Pochettino will at least have the attacking threat of Dele Alli to call upon, with the 21-year-old available after missing Tottenham’s first three Champions League ties through suspension.

Alli travelled with the squad to Madrid last month, a move aimed at making the youngster feel included.

“When a player is not involved, you feel a little bit down. Sometimes he had to stay at the training ground alone. It was not easy for anyone. Maybe he was affected a little bit by that.”

“Now we’re so happy with what he’s doing. His internal motivation is higher now, to try to compete at his best level. We’re very happy with his performances, he’s increasing his level. I’m not worried about him. It’s true, he’s disappointed too that he’s not at his best. But it’s coming.”

Am overly cosseted approach or good management?

This match  ban business with Dele has been entirely self inflicted and we saw in the Manchester United game that he still hasn’t managed to locate the brains that god allegedly gave him when it comes to staying out of trouble.

Tonight is a great opportunity for the 21 year old to repay the endless faith that’s been showering his precious little self of late.

We’ve coped pretty well without him so far in the CL this season. I would be inclined to leave him on the bench. For me he’s not shown enough recently to justify a starting spot. He also compromises the team by slowing the play down every time he’s on the ball.

Cenk Tosun equalises for Besiktas (54 mins), he is now Besiktas all time record scorer in the Champions League, might be worth a punt for Spurs !
    Not a bad game this.
