Poch Meanders Past Leicester City [video]

By The Boy -

This was another peculiar game, truth be told.

Resting both Kane and Eriksen was emasculating to put it mildly and one would have thought Leicester might have ‘rejigged’ themselves more aggressively to take advantage.

The old ‘you can only play what’s in front of you’ line has barely had a moment to itself this season, and what we’re undoubtedly witnessing is not to be confused with a vintage Premier League season – for about 90% of sides.

This was a game where Spurs edged the possession and yet again didn’t do a whole lot with it.

The post match stat that bellows above all others is the Tottenham xG.

.76 of a goal in a game you win 0-2 identifies a serious  imbalance between what your doing ands what you actually achieve.

I’m not suggesting Pochettino was aware of this in-play, however he would have been aware that we should have been able to turn up the heat more than we did.

Hence the otherwise strange introduction of two players that were supposed to being rested.

I could trawl for negatives from that performance, but ultimately I’m pleased we won. No matter how poor we have been these last few months, there’s no escaping the fact that, points-wise, it’s the best start we’ve had in years and, on paper at least, we’re still competing in the two cup competitions we entered at the start of the season. If, miracles of miracles, we somehow manage to win our next three matches, I think we should be very optimistic heading into 2019…
