Our thanks to @BarcelonaSpurs for keeping the fans up to date with the breaking news from Mauricio Pochettino’s book launch in Barcelona today that began just about half an hour ago.

Poch’s pursuit of £6 book sales has proved timely in getting some reaction insights from the current Tottenham gaffer.

Spanish interviewer: Is it true you have a release clause or agreement to speak with Madrid?

Poch: No it’s not

Was just asked again about agreement to speak to Madrid in contract. “Neither written not verbal. I’ve just renewed (my contract) with Tottenham and I am happy.”

When asked about how Levy might react if he leaves: “Careful. Levy can bite!”

Poch: It would be disrespectful to Levy for me to force a move to Madrid.

So on balance, there’s some good, some very good and some ugly.

There is no clause – as this blog has been labouring the point long before today.

However the line about being not being ‘disrespectful’ by forcing a move is some hell of a distance away from a polite ‘no thank you’, in fact it is either the sum of all fears or the Pochmeister is still having keep the Bald One on his toes.

If anything significant emerges – there will be updates.

I’de imagine sarri would’v been or should be madrids 1st choice.

  • TopOfThePochs June 1, 2018 at 12:33 pm

In case he’s ‘not being clear’

    “I have a five-year commitment to Tottenham.

“And my commitment is the maximum.”

Pochettino also added: “I have just renewed [my contract] with Tottenham and I am very happy, and I am happy that people at Tottenham are happy with me.

“I am not going to talk about hypotheticals.”

    and…

“The link now with Madrid is normal and I take it with all normality. I’m committed to Spurs and still have a long contract with them I just signed”

“I’m happy where I am, and to be here talking about this book.”

“We’re a great group of people. The technical staff, the board and the players we all believe in this project.

“We want to make the new stadium a reference in football. And we see people want to be part of this special project.

“I am very happy to be at Tottenham. Let’s enjoy this moment now and in the future see what happens.”

Pochettino’s response to Sky Sports reporter, when asked if it would be impossible to turn down Real Madrid: “maybe for you, but not for me.”

I love him for saying that. That’s exactly the sort of thing these journos need to hear sometimes.
“Perez approached me and when they do you ‘have to listen’ but what with him being a c*** and his club being a ridiculous joke, I told him to shove it up his arse.”

  • intheno June 1, 2018 at 12:21 pm

“If Real Madrid call, you have to listen”

How many times have we heard words like this from players or managers just before the inevitable?

Rarely though from a man who has just signed a new 5 year contract. Living in the present is one thing, but a complete lack of foresight is a worrying trait for a top-level coach.

I’m starting to sway with the pessimism on this one. He’ll be gone within days if Levy can do a deal with Napoli for Sarri.

It would be nice if we could get Bale back as part of the deal.

    • TopOfThePochs June 1, 2018 at 12:31 pm

well if you’re just going to take PART of a quote then you can garner what you like from it. He went on to say that it doesn’t apply to him as he’s signed a contract and is happy at Spurs.

      also….

      Mate, you’re posting guano.

Kindly fuck off with the partial quotes and take your get Bale back as part of the deal shite to Vital or somewhere.

All the reports, going back months, have suggested Poch is RM’s first choice to replace Zidane. Guillem Ballegue has said he is their first, second, third and fourth choice. And Poch has said nothing to suggest he won’t take the RM job if offered it.

  • East Stand June 1, 2018 at 12:09 pm

I’m not sure why everyone assumes that Poch would be first choice for Madrid anyway. On what basis given the other more achievable candidates out there, with better C.Vs?

    • Billythekid June 1, 2018 at 12:10 pm

      Spot on mate.

      • East Stand June 1, 2018 at 12:14 pm

One minute Poch is a serial loser and the next Real Madrid are going all out to get him? There are proven winners out there that haven’t just signed new deals with their clubs.

        People are talking bollocks..

        • TopOfThePochs June 1, 2018 at 12:20 pm

He was off to Man Utd abut 6 weeks ago too.
When we went out the F.A cup he was next to useless and a bottler.
The media are at least consistent in their bollocks.

        • Billythekid June 1, 2018 at 12:26 pm

Sounds like that to me. If he does leave we just need to get on with it.

