The Premier League debut of Paul Gazzaniga wasn’t perfect but it was extremely welcome as Spurs came down to earth with a decided bump after the magnificent dismantling of Real Madrid.

Poch gushed after the game:

“Paulo played fantastically well. He’s an unbelievable option to have. We had possession, we dominated, but we conceded a lot of chances.”

Gazzaniga turned behind a skiddy effort from Sir Blastalot, did enough to shut down Wilfried Zaha after an Aurier blunder and parried away an awkward effort from Milivojevic.

The incident with Sakho didn’t overshadow the good he did, however it gave us an insight into how deep Poch was forced to dig into the Tottenham squad.

It could have easily been a penalty on any other day – but it wasn’t. When you’re playing your 3rd choice Charlie stuff like this is going to happen.

We were a bit dishevelled to say the least but we came through due to our quality defence.
In these games there are players we expect to do well but often they dont come through. I have no problem with Sissoko. He sometimes does a nice flick on,or a tough tackle and he certainly works his arse off pressing and coming back but seems to lack confidence a lot of the time. His shooting and longer passing is terrible. But he does work hard and in our system thats important. Then you get Eriksen who is renowned and heralded all over and yet when you really need him he goes AWOL. He is talented but really with a semi fit Kane and a missing Dele where is the fuck???????
I like Winks,I just think he needs to be a little bit less conservative. Ive seen him at times do something to create space. I want to see more of that. Right now its about once a game, twice if we are lucky. He has great potential,we need him to take more chances NOW.
Sanchez I love.He is cool and calm. Passes the ball around like velvet. Tackles are sure. Captain and Legend in his future.
Aurier just needs to calm down. If Winks needs to create, then Aurier needs to not create and just go back to basics.
I hope we dont do to Davies what we did to Wimmer. He deserves some more time in top spot on the left.
Gazzinger is great. Pushing away the misjudgement early he knows who he is and what he can do and he did it

A word about Jan. Jan looks like he is enjoying his footie again. He did have a negative edge for a long time and looked frustrated. He is probably playing now as good as he ever has

      • Harry Hotspur November 6, 2017 at 12:11 pm

        It’s a pity he’s 47 years old.

    • Yiddo November 6, 2017 at 12:00 pm

Well said. The one thing I’d argue with, is your view on Eriksen.
He had a relatively shoddy game yesterday, granted. However, he does so much more than you think. Have a look at how much ground he covers. More than any one of our players, and our players run more than almost any other team in Europe. He is a tireless soldier.
The reason he thrived against Madrid and suffered yesterday is due to his playing style. He needs the other team to attempt to over power him and can in turn hurt them for their mistakes. Palace sat back and were content on giving him space. Yesterday we were dangerous only once palace threw caution to the wind.
If you want to appreciate what he does for the team, observe his movement and work ethic off the ball. He works a hell of a lot harder than Sissoko.
It’s comparable to the deluded fans who didn’t rate Modric back in the day. He is the heartbeat of our team. Without him, our system falls apart.
      Coys

      • ronwol196061 November 6, 2017 at 12:09 pm

I dont have a problem with that part of his game. I have a problem with his inability to do a couple of things against Palace that would create some tangible stuff like goals. He is an excellent goalscorer and has creative talent so I expect him to make a few things happen when we need it.
In the Real Madrid game you are right they afforded us the room to manouver but its in these type games yesterday that we constantly have a problem. If we can do it from the press or from the counter then someone has to unlock the door. Who else can do it???
Eriksen has the talent but doesnt put his name on enough of these type of games especially if they get a bit niggly.

      • ronwol196061 November 6, 2017 at 12:16 pm

Dele is a great talent and when he gets positive is a great source of quality for us. When he isnt,he is just a punk. He didnt play yesterday but we need this level of player and Eriksen to come through. Just filling and cutting of the alleys is great but ts not enough )IM talking about Eriksen) when we play teams like Crystal Palace. We need to find ways to attack the goal. If it doesnt happen from the wing it obviously has to from inside. Even the injured Kane came back to AM position to create something. Maybe Eriksen wasnt missing from action but he was missing for the action we need in these cases.

        • Yiddo November 6, 2017 at 12:42 pm

No arguments there. Sissoko is a dud but otherwise we are in agreement.
Side point, I’m not on the blog as much as others but are you always so eloquent Ronny? What happened to Ronglish?!

