Is Poch going throw the FA Cup? This is a rather crude way of addressing the gaffer’s plan to ‘rotate’, but if the net result is the same…
We have rotated and thrown numerous domestic cup games under Mauricio already. So this smells bad too.
Poch said: “You can not say we don’t take it seriously because we rotate. Tomorrow we are going to play and it’s Tottenham that play and we must win. The competition is so important like Premier League or Champions League.”
This is a fundamentally dishonest statement. He’s simultaneously saying that he wants to field players who haven’t been good enough for the Premier League and the Champions League, in order to compete in the FA Cup… which is as important as those competitions.
When asked if he felt pressure to win a trophy, he denied it #calm.
“Of course our intention and desire is to win, but I am not obsessed to win. We want to win but we need to create a strong team with a strong mentality, winning mentality but not only the players – around the team – for that you need time and you never know.”
Wow. Not obsessed with winning a trophy. This is new level of expectation management, eh? Mind you, not a patch on what then followed…
“One year, two year, five years. I know we are in a good way waiting for a new stadium which will be an amazing for us, for the fans, for the club, for everything. Tottenham in the next few years if we continue like this will be one of the contenders to win trophies.”
So lap up the cosmetics and if anyone has the audacity to question when the trophy cabinet is going to be bothered – the stock answer is that we’re building something rather special.
This is garbage!
In 5 years time none of this current squad that are worth a damn will still be on our books.
Those that have ambition (like Kyle Walker and Danny Rose) will have flown the coop, and only the journeymen junk that nobody else wanted will remain.
Add to this that there will be no money for upgrading the squad for perhaps 5 years or more unless players are sold to facilitate it.
If Spurs win anything under Poch in the next 5 years then it will be because we lucked it.
This isn’t a strategy for anything other than a slow burn investment success – as I’ve been telling you for sometime now…