  • Billythekid June 1, 2018 at 12:09 pm

Wenger turned them down multiple times he was offered the job though Poch has not been. Just a load of media farts, and fan panic. If he goes he goes, deal with it. Bale went off to Real feck me end of the fekin world that was, what hapened? We got better after wasting all the money we got from Bale.

    • East Stand June 1, 2018 at 12:11 pm

      Because of Poch…

      • Billythekid June 1, 2018 at 12:27 pm

Partly, the squad in terms of quality was already there. He does have his limits, they all do

  • TopOfThePochs June 1, 2018 at 12:04 pm

Real would have been well aware of Zidanes likelihood to be leaving this summer.
After the mixed season he had pre-CL win and his well known problems with the bard there.
So what makes anyone think Real wouldn’t have looked at options and sounded out people before Zidanes official departure?

    • Thepin June 1, 2018 at 12:05 pm

Is Shakespeare on the Real board?

      • TopOfThePochs June 1, 2018 at 12:06 pm

        Touche!

    • East Stand June 1, 2018 at 12:07 pm

Exactly my point, if they’d have approached Poch a few months ago he wouldn’t have signed a new Spurs deal surely?

      • TopOfThePochs June 1, 2018 at 12:12 pm

Theres always a chance they’ll go all out for him and he’ll go.

However. is Poch REALLY what Real want or need?
No track record of winning, no top level experience, known for developing youth etc.

I can’t see it at this stage. BIG risk on his part career wise.

Im pretty sure Levy would’ve been aware of any overtures toward Poch from Real before he offered him his new deal and made a fanfare of it all.

What is good about this is that he will be able to talk to Levy and show them that he needs to match his ambition, even more so than before last week.

        • East Stand June 1, 2018 at 12:16 pm

Risk for Madrid (an expensive one) and a risk for Poch’s growing career at this stage. Makes no sense.

          • TopOfThePochs June 1, 2018 at 12:24 pm

Not so much for Madrid as they’ll bin any manager in a heartbeat if they’re not challenging Barca for the title this year.

After a club Legend like Zidane who had just done the CL treble, that is a big act to follow with a squad that has more than its fair share of problems to sort out – one of which is a past his best Ronaldo running the dressing room and clinging to his contract.

          • marsinho June 1, 2018 at 12:45 pm

Poch’s good at building and working with young raw talents but can he go to next stage and manage world class stars and big egos, IMHO he signed a new contract and will stay see through, he’s knows he’s not ready for them.

  • Thepin June 1, 2018 at 12:03 pm

It’s all kicking off, more nonsense, this time from the Telegraph website:

The Argentine flew into Spain for a book launch today where he was asked about replacing Zinedine Zidane.
Pochettino responded: ““When Real Madrid call you, you have to listen to them. Although in this case it doesn’t depend on me. I have just signed a long contract with Tottenham and I am very happy here.
“I am happy at Tottenham because they let me work and we are growing together. Right now I want to focus on planning for next season and keep out of all the things that are being said. There will be lots of rumours, lots of things said, but I have no news from Real Madrid.
“I’m working very comfortably at Tottenham and it’s my obligation to focus on that. I do not want, nor can I, comment on Zidane going but what he has done is undoubtedly very big: no one has won three Champions Leagues in a row recently.”

    • East Stand June 1, 2018 at 12:05 pm

Sounds like he’s being respectful towards both Madrid and Spurs and there’s nothing doing…

  • Thepin June 1, 2018 at 11:59 am

Football Italia quoting Gazetta de la sport, quoting Calcio Napoli24, quoting Daniel Levy..etc. etc. …
“Interest in Sarri? I don’t want to issue any statements on this, neither do I want to confirm or deny anything,” he told CalcioNapoli24.

  • Legoverlass June 1, 2018 at 11:53 am

Has Pooch got the gonads to step into the RN melting pot. I don’t think he has the history of winning needed to deal with a squad made up of serial winners. Can you imagine him trying to persuade Modric to pass backwards and sideways all the time because possession stats are everything and Modric responds by saying “and what have you won exactly in your career to date” Pooch looked decidedly uncomfortable at the end of last season as the press stated asking the question can he actually win anything. He called Levy out to secure another 5 year contract and another “project” that he and Levy can hide behind,His comments about sustainability after he had signed his deal became a lot less bullish than the be brave comments he uttered before he was offered a new contract. The fact that once again we are doing sweet fa regarding team transfers whilst our major competitors are already busy building for next season says its business as usual with Levy. Levy will hide behind the Workd Cuo as an excuse and let the dust settle whilst he focus’s on the more important issues of craft beer sales….