  • Camus November 6, 2017 at 11:44 am

Allardyce new favourite to join the Toffees.
Crikey, it’s just the same old managerial merry-go-round isn’t it?
Roberto Martinez to pop up at Watford within a year…

    • Still Nil Nil November 6, 2017 at 11:51 am

I nearly ran Martinez over yesterday as he crossed on a red man signal naughty boy!
Nice bloke as I spoke briefly thru the open window with him

      • Camus November 6, 2017 at 11:52 am

        Ha, that’s an interesting one!

        • Still Nil Nil November 6, 2017 at 11:55 am

Probably checking on dembele hence his attendance plus watching verts improve like a fine wine

      • ronwol196061 November 6, 2017 at 11:55 am

I always liked Martinez. He is a good bloke. No wonder Still you connected with him

  • SpurAndy 🍒π November 6, 2017 at 11:43 am

Not that surprised by the performance, given the previous match. It often happens to a team that hit a peak the previous match and don’t quite have the DNA to maintain that level every time. We’re getting there and it’s our next level to step up to and I think we can do it. What we are doing, which we didn’t used to do is secure the points and with a 3rd choice keeper that is more than acceptable for me on this occasion.

  • witTank November 6, 2017 at 11:36 am

Does anybody know when the FA have to be informed as to where we are playing next year?
Ive heard its in December but dont know the the source

    • Spurs est_1882 November 6, 2017 at 11:41 am

I know we didn’t inform them about Wembley until April – so I would assume we have until then. Plus I think it would take something drastic to not play at new stadium, it will be ready enough to host games, even with a reduced crown.

      • witTank November 6, 2017 at 11:53 am

I think it will be a minor miracle if they complete on time. Im sure the build will complete (stadium, roof, pitch) but its the fittings that will take the time.
I paid a visit 2 weeks ago & they are moving at hell of a rate so fingers crossed.

    • ronwol196061 November 6, 2017 at 11:49 am

      Burkino Faso

      • Still Nil Nil November 6, 2017 at 11:55 am

        You got Tourette’s ron?

  • Camus November 6, 2017 at 11:33 am

    Bilic sacked.
The only remotely likeable thing about that club gone.
Let’s hope Moyes is the Chuckle Brothers choice and that relegation beckons…

    • Spurs est_1882 November 6, 2017 at 11:36 am

I agree – I liked bilic, and still think he is a good manager. His issue at West Ham was all around who they bought, and how much they paid. It was quite clear they would rather brag about outspending us than build a squad that could play.

    • Ronan November 6, 2017 at 11:43 am

Even by chuckle bros standards (Avram Grant,Glenn Roeder) that would be an extraordinary appointment. They will be virtually nailed on to go through the trap door.

      • Camus November 6, 2017 at 11:46 am

        Fingers crossed, eh?

        • Ronan November 6, 2017 at 11:48 am

There’ll be more white seats next season than for a county game at the oval.

Not without taking my leggings off…

  • DAVID November 6, 2017 at 11:08 am

Weak performance but we won, not jumping for joy but it’s a game we would have drawn or lost in previous seasons.

  • Gus November 6, 2017 at 11:00 am

Hopefully Del boy Winks and Kane are ruled out of the England squad, they could do with a rest

  • Gus November 6, 2017 at 10:58 am

We escape from the palace game with the chockies, we could have easily lost so fanks for the three points Woy

  • caveman November 6, 2017 at 10:58 am

after an Aurier blunder. This guy reckons Barca wanted to sign him last summer, maybe we could convince to give us our money back and dispatch him in January ?

    • Harry Hotspur November 6, 2017 at 11:12 am

Wow. Let me remind you of this next time ask for No’Cluedo or the next Clinton Cards to be given ‘ run out’…

    • Spurs est_1882 November 6, 2017 at 11:39 am

I am not the biggest fan of Aurier, and was quite vocal in the summer about thinking he was a bad purchase (all the raw materials to be great, wrong brain). Since he joined, I still think his head is all wrong, makes very bad decisions at times, but I do think getting a reality check of being back up to Trippier may snap him out of it.

      • Ronan November 6, 2017 at 12:06 pm

I’m sure he’ll improve once Poch works his magic on him.

  • YidInExile November 6, 2017 at 10:55 am
