple of seasons ago evidenced by the collective goal celebrations. That has gone now and goal celebrations are muted. Look at Man City and how fired up their players are. They are all big ego players paid a fortune but they are playing with a passion alongside their ability. Our squad is playing like a bunch of accountants operating a spread sheet. It is all about the Pooch plan and process but no fire in the belly. Pooch is the equivalent of Levy in that regard. He is a great defensive coach but a poor attacking one. He cannot adapt his tactics on the hoof mid game and his substitutions generally are to late in the game and add little to change a games ourcome. He is restricted by our total dependency on Kane to score and remain fit. That however is his fault and Levy’s for failing yet again to address the attacking deficiencies in the squad. That was a massive statement game against on Saturday and the only statement it made is that we are still a long way off being anywhere near a winning team and that we have
a squad that have lost the collective energy we showed over the last couple of seasons.

Pulls is available now. Would he want players with no heart for the fight. I don’t think so.

        • VincentianMagic November 20, 2017 at 10:39 am

Poch is too rigid with his tactics and subs; it’s as if he has decided before the match who will come on at what stage irrespective of the score.

I’d have chucked on Son and Llorente at half-time as Kane was struggling and Alli was sh*t.

For me, his lack of confidence in our bench highlights our lack of strength in the squad.

We won’t need to as he will walk when he feels the time is right or a bigger offer is laid in the table. In that regard I sense he is no different to the players. Unless Levy changes his approach to player wages and transfer activities when the new stadium opens it is sadly inevitable.

        • East Stand November 20, 2017 at 10:47 am

So all our problems are down to both Poch and Levy or just one of them? I’m not sure I understand…