    • caveman June 1, 2018 at 11:56 am

100% right. Levy’s not going to change his ways now he has Poch hooked again.

  • Flynnbob June 1, 2018 at 11:52 am

I’m goner go out on a limb and say it’s one of

    Blanc

    • Thepin June 1, 2018 at 11:54 am

      No Robbie Martinez?

    • East Stand June 1, 2018 at 12:00 pm

I’m going Conte, he’s leaving Chavs and is perfect for what they do. Similar to Chavs, lots of highly paid players etc.

Also Conte has a bigger reputation than Poch in Europe, Conte has won the league here and has been successful wherever he’s been.

They will see Poch as a good young manager doing a certain thing at Spurs and finishing 3rd.

Conte or Lowe would fit the bill better…

  • caveman June 1, 2018 at 11:46 am

What about the 14 day cooling off period on Pochottino’s contract?

    • Thepin June 1, 2018 at 11:47 am

Levy? Cooling off period? This ain’t broadband😜

    • Flynnbob June 1, 2018 at 11:49 am

As it’s a contract extension there would be no cooling off period 😂

    • East Stand June 1, 2018 at 11:53 am

This is football management not a mobile phone contract!

    • TopOfThePochs June 1, 2018 at 11:58 am

    • Billythekid June 1, 2018 at 12:03 pm

Did he buy a fridge from Levy on HP as well? Bloody Levy

  • Thepin June 1, 2018 at 11:45 am

Unay Emery just signed on as Arse manager a couple of weeks ago. How come’s he ain’t favourite?

  • TopOfThePochs June 1, 2018 at 11:45 am

He’s said he’s happy at Spurs and just signed a contract.
Of course the media will only focus on the bits that can be twisted o imply he’s definitely off.

He may well end up there – lets not kid ourselves this is Real Madrid.

However we can only go on facts.

He’s stated he’s signed a new contract and he’s happy.

He DID sign said contract with his statement last week.

Before signing said contract Poch would have:
    1. Looked at, negotiated and considered the terms at Spurs before tying himself to Tottenham.

    2. If anyone thinks he wouldn’t have been informed or enquired about Madrid with all the recent rumours then they’re being very naive.
He would’ve looked at the alternative and possibilities or other employment before putting pen to paper.
Zidane leaving his post would not have been such a big surprise to those on the inside.

It now depends on how much Madrid want Poch and how persuasive they can be.

However would Poch want to follow a 3 times Champions League winner into a job known for axing manager on a whim should they not deliver immediately?
Is he ready for this job? Would he risk his reputation at this stage?

One things for sure, the one god thing from todays media frenzy to hoist him out of Spurs is that he now well and truly has Daniel by the nether regions when it comes to transfers.

    What a bargaining chip.

  • Flynnbob June 1, 2018 at 11:41 am

If Madrid want him, he will eventually go.we just have to pray they have other priorities.

    • TopOfThePochs June 1, 2018 at 11:47 am

Poch hasn’t won anything to date and is unproven at managing the big names and top level.

Liverpool have a manager who’s won big pots and has just reached the Champins League final.

Loops credentials FAR outweigh Poch for such a job.

However Liverpool are darlings of the British Media and we all know the historic anti-spurs feeling.

      • East Stand June 1, 2018 at 12:10 pm

        This.

        • TopOfThePochs June 1, 2018 at 12:14 pm

          Klopps not Loops though

  • Erik June 1, 2018 at 11:39 am

He’s gone FFS, you know how this works, who ever turns Real Madrid down?

    • East Stand June 1, 2018 at 11:42 am

To turn them down he needs to be approached and Spurs approached and his week old contract mean nothing.

Come back and embarrass yourself again when someone else gets the Madrid job…

      • Erik June 1, 2018 at 11:43 am

        Grow up.

        • East Stand June 1, 2018 at 11:46 am

Come back when someone else is Real manager and tell me to grow up.

You read a story and believe it and you’re telling me to grow up?

          • Erik June 1, 2018 at 11:49 am

Do you think i want this to happen; i live in the real world?

              • Erik June 1, 2018 at 11:55 am

EVERYONE, PLEASE SHUT THE FUCK UP…

  • Elevenstonedidiots June 1, 2018 at 11:39 am

Once RM start the love bombing it will be too hard for Poch to turn them down. Ronaldo will most likely be put out to pasture so Poch won’t have to deal with his preening either.

  • Al June 1, 2018 at 11:37 am

Christ he’s come in to 2-1 best odds since this morning.

    • melcyid June 1, 2018 at 1:41 pm

bet you get better odds on him not going then

  • Al June 1, 2018 at 11:31 am

I’m hoping that final quote is him manouevering Levy/leaving the door open for next time. I’m going 90% it’s that.

Oh how I’ll crumble if we get a “sources understand he’s told Levy he wants out”.

    • East Stand June 1, 2018 at 11:38 am

I wouldn’t because “sources” generally read the same as “sauces” to me, that’s how reliable they are…

    • Thepin June 1, 2018 at 11:38 am

As he says, be careful, Levy bites.
It’s like telling your Missus that you sort of fancy your neighbours wife, but don’t worry nothing will happen – don’t be surprised if you still wake up in the middle of the night with your penis in pickle jar. Don’t forget Redknapp and his flirting with the England job after the club stood by him through his tax fraud case.

  • Al June 1, 2018 at 11:29 am

    It’s never easy is it.

I still think (hope?) Poch is smart enough to think he should take us a little further before joining the Real circus (assuming Levy has promised him what he needs). If he goes there now and it doesn’t work out he’s back to square one in a season. If he stays with us a little more, Madrid will come up again within three years which is probably how much longer he sees himself with us anyway. Hell, this could work out for the best for us (as fans)… maybe Poch will use this to force Levy’s scheming hand into keeping his promises for once. Maybe he’ll be forced to make a big signing in the next week or so, maybe this is the arse kick he needs.

Please let it be that. I can’t face us back to square one so soon.

    • East Stand June 1, 2018 at 11:45 am

Him saying “careful Levy bites” is a warning to the interviewer that he might be contacted by lawyers unless he stops being a dickhead…

  • East Stand June 1, 2018 at 11:29 am

I’m not sure Poch is their top target anyway.

What has he proven he’s good at? Developing young players, not overseeing a multi billion pound spend up with a team of seasoned internationals.

Did the board at Real just sack Zidane with no plan? If they wanted Poch they would have contacted our Spanish boss and his staff before they signed a new deal at Spurs. Which would have made it harder for them to go to Madrid anyway.

Besides, Poch isn’t stupid and knows the rate Madrid go through managers.

8.5m a year at Spurs with bonuses over 5 years and possible increase or 15m a year from Madrid but over 2 seasons max as they boot him out for not winning everything?

Madrid isn’t his environment at the moment and at 46 he has plenty of time to grow his reputation further.

Nothing is impossible but I cannot see Poch going there this summer, not a chance… there is nothing in this.

    • Thepin June 1, 2018 at 11:34 am

All good East, but hasn’t Zizou just walked out on them, leaving them up shit creak, or have I read the situation incorrectly?

    • Flynnbob June 1, 2018 at 11:35 am

Zidane walked catching them by surprise he wasn’t sacked. But there where rumors in the season that he could be sacked, so makes sense they have a short list at hand .

      • East Stand June 1, 2018 at 11:51 am

They have parted ways, Zidane is a club legend who has just won the Champions League. They are hardly going to ‘sack’ him is as many words are they?

The relationship between him and Madrids owners has been on the wane for some time. He was leaving this summer regardless of how the season went.

Which begs the question, why haven’t they contacted Poch yet and why had Poch just signed a contract extension at Spurs?

        Nobody is making sense…

  • Organicpaper June 1, 2018 at 11:24 am

Id love it if they nab Klopp and Salah now.

  • Flynnbob June 1, 2018 at 11:23 am

If Poch is in Spain then this will all be sorted or disproved quite quickly.Perez won’t hold back if Poch is his first choice.what bothers me more is that Perez might play a blinder and hire Poch to get hold of Kane .

    • Thepin June 1, 2018 at 11:27 am

Levy would do a Kaiser Soze, and shoot his own family, rather than let them take Poch AND Kane!

      Unless the money was right.

      • Flynnbob June 1, 2018 at 11:33 am

You nailed it with the last point. With levy there is always a price that’s right for him.

  • Cabspur June 1, 2018 at 11:21 am

Im fairly happy with that , always a fecking drama being a spurs fan, piss myself if they get klopp.

    • Thepin June 1, 2018 at 11:24 am

If you start that rumour, and let’s throw in Salah for good measure, lump on Klopp/Mo to RM, then lay off when he becomes favourite – Jackpot!

  • Organicpaper June 1, 2018 at 11:21 am

Another quote in the Mirror on the same subject

“I live in the present, there is nothing more important than that. I enjoy what is happening and what has to be will be. Jorge Griffa once told me that I must let football take me, that I do not want to change my destiny.”

    • Organicpaper June 1, 2018 at 11:34 am

For context Griffa was a Atletico Madrid legend 🙂

  • intheno June 1, 2018 at 11:18 am

Great publicity for Poch’s book launch.

He’s hardly likely to rock-up in Spain only to tell half the punters that he wouldn’t want to coach their club.

Over to Levy now to come out swinging chainsaws at any mention from Perez that the thought of poaching Poch has crossed his mind.

  • gloster1861 June 1, 2018 at 11:17 am

The PM of Spain Mariano Rajoy has lost his position after a vote of no confidence.

Mauricio Pochettino is the favourite to succeed him …

    😂😂😂😂😂

    • Billythekid June 1, 2018 at 11:22 am

Ha ha ha but is he pro or anti EU?

  • East Stand June 1, 2018 at 11:16 am

Whatever he says can be spun as “oh, what exactly does he mean by that”.

He has said he just signed a new deal at Spurs (last week!) and that he’s happy.

He’sbeen quoted as saying it would be “disrespectful” to force a move but the actual question that triggered to that sentence is nowhere to be seen.

There is no context with which to work with, however when asked about a release clause it’s a straightforward question and answer typed out in black and white. Why not with the “disrespectful” quote?

Because this is the usual mischief that goes on at a time like this…

    • gloster1861 June 1, 2018 at 11:20 am

      Correct.

Short of him saying “Real Madrid is a dog of a club and they can kiss my hairy arse”, there is nothing he can say to persuade the rabid media that he isn’t leaving.

      • East Stand June 1, 2018 at 11:30 am

That’s about the size of it Glost.

  • Organicpaper June 1, 2018 at 11:15 am

Brilliant to see some direct quotes on the matter.
Im satisfied, he aint going anywhere

    • intheno June 1, 2018 at 11:22 am

Me too. If Poch wanted to go to RM, he would’ve just refused to comment about it.

      • East Stand June 1, 2018 at 11:30 am

        Good point.

  • gloster1861 June 1, 2018 at 11:14 am

Surely the last thing the Bald Avenger needs on top of finishing the stadium is recruiting another manager in short order?

Although Fat Sam is available. 😣

    • Organicpaper June 1, 2018 at 11:27 am

He backs himself too… quote from 2010..
“I’m not suited to Bolton or Blackburn, I would be more suited to Internazionale or Real Madrid,” said Allardyce. “It wouldn’t be a problem to me to go and manage those clubs because I would win the Double or the league every time.

      whata prat

He’s sending Real Madrid the signal.

      Is he fuck…

        Okay

        • East Stand June 1, 2018 at 11:36 am

So Real Madrid have been looking to move Zidane on all year and their search for a replacement strategy is to wait for smoke signals from a manager of another big club that signed a new contract last week?

Conte looks nailed on to leave Chavs and all the talk is about Poch? Why did Poch sign a new deal if he wanted to go to Madrid?

Use your grey matter old bean…

    That’s left pretty open then.
Doesn’t want to force a move but if they come in offering to buy his contract out, well… “It’s out of my hands, Boss…”

In what context did he say “disrespectful” Camus? Nobody knows… what was it in response to?

The contract question and answer in full but nothing but a few words from that bit. Funny that…

Are there any realistic signings we could actually make at the moment?

    • gloster1861 June 1, 2018 at 11:10 am

Emre Can. He’s leaving Pooh on a free transfer and may be headed for Juve, but surely this is a Levy wet dream player? A much needed central/defensive midfielder with lots of PL experience and at 24 years old plenty of resale potential in three years time would repay his wages. In effect this guy is a freebie!

      • Billythekid June 1, 2018 at 11:12 am

That would be a good deal, good player too

Ah.. the first “there are no players out there who spurs could sign” of summer.

        Someone has to do it
